True believers, I think.

KnottyAuty · 28/04/2026 21:58

Why the resistance to change? Is it having to admit a mistake? Or are they true believers? What’s causing all these different organisations to blatantly ignore the rule of law? By just making shit up?

TWETMIRF · 28/04/2026 14:40

Didn't you know that you only have to comply with laws you agree with? I decided that I don't have to pay for petrol anymore as it's too expensive so sure that Shell won't mind me filling up and driving off.

They are using the incorrect, outdated Stonewall interpretation of the EA, according to them. Does that mean that they would complain, if run over by someone using the pre 1967 drink drive laws?

Can we all just claim to follow obsolete laws, now superseded, if the whim takes us?

MyAmpleSheep · 27/04/2026 20:07

The BBC article refers now to “transwomen” and not “trans women”. This is the second recent article to do so.

Is this a change of policy, that being “trans” is no longer to be viewed as the same as being “blonde” or “tall”?

Small but significant win, or an accident of poor proofing?

I wonder if women who have been to an all girls school, haven't seen misogyny at a seminal time in their social development

Edited

Of course, any girl who has been to an all girls school is still surrounded by all of the usual shit as soon as she steps out of the door.

Men used to loiter around our school yard and thrown pornographic magazines in....and masturbate in full view at break -time.

Are they thick? Do they really not understand that they cannot legally exclude men who are happy to be men from the womens pond or women who are happy to be women from the men's pond of they allow trans people to use the wrong sex pond.

I feel the answer to this may be for women to use the mens pond and then take legal action under the Equality Act when they are removed and criminal action for assault if they are manhandled or of the area.

teawamutu · 27/04/2026 19:25

Off to court we go, then. I'm ready to dig.

I went to an all girls school and found that misogyny still smacked me in the face all the time. School was a welcome respite from it

More money for the lawyers.

Hello hello hello fuck wits!!

you are proposing breaking the law

Can't say I can understand why a woman might fawn over a creepy guy who gives off weird, pervy vibes? Surely the instinctive response would be distance and caution?

I can only think of that the man is rich. Never having to worry about how to pay the next bill is something understandable.

Or power.

Waste of a kipper though. How about if we used an old insole? Still got a fish connection.

I'd be quite happy to use a chain mail gauntlet!

So, let's just suppose that we had a survey and decided that 90% of Mumsnetters would like to slap a particular politician around the face with a smoked kipper until they started to tell the truth. Can we then say 'it's legal, we had a survey?' I do hope so...

(Please note, no harm comes to the smoked kipper. It's already dead.)

Can’t see a kipper lasting long enough.

'Fight' would be daft - men are stronger.
'Flight' - ditto, they run faster.
'Freeze' - is an option, but it does mean they can accuse you of 'not playing along'.
'Fawn' - a more socially acceptable option that means one can pretend that there is no problem. Which actually can help to not escalate a situation. We've all been in those situations were everyone is pretending a man is not threatening or being creepy, right? The risk escalates sharply once risk is openly acknowledged.

Yes, but I'm picturing these big, strapping, middle class women alongside men who are not overtly threatening, just with a tangible sexual fetish for being in women's spaces? Maybe their desire to be perceived as liberal and progressive over-rides everything else?

Apollo441 · 17/03/2026 20:34

They will no doubt be relying heavily on their 'survey' that showed 90% of biological women would happily be naked in a shower with a transwoman or some other such nonsense. I hope Sex Matters council are prepared to dismantle the methodolgy of the so called survey. However, this is entirely irrelevant, you can't opt out of the law with a vote.

Its quite sensible response to risk in some circs. Placate, divert, appease.

Shortshriftandlethal · 23/03/2026 14:52

Chainlinkferry · 23/03/2026 13:58

That is WHY they fawn. Fawning, like flight, freeze and fight, is an instinctive response to danger.

You'd think that most women would have a very high 'creep alert'.....it is not as if these men are in the 'gay best friend' category (with no weird sexual under-tones). They're all AGPs.

To my mind I find it difficult to imagine a woman not being aware of creepy men breaching boundaries: having the sort of well tuned radar for male transgression that I have always imagined most women would have? Most women have been subject to male 'perving' and inappropriate behaviour, at the very least - since childhood. I certainly have.

Can some other women really not imagine how having men present in public spaces in which women are in a state of undress or pre-occupied with biological function must feel for other women, even if not for them?

Perhaps some women really are oblivious or immune to male sexual proclivities and fetisihes? Or maybe they just lack sensitivity? But i guess that yes, I suppose I can imagine a solidly middle class woman, of great personal confidence, might perhaps feels immune to the sorts of vulnerabilities other women feel?

I definitely think there's a leap to be made knowing that some men are a bit pervy, the ones who keep glancing your boobs when they're talking to you, for instance, and the lengths to which other men will go to indulge their fetish.

I mean, I'm fully alive to it now, and I get gobsmacked, almost daily, about how far these men will go in order to get a boner.

It's 24/7 for some men.
