Women change openly in front of the sinks to go clubbing. Miscarry. Flee to the ladies to escape a male. Seek help. They wash out blood-stained underwear at the sink, baby sick off blouses. We are sometimes in a state of partial undress. Which is why we need the communal safe space. Cubicles do fuck all for that. Not to mention there are cubicles in the males too...

I agree. Most people are afraid to speak up because of the potential backlash, so they say nothing and allow everyone to think they are on board with the TWAW concept.

By this logic toilets don't need to be separated but clearly they do for safety reasons that applies to both trans women & women. And given there's no evidence statistically of trans women being a safety risk to women then sharing toilets only makes sense.

Women being forced to share their spaces with men makes no sense to women, it really isn't that hard to comprehend.
We don't have to justify it, or provide statistics for it, or explain it in any way, the fact that we don't want to share our spaces with men is enough.
Any problem men have in men's spaces is for men to sort out, not women.

Gen Alpha overall really don't give a stuff about all of the old (to them) people screaming about how nasty JKR is. In fact it probably makes them more likely to seek out anything Harry Potter, they're contrary little people.

There may not be enough evidence to show that a trans identified male presents a greater risk to women and girls than other women and girls but the rare cases of assaults/ harassment that have occurred in such spaces have not been perpetrated by women.

It's the 13 and 14 year olds in my life parting with their money for HP merch. They love JKR. The magic isn't fading!

Just throwing out a guess here, but anything to do with the fact HP is one of those things that became too popular for its own good and now any slop with "harry potter" on it will generate money from the fans in their 40s who insist on parting with their money for everything HP related?

The thing is that it’s hard to tell the difference between a gender non conforming man and a transwoman. It could just be a man happily wearing a skirt and eyeliner to tescos, or it could be man actually convinced he’s a woman. How can you tell the difference between them? One is open minded about gender expression, one is in the grip of a mental health crisis.

Consistency is definitely a thing, as recently made clear by the Supreme Court ruling - ‘woman’ has to consistently mean ‘biological female’ and that single sex facilities and services should be exactly that.

You say that most people have never seen and never will see a trans person. I don't know about that. Transwomen do tend to stand out from the crowd. Even before all of this stuff kicked off politically, I'd noticed a few transwomen and had even been assaulted by one in a single sex youth hostel dormitory. And I don't get out much.

Safeguarding can be difficult - tho not as godtier suggests, a 'nightmare'; that's rather hyperbolic. But lots of worthwhile things are difficult. It was probably difficult to start giving women equal rights to men - we do after all have the temerity to be the ones who give birth and therefore need time off work! - but surely godtier doesn't think sex equality all too much of a 'nightmare'?!
