I might have completed a dozen iterations of this using different IP addresses and slight variations in the responses. I don't think that any of them are what either Northumbria Police or Sunderland University expected.

Is it not age discrimination for the police to only survey opinions of a select range of people on a matter that is universal?

I decided that I identify as 25. If you can be trans gender then surely you can be trans age.

Why is the Uni?

Basic data collection and designer bias should be taught to anybody who is doing reserch under the Uni brand.

If its supervised or under oversight the staff involved are either unqualified and cant see the bias or see a problem and allow it to run.

If they were really interested in young people’s understanding of the SC ruling they should start with their own researchers who seem not to understand how rulings work and that there has been no new law. Plus a short course on ‘bias’ though I expect the survey is already the result of someone who has undergone ‘unconscious bias and micro aggression’ training.

Good to know there’s no actual crime being committed in Northumbria, so police have nothing better to do than ask people pointless questions.

If the police commissioned a body of work and it points out problems which come to pass the Force have to take ownership of the fact that the most senior members of staff were on notice.

Association of name and acting as an "commissioning agent" is one thing all the business I have worked at are very clear about. Its basic brand protection. If your role lacks the authority you must make that clear and get signoff from the appropiate level of management.

I'm imagining a class of undergraduates 'working' with Northumbria Police in the sense that somebody from Northumbria police gives a talk on how sociology impacts police work, and then the students go off and do their course work coming up with surveys on various subjects, and Northumbria Police politely tells them its all very helpful and throws it all in the bin.

If the Northumbria Police did not action/commission the work first IMO that should be a serious breach of ethic and a serious fine attaching Data Processing breach for the Uni.

It would be a Data Processing breach as the data subject is being lied to from the start as an inducement to provide data.

I completed that - and had a lot of fun in the process.

I've FOI'd Northumbria Police about this.

I wonder if they will just get rid of all the ‘wrong’ answers…

And we all know how obsessive and how much time on their hands those who lie about their sex have.

It is the very definition of a pointless exercise which is not going to resolve anything, nor indeed provide any reliable or useful information.

The academics behind this are known to be pro trans stuff. There’s also other well known tra academics at the university.

Have Northumbria Police just been roped in as a practical real world example to help undergraduates learn how to do research?

Survey bias in design which will prompt a biased answer

When one is collecting personal data on a sensitive subject and one firstly directs the subject to an organisation
• which had a masssssive ongoing data breach
• who threatened the people who told them they found the breack and
• who had issued 2 board level statements designed to lie to the public

Musing on this, I wonder if a gender fluid attention seeker person can access the opinions of their boy mode when they are in girl mode and vice versa. Or do they have the same opinions in both modes? Or an infinite number of opinions for an infinite number of modes? Or maybe they don't know, because as soon as they switch modes the previous set of opinions are forgotten.
I feel that we need more research in this field.
