Banned from Reddit for saying trans women are not biological women

I’ve managed to get myself banned for inciting hatred from Reddit for 3 days for saying that I don’t have a problem with trans women as long as they don’t claim to be biological women and demand rights to female sex protected spaces. Googled what social media channels allow any discussion on trans issues so here I am. Hi!

Somehow I've managed not be banned from Reddit (under a completely different username than here, sorry don't want to share BC lurkers)

I suspect because I reported a transgender activist racially abusing me and Reddit were extremely apologetic.

Presumably I snuck up the vulnerable victim list (!)

Boiled, I found this in a shop today!

Ooooh!

I'd say I want one, but I learnt my lesson with the Marmite Lynx. (The cats followed me around all day because I stunk of Marmite).

One of the tragedies that gets to the heart of identity politics is that you must believe someone's lived reality - if someone says that getting misgendered is worse than death to them it's a bannable offense to point out that it's unrealistic and unethical to compel every one else to behave as though it is.

It's also, plainly, a deeply unhealthy belief (delusion) for the person to hold. Yet pointing that out is also a bannable offense.

So, trans people are at a total loggerhead with reality. Many, even most (though perhaps not all), GC people are perfectly happy for adults to present as a stereotyped version of the opposite sex as both a form of self expression and means to reduce feelings of dysphoria about their bodies, and are willing to suspend their disapproval (so long as the individual is informed and in a position to consent) of body modification and induced hormonal disorder to enhance that expression. They wouldn't object to public campaigns to reduce bullying and discrimination against trans people and would also welcome any necessary additional precautions to ensure that trans people had access to effective, comfortable and safe single sex services corresponding to their biological sex. Surely there are in fact some instances where those facilities and services could be improved for trans people. But not only is that unacceptable in the debate, but considered to be bannable transphobia as well!

So, here we are back in the manipulative situation of trans people suffering from very real, sometimes florid, psychological distress, but the community exploiting that distress as way to try and coerce their allies into demanding untenable policies - in much the same way as that the manipulative child psychologists will present parents with the alternative of a trans daughter or dead son. When Falkner talks of trans people being the victims of their own advocacy that's what she means. But it's extraordinarily difficult to articulate in the public debate.

What's worse, with respect to Reddit and Wikipedia, is that those forums have trained the current generation of AIs that make them as shrill and unreasonable as TRAs, and those AIs wield enormous power in shaping the debate - they're used to craft policy, prepare talking points for talk show appearance, develop university curriculum, research reports, power chat-bots on social media, and run moderation tool for forums like Reddit itself, creating a circular, self reinforcing echo chamber.

As much as unpleasant as it is, I think it's essential for GC people who want to see change to engage Reddit and Wikipedia as contributors, and seek to build institutional pressure against their bias through pressure group like SexMatters and watch dog groups like ofcom.

on the embroidery subreddit, someone had posted a trans rights embroidery, I asked what rights did trans people not have, and got banned from that sub, lmao. I also got banned from the taylor swift subreddit and the kpop subreddit for equally milquetoast takes. it is so easy to get the ban hammer on there.

that was years ago tho, these days I use old.reddit.com and the RES extension in browser to block certain keywords (like "gender") on there so I can't be tempted to out myself and get the hammer.

That Spartacus thread is interesting, it was a couple of years before I was ‘Radicalised by Mumsnet’. It does show how much things have changed!

God, I've just realised that thread is 10 years old and conversations had evidently been going on for a long time before that. There's been a lot of women here for such a long time fighting for women's rights. I was peaked five years ago and even that's relatively recent in the scheme of things.

Long live FWS and all who sail in her!

Welcome to the TERF side Grin

I’ve never bothered joining Reddit, I’d be banned almost instantly for my terrible TERFery so it seems a waste of time. Anyway, the humour is better here AND we have Tunnocks (teacakes for preference, I find the wafers a bit dry and chewy).

@murasaki It's different, though. I don't know what the technical term is, but mumsnet is one of those old style forums where posts appear one after the other.

With Reddit, instead, posts are hierarchical.
You make a post. I reply (level 1). If someone replies to me, their post appears under min (level 2). If someone replied to the original post, it's a different level 1 reply.

These various levels end up nested one into the other. Those with more votes are pushed up, those with fewer votes are hidden and collapsed.

Supporters say that reddit subs get too much traffic and a mumsnet-like model wouldn't work.
Detractors point out the toxicity and the groupthink

I've seen some Reddit style downvoting would make MN nicer, but I think it's just a different form of toxicity.

Some of my own friends insist they are biological women. How can anyone be that dumb. If it has or had a penis its a man. End of, however much it wants to be a woman.

PrettyDamnCosmic · 06/12/2025 12:08

I got banned from the r/transgenderUK subredddit for posting a link to Ben Cooper's excellent discussion of the Supreme Court judgment titled "Why the Supreme Court’s judgment does not remove, diminish or breach the rights and protections of trans people"

Welcome @Oryx54321

I had been pondering whether to ask on reddit a question I have which I don't want to ask on here because it's a question for people who believe TWAW and this didn't seem like the right forum, so I guess from your experience it wouldn't work there. Did your googling suggest any social media channels other than mumsnet where people of differing views are allowed to talk about things rationally?

I wonder if that blogger would have banned Serena Williams for saying she would lose to male tennis players. No, wait, I know, it must be because Serena Williams is a lousy tennis player...

helluvatime · 06/12/2025 09:05

I got banned from a blog that I had been following for years by a so-called feminist writer for saying that I thought it wasn’t fair on sportswomen to have to compete with males as they had different bodies/abilities. Not only did the blog owner ban me, "for life", but she made a big deal of holding me up to others as an example of bigoted behaviour that would not be tolerated. Actually it was quite useful as it really opened my eyes to the madness.

There's a discussion going on on Reddit about what it's like being a transwoman in the UK but outside of London. The majority of posters say that they have experienced no, or almost no negative incidents - over a period of years. At worst, maybe the odd "microaggression" of a double take by someone. A lot of them say they feel that the huge majority of people don't care whether they're trans or not, and that they've had support from their local community. This seems very different from the experience that a lot of women have - experiencing sexual harassment pretty frequently, and often feeling physically unsafe. I didn't get the sense that transwomen are in fact some of the most vulnerable people in the UK.

Is it on trans UK?

Wbeezer · 03/12/2025 21:59

The Gender Critical sub Reddit was really good but of course it got banned.

SlipperyLizard · 02/12/2025 12:57

Welcome!

Reddit (while useful for some things) is generally a cesspit of TRAs.

This. I am a lesbian who is banned from all but one lesbian subreddits because I have said things such as I wouldn't sleep with a transwoman, or would feel unsafe if I inadvertently went on a date with one. They're biological men. But reddit doesn't think so.

WaverleyOwl · 03/12/2025 10:29

I'm regularly banned on Reddit for 3 days for stating reality.

I was also auto banned from the whole site until I pointed out that my gender critical belief is perfectly legal and I was saying nothing hateful.

Wbeezer · 03/12/2025 09:50

Yes, I’ve been on Mumsnet for donkeys years, I dipped into Reddit to broaden my knowledge base but got lectured at (mostly by youngsters!) rather than having a proper exchange of views.

SexRealismBeliefs · 03/12/2025 02:46

Wbeezer · 02/12/2025 22:51

Yes, for stating that I didn’t believe that trans women are actually women.
Did me a favour, Reddit wasn’t good for my peace of mind.

That’s good to hear it’s a benefit! It’s so important to stand up for the truth & be objective.

Mumsnet have been so good at tolerating difference and allowing women here to hold those in powerful positions to account.

Also, what the fuck are we supposed to do? There's a man dressed as a woman in the Ladies, are we supposed to call him out or something? Obviously, we just wash our hands and get out of there as quickly as we can.
