Far right women

There was an extremely pointless thread in AIBU a few weeks ago where the op professed that they wanted to understand why women would give their votes to right wing politicians. It turned out that they just wanted to pontificate and hand wring, rather than listen to the reasons people less out of touch with what the average person thinks explained to them. Seems familiar tbh.

I’ve read it. A lot of it isn’t really about right-wing women at all, it’s about the various ways in which men subjugate and oppress women. It’s a hell of a depressing read.

As quite a conservative (small c) woman, I do find 'extreme right' a code word for 'conversation over', if it even gets that far. The phrase just reduces anyone with any kind of right-leading views to an unthinking, ignorant, uneducated megalith.

I'm a well educated woman who thinks in layers and nuance. I was raised by fairly liberal parents, and my husband is left of centre. Most of my friends fall somewhere on the spectrum and I feel able to have respectful conversations which put context to a lot of the trickier discussions, and why we feel like we do. I have my world view for a reason, based on a plethora of reasons that I have considered for myself.

There is an intersectionality where feminism and right wing beliefs overlap and fundamentally, most people that I know, feel that their beliefs are the way to make the world a better place. Finding those motivations and reasons for believing in whatever we believe is very important. Most people will have a 'why' that just isn't conveniently boxed off as hatred, racism or misogyny. Sometimes it is, but it's lazy to not try to find out why people feel as they do.

I understand the point of view of my more liberal, left leaning friends and they understand mine, and it's all respectful and thought provoking. Locking anyone behind a label instantly dehumanises and silences them, and if it doesn't, it taints heir argument with a sense of incredibility before they even get started. I want to know people and know their stories and find out what they think and why, because that's how growth and change happens.

I hear 'extreme right' and instantly know that the conversation will have a foregone conclusion before it even commences.

Oh I see. The post is a bit hard to decipher, but there was a dose of superiority and insult so wondered who was at fault. Usually women not doing as wanted.

From what I can tell some of the left on mn give far more headspace to what they consider to be far right figures online anyway.

No one here has mentioned (on this thread) about being supportive of the far right

I think if we don’t agree to swallow any misgivings we have about left wing misogyny for the good of all women everywhere our poor lady brains have been corrupted by shadowy forces

I whole heartedly disagree. Farages comment shows a blatant open disrespect for women which will be adopted by his supporters. Whataboutism is a weak argument where you can’t actually justify what farage said.

Yadnbu but as you can see from the responses, some Very Online women have embraced the far right because they know what a woman is (the ones they deny rights to, easy peasy).

Meanwhile radical feminists and those who work mainly IRL keep concentrating on women's material conditions and rights.

The difference between left-wing and right-wing when it comes to women is only about where exactly on our necks their boots should be placed. To right-wing men, we are private property. To left-wing men, we are public property.

I don’t see how the far right represent any womens interests. Having seen farage speak to a journalist this week in the most condescending manner I’m shocked that any woman would want to align themselves to a party with him in it.

I’d expect an mp to at least demonstrate an element of professionalism when speaking to people and that just would not fly in any professional environment.

True there’s been so many accusations due to women pushing back on this.

Whats actually happened is that advertisers want to represent everyone, and that has lead to black people being over represented in adverts.

Most people arent bothered by that in itself. There was a lots of jokes going around about the average couple must be mix race if the advert were to be believed, thats all.

But for some it show how inclusion and represention is prioritised over everything else.

Claim these people racist, but that isnt going to make them vote differently.
