German Police Officer being taken to court for "faking trans identity"

Just heard it on the news, so no further information as yet (will do some digging) but this is potentially explosive, or potentially really going to be depressing.

A police officer in Düsseldorf has changed his gender ID (we have self ID laws here) to female in order to be elligible for a promotion only available to female officers. (presumably only available to female officers for balance in the upper echelons).

He has also declared that when he gets married he will change his gender ID marker back to male. This is in line with our laws where that is possible, i think there is some time restriction on it, but theoretically you can change pretty much at will.

The police as an organisation are accusing the officer of using the self ID laws nefariously and it is going to court.

ETA: have checked and it is true. s/he was [i am in Germany, the law is clear on what i have to say] telling colleagues openly that after promotion they would be changing back to male before getting married.

The police are, of course, being accused of Queerphobia.

I would also predict that it's a non starter. Make a ridiculous law that invites piss taking and the piss takers will come.

i am assuming that there won't be much in the press, i will try some of the sex realist accounts i follow online and see what info i can glean.

But i think that there is no way anyone but the officer concerned is going to win this case.

I am also more than a little cross that the police, famously pro-women (not) complaining about this. I wonder if the female officers raised it at all.

Fair play to him. He is allowed to do that, most people wouldn’t have the balls to pretend they had removable balls. He should have kept his Mouth shut about his plan though!

If the laws allow people to do this, what's the issue?

If there's some other criterion required for someone to be trans, this needs explicitly stating (to cries of "medicalisation" and "gatekeeping") and being part of the legal requirements.

If not, he's acting entirely lawfully.

This is the consequences of everyone imagining their own meaning of words. Exactly what everyone with two brain cells to rub together has said would happen for at least the past decade.

No. Trans means across. As in transmission, trans-continental, transubstantiation, transformation, transaction etc etc

Is there anything in the wording of the legislation about intention or purpose in changing gender marker? I doubt it.

If he's doing everything by the letter of the law, I can't see how the case against him can succeed.

I, too, do not believe the police can or will win this case. If it ever gets to court.

Most people here are just living their lives. There is a large element of "be kind" but day to day?

I don't get out that much, but there was a transwoman at a gig in a local pub the other day. Very much looked like a man in a wig and a frock with a bit of lippy. As i heard several people whisper. Sitting alone with a large space around them. It was a bit sad, tbh, because clearly it wasn't comfortable for anyone.

Thanks for posting OP. I doubt any UK papers will report on it but hopefully the German ones do so it's recorded for posterity at the very least.

The idea of 'faking' an self-identity, an unfalsifiable concept, is hilarious. Governments like those of Germany require the reality of their ridiculous, unsustainable legislation to be shown for what it is, so well done that officer.

I am just so sorry for those living within such legislation and fervently thank all the vocal clever women for their work keeping things saner on Terf Island.

Ooh, interesting! Thanks for telling us @Brefugee Whatever the outcome, one good thing is that if the case is going to court then this is going to play out in the public domain. I don't get impression that the German public was aware of all the implications of self-id when they brought it in. The public will start getting the idea now.

Better late than never.
