Brilliant news!

Victory for Darlington nurses as Judge rules policy that allows men into women’s changing rooms is unlawful harassment and discrimination - Christian Concern

In a landmark judgment, an Employment Tribunal has ruled that County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust unlawfully discriminated against and harassed the female nurses by requiring them to share female-only changing rooms with a biological male...

The trust said: “We are taking time to review the judgment carefully and will comment further once we have had the opportunity to consider it in full.”
Imagine this response by a guilty party in any other case. "Now I have been found guilty of assault/tax evasion/ murder i shall consider my position on this"
How is this acceptable as a response?

Isn't it great. Shame a chance to celebrate is being derailed but twas ever thus.

Hearing the BBC reporting the outcome fairly accurately and allowing the nurses to openly speak about the gaslighting their employers indulged in was a revelation.

The poor old translucent mob doing our work for us of with their contributions all over the place demonstrating precisely why women don't want them in our single sex spaces.

Well the BBC reported it and then still went on about trans rights, not mentioning women’s rights once. Fairness, my arse.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 17/01/2026 03:14

It helps them maintain the fantasy that only a tiny minority of bitter, hateful “terfs” don’t want to change in front of them.

According to the Grauniad, 77,000 transmaidens signed a petition or open letter in support of the "trans community", with a spokesperson (male or female, I wonder?) saying "it is crucial to note that not all women feel trans people should be excluded from gendered spaces". Archived version, to keep your IP address and referrer header data out of the mucky paws of the sysadmins. Observations:

  1. This is astroturfing by the Good Laugh Project, who have their logo all over it.
  2. There's a distinct lack of concrete demands and commitments. I wonder how many of the 77,000 would sign if the text actually said "we accept bepenised people in women's spaces and services". I think women have signed that letter to "be kind" without necessarily realising that their signature is being misused by this spokesperson to claim support for penises in women's changing rooms.

Returning to the statement in the Guardian:

  1. Radical feminists aren't demanding the exclusion of trans people, but of trans-identifying males, from women's spaces.
  2. 77,000 transmaidens don't get to override the law, nor do they get to override the refusal of other women and girls. Male access to female spaces isn't determined by a majority vote, but by a blackball vote with a quorum of all the women and girls using the space and an acceptance threshold of zero.

Yes, they were wanging on about it on Reddit as if it means our objections are irrelevant.

IwantToRetire · 17/01/2026 01:28

Not sure if this has been posted.

But if not think it is interesting as it seems to shows a slightly different style of reporting by the BBC on women's rights vs trans rights!

Latest NHS trans case ruling ramps up pressure for guidance

The nurses' partial victory adds pressure on the government to publish guidance for businesses that have single-sex spaces.

Well exactly. I do not get this. WHY is it crucial that we all know that not all women mind men in the ladies? What does it matter when it can't override the law or the wishes of other women who DO mind? It's completely irrelevant what they think.

It would be marvellous if nurses all over the country left unions like Unison and RCN and joined the Darlngton Nurses Union.
The unions are one of the biggest problems atm.

And the cross-over with Labour MPs is mind boggling.

‘Got high-up trade union experience? Shafted a tonne of women on your great political journey so that a few men won’t say they feel sad? Become a Labour MP!’

And yes, I have names in mind. I think we all do. It’s a very troubling and deeply anti-socialist dialectic.

Yes my question has been answered, but the inability of so many people to not see it as a simple query , but instead insist I had some agenda is astounding.

murasaki · 16/01/2026 23:28

And especially dropped when it gets a response from @Seethlaw , as that response doesn't fit the required narrative, despite being from an actual transman.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 16/01/2026 23:28

I can’t imagine a woman who identifies as a man who had genital surgery would be keen to undress fully in front of men, either.

murasaki · 16/01/2026 23:26

The transmen gotcha is when bad faith actors introduce the idea of a transman in women's changing rooms. Expecting women to go 'oh no', leaving the transman with nowhere to go. Except most women say, fine, in the women's, as they're biologically female. So it's dropped as soon as it gets a response.

KermitTheToad · 16/01/2026 23:23

@ThatCyanCat Still no idea what a Transman Gotcha is, and less idea why 'you' can't give it a rest. I didn't ignore the answer, but I just couldn't ignore the personal attacks so kept coming back to try to understand why there was a need for such vitriol. You clearly have nothing better to do with your time.

Trans men are female and can use the female changing rooms as they have a legal right to do and as they are female they don't pose the same risk to women as males do (therefore the dont instill the same fear) As only 5% of trans men opt for phalloplasty (perfectly understandable given the complication rates and outcomes) and 2% opt for metoidioplasty, the group you refer to would be very small but perhaps a solution would be to provide a third space for those females with body modifications for the comfort of the trans men and for the comfort of women. I third gender neutral spaces for those who wish and consent to them seems a reasonable solution.

Indeed, and I suspect the transman would even be the one asking for some other place to use, before they had to change for the first time.

It's something I noticed back when I was in the community: transmen tend to be very proactive. We anticipate the potential problems and take steps to prevent them. A passing transman in such a situation would very likely want to avoid having to use the women's changing room, both (as you said) for their own and the women's comfort, and so would quietly ask right away for another arrangement to be made.

You pulled the Transman Gotcha, ignored the numerous posters who answered it, told us we didn't understand English, flounced, came back, ignored the answers again and still think you're right.

Astounding indeed.

A judgment can be a landmark judgment even if it doesn't strictly set precedent. Landmark means that it has significant impact across legal, social or political spheres or clarifies a complex area of law.

A judge saying that there is no legal scope to argue that people can access single sex spaces based on gender identity is a landmark judgment. Particularly the analysis of ECHR rights, and its application of the 1992 Regs and For Women Scotland.

This judgment will have huge practical implications for employers even though it is not binding on other tribunals.

Really interesting, thanks. I guess that’s why the Jaguar Landrover tribunal gets called a “landmark judgment” as supposedly it’s about “non binary” even though it isn’t, really.

Jesus, how many times do I have to repeat myself. I was asking if transmen would have to use female changing areas, because I thought this would distress some woman. ( I was using the example of a woman with a 'penis' to explain what could be offensive) I personally do not have, and have never had a penis, or anything pretending to be a penis

Oh, and I did answer the question at 12.32 today, and just did it again. Don't say I don't do anything for you.

Seethlaw · 16/01/2026 22:57

KermitTheToad · 16/01/2026 22:51

No, instead of answering my question you took deliberate personal stabs at me, making numerous assumptions about me and what I supposedly think. @nauticant, I was using capital letter for the posters who seem unable to read/understand lowercase.

You asked your first question on page 2. You got the answer at the top of page 3:

"They are biological women's so they use the women's. We want to keep mem out of the women's changing rooms not women."
