Would a biological woman identifying as a trans woman be accepted in the trans community?

Just curious really if this is something that happens. And if not, what the argument (by trans people) would be against it. Sorry if it’s been covered before. Just been working through some stuff in my head and started to wonder about this!

Oh, I dunno, @Kimura. They're always telling us we do womanning wrong, they're more of a woman than we'll ever be, and they've earned their womanhood which makes theirs more womanly.

Like OP (I presume) I have PCOS. This has often been proposed as a direct analogue of transwomanness and certainly, at various points during my (in)fertile years, made me feel not quite as female as I should be.

It's not totally unreasonable to suppose - within the trans paradigm - that women like ourselves might be justified in seeking to validate our female identities the same way male women do.

PCOS is a type of intersex.

GarlicHound · 09/11/2025 05:44

I'm not sure I understand how you identifying as a 'trans woman' - something you insist isn't a woman - would serve to validate your female identity.

It wouldn't. I'm debating within the paradigm. If I'm a woman but my body doesn't meet the usual expectations of a female body (can't gestate, androgenised), I meet the criteria for a transwoman by their own description, don't I? I'm a woman but my body doesn't meet the usual expectations of a female body. Being 'trans' is all about validating female identity despite that.

SugarandSpiceandAllThingsNaice · 09/11/2025 05:44

Yes because non-binary is a category of trans.
not all trans is one to the other.
(according to my uni student with trans friends)

They're not all doing that though are they. I have no time for the ones that are, and I won't tar the rest with the same brush.

Trans women are seeking validation/recognition as something they don't naturally possess. I genuinely can't think of a non-bad faith reason for a woman to identify as a trans woman.

There has been the occasional one on twitter too. I think one was Australian. Each time the women were told how they simply could not be and that they must be just mocking transwomen.

You could not make up the response.

They would have been right though - The only reasons a woman would claim to be a trans woman (especially online) would be bad faith/mockery, or in an attempt to profit from it like those two OnlyFans girls.

As strongly as many of us may reject the concept, I think you'd have to be quite ignorant to believe that every trans person has nefarious intentions.

quickquestion12345 · 07/11/2025 19:00

I guess I’m thinking of it because if sex doesn’t matter why would it matter here? I can kind of imagine a woman identifying as trans. I’ve struggled with fertility problems and facial hair and various things that have made me feel less of a woman. I am old enough now to know that that experience in itself was fundamentally female, but for many years I just thought I was not a very good woman. Am rambling slightly. Thoughts aren’t formed really am just cogitating!

Trans people don't transition because they feel 'less of' though, they feel that their biological sex is incorrect, or incompatible with their gender identity. They transition to the gender they feel is correct.

A woman cannot be a trans woman, because there has been no transition. I imagine the trans community wouldn't accept a woman as a 'trans woman' because there's no logical reason for anyone to identify in such a way, other than to wind them up.

GarlicHound · 09/11/2025 03:42

Coconutter24 · 07/11/2025 20:34

But your gender corresponds with your sex so there is no transition. You are biologically a female, you’ve struggled with female issues that only a biological woman can experience and having those problems doesn’t make you any less of a woman

WHY ARE YOU SO OBSESSED WITH OTHER PEOPLE'S GENITALS? You should probably see a therapist about that. It's no concern of yours what's in a transwoman's pants. Bigot! (Etc, etc, etc.)

GreenFriedTomato · 09/11/2025 03:26

Indeed. Not particularly right in the head. Therapy doesn't always work. But coercing the rest of society to adapt to someone's mental illness no!
I'm past caring about tims. But all the women and young girls who have had mastectomies. What this ideology has done to them is unforgivable. They may be able to get breast implants again later but what about the psychological harm caused so far?
I may not be around to see it but I hope that all those that were complicit get imprisoned and made to pay for the harm they have caused.
The TRA keep saying that society will adapt. No. Society will recognise this as one of the greatest medical scandals and madness in history

IDontHateRainbows · 09/11/2025 03:02

GreenFriedTomato · 09/11/2025 00:24

Not necessarily.
Born a woman, transition to a man, feel you are a woman..transition to a trans woman..... It's not de ..or going backwards .just keep going forward..
Maybe feel you're male a while later.. become a trans man.. just keep moving.

Isn't it fluid anymore? You can't argue that it's fluid from mtf, ftm. And that it's fixed. That you can only go one step forwards and backwards and not just flow eternally?

If TMAM then if they decide they are now women, they can only ever be transwomen.
So...according to trans theory. Biological women can be trans women !

Sounds like a right headfuck, is what it is.

You can be a furry unicorn and change sex if are happy lying. Thus, you could theoretically say you're a man pretending to be a woman. With lies anything is possible.
The truth is restricted to facts and makes sense.

MO0N · 09/11/2025 00:20

Very meta to identify as something which is (by definition) identifying as something else.
Would it cancel out in the way that multiplying a negative number by a negative number gives a positive number?

GreenFriedTomato · 09/11/2025 00:13

Xiaoxiong · 07/11/2025 18:57

there’s only one sex that can be a trans woman, and that’s male. A biological woman can never be a trans woman - she would be a trans man, if she feels she is trans.

Trans women are a subset of men, not of women.

But in the upside down, can't one just identify as anyone or thing one likes?
I'm a biological woman, who identifies as a male, who identifies as a woman. Therefore I'm a trans woman. (With an extra step on the way)
Why not?

arcticpandas · 07/11/2025 19:00

If you are born a woman but define yourself as a male and then change your mind- that would be trans woman then?

That was my first thought. Just do a double-reverse self-ID and Bob's your uncle!

Transister · 08/11/2025 22:30

Julie Andrews might have got there first in Victor/Victoria.
Not seen it for years, did she trans trans for economics rather than kicks?

TheIceBear · 08/11/2025 20:59

Could a biological woman identify as a trans woman who identifies as a biological woman ?

Haulage · 07/11/2025 18:57

I seem to remember there was an uproar because of something like this happening a year or two ago. I’ll try to find it, but the short answer is no, women can’t identify as transwomen because that’s appropriation.

ETA: https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/womens_rights/5155654-in-what-might-just-be-the-most-insane-story-of-the-year-two-female-onlyfans-models-have-gone-viral-after-pretending-to-be-transgender-to-sell-porn-content-trans-activists-are-now-accusing-the-women-of-appropriation-for-identifying-as-men

But but but ... transwomen ARE women. So appropriating WHAT exactly? Womanhood?

Imagine - women appropriating womanhood! Shocking! Burn the witches.

FlirtsWithRhinos · 08/11/2025 13:53

With a serious head on:

TWAW-type genderists don't consider a male bodied person to be necessarily a "man" . They think "man" and "woman" are types of personalities that have been incorrectly believed to be determined by ones physical sex.

So a "trans woman" in their belief system isn't "a man who is a woman", it's "a person who is a woman but doesn't have the traditionally expected body of a woman".

Real women ("cis" women in genderist language") can mever be trans women because real women have the traditionally expected body of a woman.

If humans had three sexes, male, female and chibble or something, male women and chibble women would both be trans women. (Serious hat slipped a bit with chibble but it illustrates the principle.)

Any GC logic that associates trans women being male-bodied with them being men will fail in genderist terms because they don't see the two as synonymous. To demonstrate the flaws in genderist logic you need to show that it is internally inconsistent.

(Which is it BTW, in so many ways. The most fundamental being "If society was wrong to assume "women" means female, surely all the "women"'s things that were created based on that assunption are the wrong things? So how come TW so desparately want them when they literally reject the whole concept of "woman" that they are based on?")

ChocolateHazlenutButter · 08/11/2025 11:02

I’ve thought about this recently, more in the context of asking someone who believes TWAW if I (a woman) could be a TW. I’m guessing their answer would be no, in which case I’d love to hear the rationale. Because if the answer is no because the only way to be a TW is to be a man in the first place, I don’t see how they could argue that TW are anything other than men.

of course if the answer is yes, I could become a TW, then it would be fascinating to hear what that would entail.

I genuinely hope I get the chance to ask this question.

(edited for sentence that made no sense)

quickquestion12345 · 08/11/2025 08:44

So by not accepting biological women to identify as transwomen it confirms that transwomen are a subset of men rather than women. Or is the idea that they are both?

OP posts:
arcticpandas · 08/11/2025 06:36

@quickquestion12345 "Feeling born in the wrong body but identifying not as a straight man but as a feminine man who enjoys face cream/ masks/ pedicures/ ‘women’s films’/ clothes/ make up. If we are told these things define our gender, then why not just stay a heterosexual woman?"
Exactly! My DH loves romantic comedies and spends mucy more time and money on his looks and clothes than I do. My idea of hell is shopping while he enjoys it. Should I tell him we got it mixed up and we should just switch gender in order to make it right?

It's so ridiculous. I wanted to be a professionnal football player growing up and I was "one of the lads" because I loved running around playing rough. If someone put the idea in my head back then that I could chose being a lad (despite the fact that I had a crush on one) I would probably have jumped on it. Luckily this shit didn't exist back then and I had feminist parents who told me and my siblings that the sex we were born with was not to define our interests nor our aspirations. I can still remember my dad complementing me for being strong and fast and my mum for being intelligent. So I find it sad when girls get reduced to only "pretty".

When I was feeling mischevious the other day I considered starting a TransQueer movement for people who feel they align very strongly with LGBTQIA2S+ values and lifestyles but unlike the priveged CisQueer are
not themselves L, G, B, T, Q, I, A, 2S or + , meaning they are not seen as their true selves by the Queer community.
