What is Riley Gaines hiding? We investigated…

This podcast appeared in my feed today via an affiliated show… I know it is naive but it’s still hard to believe how blinkered - and unbearably smug the US liberal wing is on this. This is rubbish ( from the ‘Center for Investigative Reporting’, which I now wouldn’t trust to tell me if it was raining), but still enlightening… wondered if anyone else had heard it.

A six month dig to discredit Gaines - we’re not supposed to notice that everyone they’re trying to gotcha in this won’t dignify any of it - that finds her hiding (spoiler alert) nothing?

Changing in the same room isn't the same as exposing nudity. You have no evidence any one other than Gaines said Lia Thomas exposed herself to the other swimmers.

Edited

Men don't belong in women's changing rooms. It really doesn't help your cause to try to play it down and smear the women protesting. It doesn't matter what the women's politics or religion is. HTH.

Interesting. Lot's of red flags about Gaines.

Gaines complained initially about competing with trans women but as she was deployed as a right wing political operative during Trump's campaign her story 'evolved' into one about sexual assault for being in the presence of an exposed trans women in the swim change rooms. All while ignoring the environment of sexual assault & abuse of her team mates at the time by her coach who she lauded as her close friend & mentor.

Gaines only claimed much later Thomas was exposing herself in the change rooms but her teams mates claim she was wrapped in a towel changing away from the others.

Whatever you think about women in sport, this appears to be another example of trans women being weaponised as a political cudgel rather than any real concern about protecting women given sexual abuse of women in sport is a common problem.

🤣🤣🤣

So everyone agrees a full grown intact man was in the changing rooms with women...and you think it's a gotcha to say but only one of them saw his cock?? 🤣🤣

Brewdug · 27/11/2025 08:08

Not commenting is an absolute cop out from them, lest they say the wrong thing and get cancelled. They did refer to Gaines ‘misgendering’ and equated her objection to Thomas being a complete volte face to previous support of a lesbian teammate. They are not mutually exclusive things.

They don’t like her, Trump or where she gets her money. So what. Again, she isn’t ‘hiding’ anything and it simply isn’t the ‘gotcha’ they think it is.

I think the issue was that a man was in the female changing room. It was an issue as (according to the young women there) he was exposing his genitals, and gawking at them when they were naked. This is exposure and voyeurism, which are sex offences, and apparently a loophole had been created whereby men were facilitated to inflict it on the women in this situation.

It could take up to 20 minutes to change into those swimming costumes. I think those young women must feel quite abused to have been put in that situation. All involved in doing that to them should be accessories to sex offences. Men shoudn’t get away with flashing and peeping, nor should those who enable them to do that.

This is false. There's no evidence of the claim of exposure as has been shown upthread.

"It could take up to 20 minutes to change into those swimming costumes. "

Lol.

ProfessorRedNine · 27/11/2025 08:07

Howseitgoin · 27/11/2025 04:56

False. Only Gaines claimed Thomas exposed herself. The other complaints were about Thomas' presence in the change room with individuals in the podcast claiming she was covered in a towel & kept to herself.

And you have claimed this before sighting evidence that said no such thing.

Edited

Amused at sighting evidence. Yes the penis belonging to Lia Thomas was indeed sighted.

Hoardasurass · 27/11/2025 08:04

Howseitgoin · 27/11/2025 05:46

She never claims she sighted nudity….because she didn't.

Now whos reaching 🤣🤣
Accept it you are wrong and seem determined to excuse a predatory male using the female changing facilities why is that?

I am not going to doxx anyone. People can google your handle.

In Australia we say HOWS it going.

No......'E'.

Yeah… I have never written it ‘howse it goin’’ either. That seems to be wrong. Maybe it is a new thing??? A regional difference?? To claim it is a common usage for Australians is rather far fetched.

Howseitgoin · 27/11/2025 08:02

Brewdug · 27/11/2025 07:53

It is completely fundamental to their whole ‘investigation’, and there in how they wholeheartedly commit to the pretence of Lia Thomas being a woman no different to the rest of the team. The whole podcast drips with disdain for Gaines.

Again, there were no statements made to the effect of LT's entitlement to change in the women's change room & they explicitly said they were not going to comment on that issue.

And in any case, whether LT is entitled to be there or not is irrelevant to the point of Gaines initial version of events changing & how that may have been influenced by monetisation in politics.

I do agree they are disdainful of Gaines & use a mocking tone but given the accompanying evidence, it's hardly not warranted.

Legobricksinatub · 27/11/2025 08:01

Why would a man who demands the right to change in a woman’s changing room suddenly be all coy when he is in there? If he thinks he can demand everyone pretend he is a woman then why would we believe he doesn’t fully embrace that and strip off in front women? Of course he would! If he was concerned at seeing/being seen he would have asked for another space to change

JellySaurus · 27/11/2025 07:58

TortillaKitty · 27/11/2025 06:31

Aren’t you doing the same ‘guilt by association’ here by blaming the left?

What Torres uncovers here isn’t absurd. RG does have GOP platforms, a regular spot on Fox, is on the lucrative speaking circuit, has some odd Christian nationalist and anti-immigration views, and is a vocal Trump supporter. That might sit okay with you, but not me. I’m fine with her campaigning for keeping men out of women’s sport based on her experience, even if some memories of that experience may vary, but it is the political crusading from the results that is troubling.

Feminism is a political practice of fighting male supremacy on behalf of women as a class, including all the women you don't like, including all the women you don't want to be around, including all the women who used to be your best friends whom you don't want anything to do with anymore. It doesn't matter who the individual women are.

He not she William/Lia Thompson is a man not a woman and he was watching young women get changed into and out of their swimming costumes and no i dont believe he was always covered up or in the corner.
Its funny how these abusive men always claim to be in the corner watching the wall when we all know thats bs as nobody behaves that way in a changing room.
Men who use the female facilities belong in jail as the predatory sex offenders that they are
Edited to remove a random m auto correct added to lia I guess that even my auto correct knows he's a man

Legobricksinatub · 27/11/2025 07:53

Brewdug · 27/11/2025 06:11

I just think this ‘red flags’ idea about Gaines is absurd. This podcast - and poster here - are going after her by association because they don’t like Trump and think anyone he favours must be awful, holding her responsible for the behaviour of her male coach, and because they simply truly believe that this is just a white blonde woman being vile to another woman.

The very idea of the importance of single-sex spaces is completely ignored and Thomas’s sex is an elephant in the room, and that’s why I find this abhorrent. Like Brexit, the US left will never get itself together over Trump until they actually figure out that the people who vote for him aren’t cartoon idiots who need telling what’s what. That was one of the biggest takeaways from this exceedingly disingenuous ‘investigation’.

They wouldn’t care if they truly believed it was one woman being mean to another. They only care because it is a woman saying no to a man.

Brewdug · 27/11/2025 07:53

Howseitgoin · 27/11/2025 07:44

I don't agree the podcasters stated Gaines is wrong about her views on trans women in women's sport. In fact they go to great pains to say they don't wish to make any judgment on that aspect.

How does a female person use a towel to hide while having to spend 30-45 minutes getting into competitive swim gear?

I remember hearing Paula describe how they get into their competition gear with having to wiggle around for up to 45 minutes. I know competitive swimmers and they have confirmed this.

To double down on ‘he wore a towel - nothing to see here’ seems to be some misinformed thinking.

Yes, but there is a specific context involved....that's what separates threads.

And yet… all the threads concern women’s rights in some form. Whereas you seem more concerned with denigrating women and shoehorning men into female spaces? Why do you hate women so much? Who hurt you?

ThatBlackCat · 27/11/2025 07:51

How dare a feminist make money while advocating for womens rights! Don't wimmin know they should only advocate for womens rights when dirt poor and not making any money from it?

How dare a woman suss out a man and verify that suspicion! Damn wimmin, doing due diligence is STALKING I tell you! Not the fact I f'cked up by using my real surname in my handle and also use the same one for an insta account. Dumb mistake by me but how dare wimmin check it out and find me out!

Changing in the same room isn't the same as exposing nudity. You have no evidence any one other than Gaines said Lia Thomas exposed herself to the other swimmers.

Hahhaaa i suggest you get a competitive swimsuit and try and put it on. Modestly. I couldn’t do it in a cubicle without putting a hole in the wall as I wrestled with it.

That's the least of the "strangeness".

Purporting to be all about protecting women then turning a blind eye to their 'hero's' obvious monetisation & cover up of sexual assault tells you why stalking other commenters private lives doesn't seem immoral.

errrr you’re the one popping on here to scold women mate. I don’t think you can comment on anyone’s “strangeness”. You seem very determined to force women into compliance in accepting males into female spaces. Why is that? Have you considered consulting a therapist who may help you unpick your misogyny? It may help you in your offline life as well. Just think how nice life round be if you had actual friends instead of opening yourself up to mockery and derision by coming on feminist boards trying to tell feminists how to be feminists.

PrizedPickledPopcorn · 27/11/2025 07:44

Howseitgoin · 27/11/2025 05:41

The context on this thread is whether Riley Gaines is a genuine supporter of women's rights not the ethics of single sex spaces. There are plenty of threads for that.

That Gaines campaigned ….&.exaggerated her experience for a political party who are a threat to women's rights ought to give pause in feminist spaces.

What I’m saying is it starts from a point where Gaines is simply wrong and needs bringing down. On this, she isn’t wrong. It’s a hatchet job and not a good one even for all the ‘this took us six months’ self-congratulation.

That's because its a podcast about money & politics not the ethics of single sex spaces which would distract from the purpose. Gaines is a salient example because her views evolved over time…which is fine unless they divert from the facts which they appear to that implicates whether she really is committed to the issue at the heart of it…protecting women.

It's really not, especially when dealing with a well known bad faith poster who brings such attention to themselves. I would fully expect Howse, and others like him, to be doing the same.
