This is a good point. The old unions were terribly misogynistic in that women should stay at home and not take men’s jobs. Different form now, more sneakily misogynistic but still misogynistic. And you’re right that the worst of these beta males is in how they’re smug about how ‘feminist’ they are whilst happily throwing women to the bottom of the scrap heap of rights.

The 2026 classic being Polanski's announcement that any Green telling a woman they're wrong will be penalized for misogyny.
Can't wait for GC Green women to start conversations.
Pretty much everyone else around the table would be up for this charge.
How's that going to work in a party where GC members have been called bigots?

That's true, and it's why today women's rights are again secondary.
But the difference then and now is that it was the alpha men in charge who ran the class war, that generation ending with Gordon Brown, Alex Salmond and Bob Crowe.
Today we have the rise and rise of the betas, from Zack Polanski to Lloyd Moyle to Ross Greer.
Maybe even more toxic to women as they can't stop talking about misogyny and toxic masculinity while being purveyors themselves fighting for men in women's spaces.

He said: You’re inviting me to become involved in discussions of complex legal arguments which relate to convention rights.

what the fuck is wrong with male politicians? we have exactly the same response from Bundeskanzler Merz when asked about what Trump did in Venezuela "it is too complex"

if it is too complex for their tiny male brains, then politics is the wrong job for them, especially in leadership positions.

TBF the Chapels were never what you might call "at the forefront of women's rights", the old Left tended to see women's issues as very much secondary to the Revolution.

I know someone who's worked in the Labour Party and especially the SNP, as well as in the print unions in the 80s.
He tells me the progressive left are a pure echo chamber. As the economic class war was neutered by the victory of globalism and neo liberalism, all that's left is IDentarianism. Which is why the likes of the SNP have gone to the cliff edge, and then over the side, re fighting for TIM rapists in women's jails.
And will fight all day long for this cause.

You can't hang it all on Hypnotits, creep though he be. The LDs have a long history on this, Baroness Barker was all-in for the GRA, as was the late Lord Goodhart & some of the earliest adopters of genderwoo in Parliament were in the LDs. What changed was that the new membership skewed young & as the LDs have aye & ever been naive & shallow of thought, & were desperate for subs & door knockers, it never occured to the remnants of the PLDP to wonder (especially with Mark Pack weilding such power) if they had in fact espoused a progressive cause.

Post-Coalition could have been the ideal time for sober reflection on a lot of things but simply perpetuating the brand seems to have been the only priority.

Polanski infected the LDs, strangely towards the end of the coalition. Why then, precisely? An unprincipled charlatan looking for an empty vessel?

@selffellatingouroborosofhate The entryism issue pertains to the LDs too, the Coalition prompted quite the exodus & what flowed in was the predictable omnicause flotsam in search of a route to power, including a great many aproximately educated young people, their heads full of fashionable gender fluff. Corbyn inflicted a lot of the same on Labour, eg; Lily Madigan & Nadia Whittome.

Swinney is both an idiot, and ideological. A terrible combination, an enemy to all women and children.

IwantToRetire · 08/01/2026 20:11

Sorry no enough time to keep up with thread. Has this been posted?

Mr Swinney said the legal step was making sure “the rule of law is applied in all circumstances”.

It was put to Mr Swinney that school policies were changed to make it explicitly clear that children must have access to single-sex spaces based on biological step, with the First Minister asked why this could not be replicated for prisons.

He said: You’re inviting me to become involved in discussions of complex legal arguments which relate to convention rights.

“These are issues that are implicit in the consideration and application of the Supreme Court case.”

He added: “I believe fundamentally in the rule of law and I have to be sure the government is acting in a lawful fashion.”

Asked why he did not accept the ruling should have an effect in prisons, he said: “Well, because the Supreme Court ruling is, as you recognise it to be, a complex and comprehensive ruling which relates to the interaction of a whole host of different legal requirements, not least of which are convention rights.

“We as a government, all of our actions must be compatible with the European Convention of Human Rights and these are the issues that have been assessed in the court.”

He then said he would not be drawn further on the issue.

Swinney dismisses confusion over legal intervention into For Women Scotland case

John Swinney was told the intervention by SNP ministers caused confusion over For Women Scotland's Supreme Court ruling.

@1984Now it's like people don't even realise why we have separate men's and women's toilets, sports, changing rooms, prisons, board quotas, refuges, and rape crisis centres.

1984Now · 08/01/2026 19:18

SwirlyGates · 08/01/2026 19:03

Just unbelievable.

As for the future, sadly I think the SNP will win again in the next elections. They have too much support and can do what they like with impunity. Most people don't realise the extent of their gender madness, or don't care, and that includes lots of women (the "I've never seen a transwoman in my toilets and wouldn't mind if I did" brigade).

Same for the Greens. People who aren't paying attention think that a vote for the Greens is supporting the environtment.

I contribute to one or two political forums in addition to MN. And what I've realized is that we're in the minority. People don't care, or if they do, not enough.
And even if they do object, they look at you as if you're the one with the issue for being so animated about it.
Maybe the majority really don't care that much.
Leading to comments like "why are you so concerned with what's in people's pants?"

BunfightBetty · 08/01/2026 13:14

It doesn't touch the sides as a phrase!

I see Ross Greer has today refused to call rapist Adam Graham a man, and has instead been idiotic enough to repeat that the SNP believes in self-ID even for rapists.

Just unbelievable.

How little these idiots care for adult human females.

Now is the time for men and women to defend women's rights.

1984Now · 08/01/2026 18:46

Brefugee · 08/01/2026 18:34

i think when talking to politicians etc about things like this we need to use very clear language. So "so let me get this straight, you are in favour of men being in women's prisons" etc

As Ricky Gervais would say, not male or female, but that shiny new gender, rapists.
The SNP would say the prison isn't full of that fusty, dusty old gender, women, but the new one, victims of rape.
But even with the new genders, the SNP aren't arguing to seperate the genders as we do with the old fashioned ones, male and female.
No, in the brave new world of shiny new genders, the SNP aim to put the rapists gender amongst the rape victims gender.
The ultimate slap in the face
Of course, boys in school say something offensive to girls, or workmen wolf whistle passing women, now the SNP will evoke old school gender roles, bad males and put upon females.
But not in the new universe of gendered souls.

BellissimoGecko · 08/01/2026 17:37

It’s amazing that this - defending rapists and other serious criminals - is the hill they’re prepared to die on. WHY?? Why do they care so much about a rapist’s human rights? What about the rights of their victims?

Suggests that in the UK, two parties in same vicinity can't both prosper long term...SNP and Alba, Reform and Tories.
Labour and LDs kinda coexist, but less geographical overlap.
Q is, how does radicalised Polanski Greens sit alongside Lab and LDs?
Re Scottish Greens, my stomach turns when I see any of them.
Maggie Chapman is just a strange, ultimately sad individual.
Greer is almost the AI recreation of the beta male in modern politics.
Both would have no role in the modern world outside politics, maybe some activist public sector position.
But they're in politics, and for a while held the balance, were the toxic enablers to Sturgeon's brazen push to put men in women's jails.
Just as Badenoch spiked Theresa May and Penny Mordaunt attempts to lock the Tory govt into Self ID, and fate (ie GC women) will ensure Starmer cannot go in this direction himself, the movers and shakers on gender politics look more disgusting as each day goes past.

Edited

SNP and Alba might not be a good example for this because Alba only came into being because of AS' fallout with NS and the SNP. I just don't think Alba has enough viable candidates to be of any importance. I can only tell you who stood here for Alba in the last election because he's the father of someone who was at school with dd. Tbf it's hard to remember any Holyrood politician beyond Swinney, Forbes (and she is leaving) and who ever is at the centre of the weekly scandal.
Magnus Linklater wrote a comment in the Times that really resonated with me, at this point I just want a government that sorts things out rather than having grandiose visions:

Politicians are hooked on quick fixes when steady maintenance is needed

Voters disillusioned with parties constantly offering new and spectacular transformation would rather they just made things work

BezMills · 08/01/2026 15:48

Honestly when we first got the SP, I though it was brilliant we had these three maverick MSPs that didn't answer to the big party machines (Dennis Canavan, Tommy Sheridan and Robin Harper for the Greens). At that point it was all about Scottish Labour, who had this massive party structure and a huge vote share, and I used to say 'isn't it great the Tories get some consolation seats from the list, because they get absolutely pummelled on the FPTP seats, the poor wee sowels'

I've been awa for 20 years now, and as well as being massively out of touch - it's all a bit remote and academic to me as I have almost no skin in the game - I don't like to breenge about My Opinions On Scottish Politics for that reason.

Swinney and Starmer really hate the fact that 3 middle-aged women are in effect contradicting them and in a position to tell them what to do on a public stage.

That's basically the reason that the Scotish and UK Govts are refusing to implement the FWS judgement. These men are sexist and ego driven, every time you see them talking to women about this issue you can see how it irritates them to be corrected or held to account.

Despite Swinney doing VERY well from the defenestration of the woman before him as a direct result of this.
Starmer? This is a man who is really uncomfortable in the company of women, one of the beta males who now inhabit the top of left politics, only content with women if they're transmaidens.
