I just listened to the SEEN in journalism podcast with Nick Wallis - he said he spoke to Tim Davie at a party and told him that the trans story is even bigger than the post office scandal because it is about trust in institutions - and Davie was dismissive! Wonder if he will ever remember that or care

This.

Nick Wallis clearly gets it.
Tim Davie not working this out says a lot.

The BBC is THE public broadcaster, which is supposed to be impartial.

Other news sources are expected to have an element of bias. Ideally this wouldn't be how it is, but everyone expects the Telegraph to be right-wing and the Graun to be lefty.

I know that is the theory but you will get just as many criticisms from the left as from the right about the BBC.

And as "the" public broadcaster it is part of the public, ie reflects what are seen to be generally accepted views.

ie it doesn't sit back and say we are the ones who can act with true impartiality, because we are untouched by the public mood.

If you remember they go told off in the early days for giving a disproporionate time to Farage during the whole Brexit era.

But that was driven by public interest.

Obviously, I think they like so many institutions have been and still are totally Stonewalled. And even now it is hard to believe how many institutions were and still have this embedded in their practice.

In fact in the early days the BBC was very much not about impartiality but about making sure the British public were constantly reminded of what a small elite group thought British (but mainly English) values should be.

The Panorama piece was made by an Indie, as was the Gaza piece featuring the son of a Hamas leader.
The BBC shouldn’t trust these profit making independents to follow their editorial guidelines.

Strange message from Emily

Tim Davies Resigns - Can Gender Critical Movement take some credit?

I don't see anything in the attachment that says the BBC are acknowledging anything of the sort. It just quotes Michael Prescott talking about it at the end. The Trump stuff and the Gaza bias, they've held their hands up but I've seen nothing from the BBC owning up on their one-sidedness on gender woo? Have I missed it? Been a bit dim?

no only in so much as they finally added it into / noted its in the memo in the live coverage!

but it seems Sky were including it before they were - you’d assume the bcc would have all the info for a news on the bbc…!

I know everyone loves to put the boot in to the BBC but in terms of UK news coverage the majority of outlets have their own "we will censor any GC news stories". Its just the the BBC is more open about it.

Of only everyone was as enraged about say the Guardian, the Indpendent, etc silencing of GC views as they are about the BBC.

So on one level the BBC is in line with UK standards of reporting on GC issues.

Look at the near 100% negative coverage and commentating about JKR. To a level that is close to hate, and daily published or broadcast.

BrinkWomanship · 09/11/2025 21:42

Unfortunately those resignations were absolutely nothing to do with institutional bias in the BBC’s trans coverage, antisemitism, etc. and everything to do with pissing off Trump and being so blatant in its editing of his speech.

As others have pointed out, the whole organisation needs to be reviewed. Otherwise they’ll just recruit others in their same image and we’ll get more of the same.

I stopped paying my license fee this year. I’m happy to pay for wonderful programming like tonight’s Kingdom, but absolutely can’t support its news coverage.

borntobequiet · 09/11/2025 21:39

I wonder if anyone has done a FOI request of the BBC to find out how many trans related complaints it’s had over, say, the last five years? I know they’ve had dozens from me.
Having never done one of these, I might give it a go tomorrow.

Hopefully Megah ?

<a class="break-all" href="https://archive.ph/2025.11.07-104228/www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2025/11/07/bbc-gender-correspondent-tried-block-coverage-trans/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">https://archive.ph/2025.11.07-104228/www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2025/11/07/bbc-gender-correspondent-tried-block-coverage-trans/

I have never heard of this person, but from the article: “The leaked dossier includes claims that its <a class="break-all" href="https://archive.ph/o/Fl9ZF/www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2025/11/05/bbc-trans-coverage-censored-own-reporters/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">trans coverage was biased towards stories “celebrating the trans experience without adequate balance or objectivity”.

I remember the absolute radio silence from the BBC when Kellie-Jay Keen and the other women were attacked and surrounded by the violent TRA mob in New Zealand. Absolutely nothing on their website, it was so startling. That was it for me, no more clicks nor license fee from me since then.

IwantToRetire · 09/11/2025 21:31

What is interesting, or shows double standards, is that if Davies can say about BLM that it is personal politics and should be "left at the door" how is it that the BBC has this trans news desk. In terms of "militancy", as opposed to ensuring fair coverage of a minority, the queer news desk probably out does any BLM t-shirt.

At least more of the tories have been openly talking about the issues! Cass was even commissioned by them

Agree that the Tories seem able to talk about it, but actually doubt that many more Tories are GC, but probably have a dislike for some of the antics and behaviour of TRAs.

And dont forget it was the Tories who originally set in the motion, until all the terfs woke up and said no way, the idea that self identifying should be allowed.

Totally forgotten who was women's minister then, but they were very much be kind.

In reality I think the Tories show that for those genuinely suffering from gender dysphoira that worst thing that could have happened are the full on TRAs. Many of whom aren't in any way trans, but just good old fashioned (if young) MRAs.

What has being a Tory got to do with "trans shit".

If he is Tory leaning wtf was he on re trans shit?

That puzzled me too but the Tories were full on gender woo until relatively recently, certainly until after May's tenure.

WarriorN · 09/11/2025 21:22

When Cass was so barely mentioned by bbc, what chance did something like WPATH files have?

The Prescott memo is very clear on some key points around the trans issue at the bbc.

the only credit we can take is that so many of us have been yelling from the rooftops and supporting those who have braved the battlements

seen in journalism probably could be credited

ultimately it appears to be a combo of issues

Blinkingbother · 09/11/2025 21:17

I’m not sure the gender critical movement can take a huge amount of credit, but some yes. I’m no fan of Trump but the speech doctoring was wholly unethical and amoral - it’s terrifying to think what else they may have done and got away with…. Is this a panorama issue alla Bashir or is there a BBC wide lack of true journalism and transparency. Scary times as far as I’m concerned - who the hell can you trust to tell the truth?

I read this article I the Telegraph when it was published back in October

https://archive.ph/6WVPZ

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2025/10/19/black-lives-matter-not-welcome-bbc-newsroom-tim-davie/

There wasn't a thread that seemed suitable for it at the time. I remember feeling utterly dumbstruck. The brass neck of that man. How he could say that and keep his face straight.

It seems we might be getting a book from Tim (hmm, TiM! Appropriate 😃) sooner than he anticipated. I doubt I'll waste my money on it.

I hope Sonia holds on and doesn't let go about the trans issues - the resignations may have been because of Trump but the letter from Michael Prescott was about bias across large sections of its reporting and these cannot be sidelined.
