I wasn't able to find the judgment. There'll be a hearing in February but it's not clear to me whether claimant's beliefs have already been tested for Grainger compliance. Either way, the tribunal will (also) have to address objectionable manifestation (Bananarama doctrine).

I've raised it here because of the parallels with Forstater. It's a constant refrain of TRAs that permitting Forstater belief is tantamount to attacking GR as a protected characteristic. They do not understand secularism (or the SC ruling).

Of course the situation is not the same insofar as Islam has not been written into our law and Muslims don't expect the rest of us to follow its rules.

Article 9, anyone?

Criticism of Islam can be a legally protected belief, judge rules

Patrick Lee is pursuing a belief discrimination claim against the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (IFoA) after it banned him and fined him nearly £23,000 last year over a series of tweets criticising Islam.

@JadeSquid So what is your definition of human life? When does it begin? Because as I said, even a baby cannot survive when born unless it gets continuous care.

Before birth, it begins when the mother says it does. A baby doesn't need its mother to stay alive - anyone can keep it alive (especially now). A fetus does need the gestating mother to stay alive. Specifically her.

3 pro lifers.

Yep.

A baby can't survive without you (or some other human) looking after all its needs. That continues for some years, it's quite awhile before a young human can survive alone. Fetuses are humans, they are people. They exist from the moment of conception, otherwise you have to arbitrarily decide just when they become human or get a soul.

Please let women determine how they feel without resorting to labels.

The label of pro-lifer goes to those who believe all fetuses of every pregnant woman has a life that ended when a woman aborts the pregnancy, regardless of gestation. If you have that belief and share it, you will be known as a pro-lifer because you believe that fetuses have a life in a comparable sense to a human who has been born or perhaps could survive independently outside the womb.

You may not be the type that harasses women outside abortion clinics, but you share their beliefs.

Not when it comes to my fetuses no, i don't count it as a life. It cant survive without me. Until I decide I want to continue the pregnancy and actually have a baby, it's essentially a parasite to me. I dont count it the same as murdering a human who has been born. I count it as bodily autonomy

That's not what was said, though. You can see clearly what that person wrote. They said it is difficult (and insinuated that women always find it difficult) because you are ending a life. The idea that a fetus is a life is a philosophical/religious/spiritual but very individual belief. It is a pro-life belief.

Naomi, another non bad, duplicitous or sinful woman. Slightly mean to Ruth, but in a pragmatic sort of way and it all worked out for the best. Mainly thanks to Boaz being quite improbably decent and virtuous.

You can support women's right to abortion (I do) without denying it's very often a difficult choice and frequently a trauma, you know.

So no requirement to wear a burqa? Why wear it?

I find it shocking that girls in the UK are wearing burqas to school ( or anywhere for that matter). That is definitely worth criticising.

Why wear a cross when you don't have to? Why do so many religions have dress codes oriented around modesty? Why doesnt every single member adhere to them? Why do some adhere to them?

It depends on how you wish to express your religion in your personal presentation. It's an individual choice. We had several girls who would wear hijab but their mothers would not. Sometimes the whole house adheres to those dress codes. My best friend always said she would wear hijab when she takes her religion seriously. She started wearing it at about 30. None of her siblings or her mum wears hijab except at Eid. She wears it all the time now.

Sounds fairly typical view of women in the bible, certainly old testament. Men, great and good, women bad, duplicitous and sinful.

women bad, duplicitous and sinful

except Tamar, Rahab, Sarah, Rebecca, Leah, Rachel, Dinah, Miriam, Deborah, Jael, Huldah, Hannah, Bathsheba,Judith, Sarah (the other one) Anna, Ruth, Susanna, Esther, the widow who fed Elijah, the mother in Maccabees who saw her sons tortured and killed, others I've forgotten. And Lady Wisdom.

And many of the men are seriously stinkers.

I think your reading of the Bible is very odd.

I see this is also a pro-life hub..

Sounds like you might have a narrow world view.

Says the person who wonders how someone in the burkha can eat 😆

’in here’ who do you mean?

There are at least two clear pro-lifers in this thread.

EasternStandard · 12/11/2025 12:27

JadeSquid · 12/11/2025 12:25

And I'd think that the people who would like the Hamdsmaids tale would be the pro-lifers in here

Why would it be my only reference? It just sounded like Petunia talking. I was also reminded of the "dirty bastard" couple in Catherine Tate, but didn't know how to refer to them.

Either way, I was prompted to think about people who live in little grey villages where they don't even have a Chinese takeaway.

If the only literary ref you have is Harry Potter, I recommend The Handmaid's Tale to you. I'm sure you'll love it.

Yes I do, they eat and drink just fine. Those who want it are provided a single sex environment for things they might want to do. PE is single sex. There has been alternatives to PE kits which allow free movement while preserving modesty since back in my day.

Do you live in Little Whinging?

A parasite 😳

Yes something that is living off of me and changing my body and risking my health. It's a baby when I want it to be because it is my body.

JadeSquid · 12/11/2025 12:18

By the way, in 16 minutes, I had 6 quotes. The intensity of the obsession with Muslims and trans people on here is kind of ridiculous.

You are talking about particular extremist sects, not about Christianity generally.

There is no universal, imperative in contemporary Christianity for a woman to cover her head or wear any specific item of clothing. Practices and interpretations vary widely by denomination and culture; whereas in Islam there is an imperative for a woman to wear a hijab and cover her head.

So the abortion laws that mean that women are prosecuted for having a stillbirth in South America are not based on their adherence to Catholicism? It's based on their love of babies, I suppose.
