Compare here, where the Conservatives have had two women PMs and one leader, and Labour zero. So yes, I agree it's more likely a woman Republican would succeed - but also unlikely given the male supremacy reigning in the USA in general. It'd take a very tough women equivalent to Thatcher.

Well no but this thread isn't about the abortion debate, so suffice to say RG's opinions on abortion is one of the reasons some women feel it's justfied to attack her as they do.

I don't put a huge amount of importance on having a woman president in the US just for the sake of having a woman, but it is unfortunate that the Dems have been running these female candidates who are very unlikely to win. AOC is really popular in the Dem base - unlike Harris - but I am not sure she is popular enough with swing voters to win.

The reason it is unfortunate, imo, is people will keep blaming their losses on misogynist voters, rather than the Dems being clueless and running unwinnable candidates. And maybe people will start to really believe that and shy away even from good female candidates.

I think a good woman candidate could absolutely win in the US. I almost think a Republican woman would fare better.

I'm convinced the first woman president will be a Republican. Someone will go all out to talk tough and out men the men, and voters will go for it. The Democrats are in trouble. The 'Kamala is for they/them, Trump is for you' line really struck a chord but they can't back away from it.

I'm not sure RG would call herself a feminist? I don't actually know but I suspect not. She's a very commited Christian.

I suspect she believes she campaigns for women's rights and cares about women but doesn't subsribe to all the supposed tenets to claim to be a feminist.

Being in favour of unrestricted abortion is not the only pro women stance. Many women think unrestricted abortion has harmed women in many ways. There are diffreing opinions on what leads to the best outcomes for women.

Anyway, yes I'm sure her abortion stnace is a key reason AOC feels it's OK to attack her like this

Unfortunately although RG is (rightly) very vocal on one particular area, I wouldn't call someone who has talked about the "evils" of abortion rights a feminist exactly...

It does highlight a problem with how polarised US politics is currently. Neither side is exactly pro-women.

RG is entitled to comment on policies pushed by politicians. AOC is a politician who supports those policies. She should be able to engage in a debate to defend them. As completely typical of supporters of trans inclusive policies she did not engage in debate but chose to sling a personal insult instead.

And Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez then responded to a tweet with a link to an interview that Riley gave on the interaction where apparently Riley said ' I would like to challenge AOC to a debate' :

AOC knows what she;s doing. RG isn't just womens rights campaigner in the democrats view she's a Christian, right wing, Trump support aka a Nazi. So people like her should be hated as they are evil.

This will work for her within the party which is all she cares about just now. She's not trying to win over moderate centrist voters, she;s showing how much hate she has for the evil people.

The democrats need to find their own charismatic candidate who is as authentic as Trump seems to his base. They had it with Bernie, but AOC and Newson just seem to be play acting at the moment.

AOC trash talking RG is delibrate playing to the base stuff. They love this. Gavin Newson is adopting a similar strategy, on twitter they are emulating Trump's 'I don't give afuck about the old rules I'm a fighter who plays outside the rules' approach.

It's certainly helping her raise her profile which is what she wanst if she's going to run for president, which she is probably is. And she may well get the nomination from the party. They seem to be going full on socialist/trans the kids/ release the criminals with the support and presumed election of Mondami in NYC.

The base may love this but the centre of the country won't and an AOC vs JD contest would be interesting.
