What is Riley Gaines hiding? We investigated…

This podcast appeared in my feed today via an affiliated show… I know it is naive but it’s still hard to believe how blinkered - and unbearably smug the US liberal wing is on this. This is rubbish ( from the ‘Center for Investigative Reporting’, which I now wouldn’t trust to tell me if it was raining), but still enlightening… wondered if anyone else had heard it.

A six month dig to discredit Gaines - we’re not supposed to notice that everyone they’re trying to gotcha in this won’t dignify any of it - that finds her hiding (spoiler alert) nothing?

And to think this situation could have been avoided if the man involved had respected women and not used the female changing room, whether he flashed anyone or not.

Absolutely!

She is a well-paid pundit and lobbyist and this could perhaps be made clearer. It isn’t altruism that is driving her.

bloody hell. She was pretty much cancelled. How the fuck, especially now she has a baby?, is she supposed to earn a living.

Why should she be altruistic? should she live on air and rainbows?

The fact is that the idiots simply cannot countenance anything, any idea or anyone who doesn't 100% agree with them. This is absolutely batshit.

So she is a right-wing conservative christian woman. I probably disagree with her on 90% of political issues. That doesn't make her awful it makes us different.

Likening her to Kirk is provocative.

Where did I liken her to Kirk? It wasn’t me that did that.

But since you brought him up, yes, she is like Charlie Kirk. She was a friend, colleague and associate of his. She travelled around college campuses early on giving speeches with TPUSA arranged by Kirk, and the mode of her media operation of very similar to Kirk’s.

I have no problems with journalists getting paid. I also have no issue with women getting paid to campaign. That is the fucking point.

If Riley Gaines had changed what she has been saying over time or was spreading misinformation, I might consider that she was motivated initially by money. But I don’t believe she was.

Why do you believe she should be discredited for being a paid activist? Does it mean what happened to her didn’t happen? Should she not discuss it? Should she not be campaigning to protect female sports?

“It is fine, BTW, for a piece to be written critiquing someone you think should be admired.”

Is this aimed at me? Have you just assumed that I admire Riley Gaines? Well, I admire her for continuing to campaign after she had to be locked in a store room with security for hours while police finding cleared the building of violent protestors who tried to break down the door of the room she was in. But no. I don’t ’admire’ her more than any other women’s rights campaigner.

I think her activism on behalf of women’s sports is great. The Trumpism, anti-immigration, nationalism, evangelism, mom-is-best messaging - not so much. This is what she is being paid for. And yes, I would consider some of it misinformation, and a good amount of it propaganda.

I was thinking the same. Ime only men believe in misandry. Women usually know it's BS.

Oh, misandry exists all right. The difference compared with misogyny is that misandry rarely does much damage, because of the power imbalance in favour of men. When I say 'rarely', I mean just that; not 'never', but far from 'often'.

Datun · 27/11/2025 21:38

Misandry

Well I certainly have dislike and contempt for all men who are violent, sex offenders, predators, bullies, intimidators, lechers, leerers, misogynists, sexists, chauvinists, and not fans of Withnail and I.

The remainder can take a bow.

CohensDiamondTeeth · 27/11/2025 20:39

Misandry 🙄This is another attempt to put feminists in a negative light for their reasonable reaction to male violence and misogyny.

Rules of misogyny:
12. Women’s ability to recognize male behaviour patterns is misandry.

NecessaryScene · 27/11/2025 20:32

Does it look like we're "happy" putting men in that statement?

It's just true, and women have to deal with it.

Yes, if it was backed up by stats.

There's no other group that are overrepresented as violent offenders to this extent. We are talking about the male 49% of the population committing over 90% of the murders. It doesn't matter whether you slice up a population by race, religion, sexual orientation, whatever, there is no other group whose members are 9x more likely to murder than their peers outwith that group.

I find it amusing that on a thread about a group that has changed definitions of words that we have the same thing going on with the word misandry.

No-one has said that its systemic, or in the case of a pp going to the absolute worst scenario.

The definition of misandry stands without the reasons or explanations that posters wish to put forward.

some women on here are misandrists.

They have a "dislike of, contempt for, or ingrained prejudiced against men."

but this is going off topic and I apologise for that.

They have a "dislike of, contempt for, or ingrained prejudiced against men."

I think you've seen women expressing fear of male violence and frustration with how male violence limits our lives, and interpreted that fear as contempt, dislike, or prejudice.

When over 95% of murderers are men and 98% of sex offenders are men, and when only a male sex offender can leave only a female victim pregnant against her will, women's fear of men is rational and our frustration at their continued violence is justified.

Is it a prejudice when statistics back up that men are responsible for the vast majority of crimes committed against women?

I think that like Conservatism comes in little c and big C versions, Misogyny is the same. There's the little daily hates from individuals (little m) and the Big M overarching woman hatred of (for instance) not having female crash dummies, or not testing medications on us, or keeping us in silence in our homes only allowed to look at the world through one eye.

Misandry only comes in little M. There's no systematic man-hating going on anywhere in the world.

Why would you think that misandry doesn't exist?

Its fairly clear that there are plenty of women on MN that have a dislike of, contempt for, or ingrained prejudiced against men.

You have to laugh. You can barely get a swimming costume on even if it's not a competitive one whilst holding onto a towel. There aren't many women who haven't tried to do exactly that on the beach. Hence those things that tie up with a drawstring round the neck. (And even they don't really work).

I suspect the explanation is that men just don't get it, because all they all they need to do is wrap a towel around their waist, job done.

Not that I think Howse has ever done any swimming or indeed had to get changed for anything athletic.

viques · 27/11/2025 17:46

Howseitgoin · 27/11/2025 04:56

False. Only Gaines claimed Thomas exposed herself. The other complaints were about Thomas' presence in the change room with individuals in the podcast claiming she was covered in a towel & kept to herself.

And you have claimed this before sighting evidence that said no such thing.

Edited

What does Thomas have to “expose” if Thomas is a woman? I imagine that in Thomas’ mind there is a modestly pixilated area from his belly button to his thighs so that his external genitals are obscured from casual gaze. Sadly for the poor women who were forced to share a changing room with him, his penis was in full view and apparently taking a perky interest in its surroundings.

Women's justified distrust of men isn't comparable to their tendency to rape and murder us. Hence why no such thing as misandry. Calling women's fear that men might kill us "misandry" is both-sidesism and hence utter nonsense.

MistyGreenAndBlue · 27/11/2025 16:50

I'm not in the U.S so i don't know the extent to which RG has become one of the 'go to' people/faces when it comes to the issue of males in female spaces and sports.....but it sounds like she is now quite prominent. She's receiving the same sort of hate that JK Rowling has long received.

I think we under-estimate too just how mental/far gone the U.S is on this issue; even those who are not in favour of trans ideology and its consequences stiil automatically use pronouns and the terms of reference that arise directly from it.

Madison Pauly is the reporter covering gender and politics at MotherJones.com, so it is hardly surprising that someone of her ilk would try to rubbish Riley Gaines. The left/Democrats are even worse that Labour over here, in fact they are on a par with the Greens.

FrippEnos · 27/11/2025 14:57

On the subject of being cancelled.

It is worth pointing out that many of these women would have been on sports scholarships.
So, if they had said anything at the time, the scholarship would have been pulled (as was threatened) and their futures lost.

I post this as I am sure that many on here supporting men in women's sports have little idea of how the American college system works and how many people get these types of sponsorships to be able to get a leg up on the level of career that they can aspire to.

Also, women campaign for women right in general, but arent power lifters or swimmers themselves = whats it to do you, you dont know the first thing about the sport.

Women campaign for something they have direct experience of = they are liars, unreliable, dont have the 'correct' opinion on other issues.

Women can have too much funding to have an opinion, but also too little. Where she getting the money, also take no notice of her - shes only a housewife on twitter.

Men with or without a gender identity = have the right to speak with authority regardless of credentials, other opinions and income.

Yep.

The incoherence is almost palpable.
