It’s scary, that we have been saying this for so long and just been shouted over.

Wow Carrot. Great post. I don’t remember it, I started lurking on FWR in 2018 I think and tbh was afraid of all the intelligent and direct women. But I lurkily learned a lot, had my concerns validated, and learned to become one of those women myself (sometimes!).

I wonder where all the scolders from that thread are now and if their views have changed.

I remember seeing this post soon after I peaked, in 2020 or maybe 2021. Back then it seemed as though we were hurtling towards everything in that post becoming reality. I'm in Scotland, where forthcoming hate crime legislation and gender recognition reform, pet projects of a majority SNP/Green coalition government, looked certain to go ahead with some of the consequences in carrot's post. There were men in women's prisons, and we hadn't yet had Isla Bryson in his pink leggings peaking the public. I woke up to the issue when a friend's grandson was being validated as 'trans' by his mother (my friend's daughter) and by the school, and she wasn't allowed by the family to ask questions about the consequences of pretending he was a girl. The fact that we've managed to push back on a lot of this is a magnificent testament to the grit and determination of women, especially those who were in it from the early days. Take a bow, all of you.

We've got a long way to go. Sandie Peggie's judgement, and Maria Kelly's, show that we've got a lot to do before the Supreme Court judgement is properly understood and upheld. Our Stonewall-soaked, rainbow-lanyarded workplaces, especially in the public and voluntary sectors, are still largely captured. Labour, then the party of opposition and now the party of government, has gone from gender ideologues calling the shots to a mixed economy, dominated now not by ideological extremism but by political cowardice from front benchers who understand the issues and don't want to confront them. But we've stopped the tanker from steaming in the wrong direction. Its progress has been halted, and we're in the process of turning it around. That's a much, much better outcome than it would have been without the wonderful women warriors, and it means that the 15-year prediction in Carrot's post, which looked inevitable at the time, is unlikely to come to pass.

I would like to thank all the women who saw this coming way before the rest of us and have worked tirelessly to fight it.
I have joined the fight at, what I hope, is the beginning of the end but the early days of this must have felt very dark indeed.

It's oddly empowering to know that women were right about all this and deeply depressing to see the damage that's been allowed to happen - especially to children.
This comment buried in the thread from @LEMtheoriginal predicted what would happen to the young if these powerful men weren't stopped:

"Thankyou OP for writing this. I have often questioned your stance on here (not you personally) and defended people's rights to identify as the wish but it's not that simple is it. You have given me real food for thought there.

I do think the biggest issue is teenagers/younger who will be confused as fuck about their changing bodies and hormones and due to this trend will be questioning their gender".

Like so many on here, I've been involved with this for over a decade. It's always what we've allowed to happen to children that makes me weep. Giving up so many opportunities for a physically and mentally healthy future because they believed the lie sold to them that a sex change could cure their pubertal angst.

Yep, this was all seen coming, it was predictable, but very few spoke up about it at the time for fear of being dunked on.

I've been watching some Sydney Watson videos recently and she seems confident that the trans movement is dead. I don't think it's quite dead but at least dying.

I remember tearing up at the time. I NEVER thought the dial would move.
