Feminism: Sex and gender discussions
lcakethereforeIam · 20/01/2026 19:11

I'm wreathed in smiles. Appalling she was put through this.

AreYouSureAskedNaomi · 20/01/2026 19:06

While it's important to defend our right to hold gender critical beliefs, to me this case is significant because of something else - the need (the right) to correctly sex a patient.

In some cases a patient's sex is irrelevant. In other cases it's crucial. The priority of staff is to care for patients and HC workers shouldn't fear repercussions of correctly sexing patients when it matters.

Jennifer was doing her job. If my memory serves me, the patient was in hospital because of a urine infection. The infection must have been serious for a dangerous prisoner to have to be taken to hospital. My understanding is that Jennifer was on the phone to a doctor, explaining the situation, and describing the patient as "he". In this case it was essential for the patient's care that all staff be clear about his sex. This is part of what makes this case egregious.

In a normal world Jennifer's union would have been all over this case like a rash - not only because of the above but because she was racially abused, all while dealing with a violent pedophile FGS

They talked about her daughter losing her job as a result of everything, I had no idea!

JazzyBBBG · 20/01/2026 19:02

Brilliant news that poor woman should have have gone through this.

Daleksatemyshed · 20/01/2026 19:02

Well done Jennifer, hopefully this will start to nip this nonsense in the bud

FranticFrankie · 20/01/2026 18:58

Two years of horrible unnecessary stress though
She looks thrilled- good on you Jennifer 👏

solerolover · 20/01/2026 18:57

I'm so thrilled for Jennifer. The process is the punishment though, and it should never have got to this stage, almost two years later. I'm hoping that her upcoming employment tribunal claim will be successful too.

Helleofabore · 20/01/2026 18:52

Thank goodness.

However, I look forward to her ET for their treatment of her.

CarefulN0w · 20/01/2026 18:51

Oh thank goodness for that.

What she has had to go through to get to this point though is absolutely criminal.

impossibletoday · 20/01/2026 18:51

.

Jennifer Melle charges dismissed!!!
Chariothorses · 20/01/2026 18:39

This is a win for Jennifer, thankfully- but what a lot of stress -and money wasted for NHS too. And none of the NHS managers will face sanctions. They never do.

We need NHS staff to be able to correctly sex patients- so that they can ensure vulnerable people (including men who lie they are women) get the right surgery (as this nurse allegedly was trying to arrange on the phone when the male patient started verbally abusing her).

NHS staff also need to know their own sex so they respect patients and don;'t assault female patients (unlike a certain Dr in Scotland who said in a recent female nurse tribunal he is a biological female and would treat unconsenting female patients who requested female only care, as far as memory recalls...)

ERthree · 20/01/2026 18:37

Best news of the year so far.

Ah, just found the answer to my own question
"The nurse is now taking the NHS to tribunal, claiming it has unlawfully interfered with her right to hold gender-critical views under the European Convention on Human Rights to freedom of thought, conscience and religion. The case will open in Croydon on April 13."

Excellent! Dismissing a disciplinary case that should never have started does not take away the anxiety of almost two years.

The managers that made these idiotic decisions must still be held to account for them.

Marylou2 · 20/01/2026 18:30

Incredible news. shouldn't have happened to her in the first place but i hope she sleeps easy tonight

PassTheHanky · 20/01/2026 18:27

Great news

SternJoyousBeev2 · 20/01/2026 18:26

Great news!

unfortunately I have no confidence that this decision would have been taken if it were not for the publicity from Jennifer speaking to the media.

Shedmistress · 20/01/2026 18:24

I mean, surely the NHS are beginning to realise it is utterly batshit to keep on with this. But thank goodness she got the word out or we would never have even known about it.

Well done that woman.

SirChenjins · 20/01/2026 18:23

Excellent news! What a relief this must be for her, but fucking ridiculous that it even got to this stage - it should never have been allowed to.

FallenSloppyDead2 · 20/01/2026 18:22

Well done Jennifer. You are exactly the kind of nurse I would want for myself and my loved ones. I hope you continue your successful career without any further harassment from an NHS Trust that really doesn't deserve you.

ProfessorRedshoeblueshoe · 20/01/2026 18:22

Good news, but she should never have been put though it.

PassTheHanky · 20/01/2026 18:21

So the NHS has dropped their disciplinary action against Jennifer but surely the NHS can't spend years putting Jennifer through a punishing Disciplinary process just to say "no case to answer, you can go back to work now".
I thought Jennifer (supported by Christian Concern) took out a case against the NHS for their appalling treatment of her.
I checked the Christian Concern website but can't see if that's still going ahead. Does anyone know?

Veilsofmorning · 20/01/2026 18:19

So pleased for her

weegielass · 20/01/2026 18:17

This only strengthens her case I think if the trust realise they fked up

MrsOvertonsWindow · 20/01/2026 18:17

As ever, the process is the punishment.
So pleased for her.
