I was on the Sadiq Khan thread, it was all “oh everyones racist”. Thread just died after I posted evidence that he clearly must have known. Massive institutional failure and we need to ask some hard questions about how and why some groups are over represented in some particularly horrendous crimes. Theres no point in avoiding it especially after the survivors have said they were told to avoid talking about race and culture despite the fact that they and Casey thought it was important.

The present Labour government have told all police forces they have to do this review. They have also brought in a law which states it will be mandatory for anyone working with dc to report suspected abuse.

@Swiftasthewind it is not 'the knuckle draggers' that are the problem. I live in a predominantly muslim area and everyone is frightened that the governments lying and coverups in going to cause race riots. It might be uncomfortable but it needs addressing. The poorest and most vulnerable are being preyed on and the Police have ignored it for decade. These are children living in care homes with no parents in many cases. And if these men do this to these girls, they will also be abusing their wives and children, many of whom also have no voice or financial freedom.

This has gone on long enough. It is not anti catholic to discuss the priests raping children and it is not racist to discuss this. It needs stopping.

Khan’s dismissal and sneering reaction when challenged on these matters should be the end of his career. I cannot comprehend how we have let this happen over and over again to our most vulnerable society members. Authorities just keep on kicking the can down the road, too terrified to face it head on because of what else there is to uncover. The surface has barely been scratched on these atrocities. If they can just keep it in the long grass for another few decades, many involved will die off. Exactly like they did with Saville. I’ve never been ashamed of my country before, but this utter disgrace is the one that did it.

It a real shame the gutter press has made it all about "Muslim" men in "gangs" rather than recognising that groups of men who for whatever reason meet or work together.

There are lots of types of rape gangs but one particular type of gang had a very specific profile - Pakistani Muslim men and MO specifically targeting white girls and, maybe this is the bit that’s hard to accept, were facilitated and shielded by many people in authority including the police, councils and their community. This is a unique and very real situation affecting a disproportionate number of girls (non Chinese Asian men have a far higher rate of offending per head than white men - the latest figures were shared yesterday on another thread).

Your dismissive comment about the ‘gutter press’ is unhelpful. The huge number of victims need people to investigate properly and stop turning a blind eye because they are scared of being accused of racism. They haven’t even got to the stage of having their voices heard properly and to dismiss the reality of who did this to them and why is cruel.

Every single person who brings up the ‘but white men run grooming gangs too’ just obscures a very specific issue.

It’s hardly a complicated term, he has advisors and access to the police, social services and health, and if he can’t ask them, there’s always Google. It appears to be wilful ignorance.

This is the precise inverse of what happened to many young white girls who were targeted by Pakistani rape gangs, and who were ignored, smeared, and in some cases further abused, by police.

The fudging and evasion and unwillingness to look squarely at how race and ethnicity were factors in both abuse and subsequent cover ups have been a shameful further abuse of girls and women.
