A demonstration organised by the campaign group Let Women Speak (LWS) took place today at Bonn Square. Around 100 counterprotestors also assembled, including members from the Oxford Green Party, Stand Up to Racism, and Oxford for Trans Rights (O4TR).

This is hilarious. My initial post was sharing my opinion. Then I was subjected to a barrage of picky comments from one other person. This person didn't give their opinion at all.
Pardon me for sticking up for myself. They also seem to have done the same to other contributors. Good faith didn't come into it

Thanks for giving me the final tick on my activist bingo card. It's been very educational seeing you at work and I've learned a lot.

There are reasons why the poster might use that term in that way on a feminist board. Being here in good faith to share opinions isn't the first one that comes to mind though.

Maybe the poor lamb was triggered by the idea of letting women not only speak but have opinions they didn't approve of?

Absolutely astonishing to me to see someone, on a feminist board of all places, patronise and sneer at a woman by repeatedly addressing her as 'love', especially on a day when Farage is rightly getting in the neck for saying 'listen, love' to Mishal Husain. 'Does it even fecking matter'? Yes, it really fecking does.

"repeatedly"?

That still didn't answer my question . Love' is used in a friendly manner. And used in a sneery sarcastic manner. Your interactions suggest the latter. Just like the other poster on here that says 'dear' several times per post
Listen love, T'ra Love.

🙄 At least be honest

FFS honest about what?
Does it even fecking matter. Is this the "let's pick holes in pointless things" thread.
Shall I use a completely non sarcastic "Goodbye".
I hope that's acceptable for you.

The north of England has more people than Scotland Wales and Northern Ireland combined. We don't all speak the same way.

Thank you @ILikeDungs and @SidewaysOtter for your presence there & telling us about it here. I watched the first of the videos (I think there are 3) and it looks like a really intimidating crowd.

I don't agree with all that KJK says or does, but I really admire her fearlessness and her kindness. The way she encourages the speakers is really lovely to see. And she has even given the mic to people who disagree with her.

GreenFriedTomato · 20/10/2025 17:10

Any particular reason you keep calling posters 'love' in that manner?
Saying you're a northerner and that's how we speak up north won't wash.

If you feel like you've somehow found me out, fill your boots.
We're all entitled to opinions, you don't convey yours, you just criticise other people's and tell them off for swearing.
I know what I meant and so do a few others on the thread. T'ra love, I don't see any point in continuing to engage. Whatever I say you'll try and say I had hidden meanings.

Eh? Where did I tell you off for swearing??

What have I ‘found you out’ for? I’ve no idea what you are talking about now.

Funnily enough I have conveyed a few opinions on this thread. You might have missed them.

The idea that women shouldn't be buulied by their dads and husbands into hiding their faces and avoiding living a full life is not "anti-muslim". It is pro muslim and anti islamist

Quite.

And I can’t find evidence of this ‘inner circle’ claim. As I described upthread, as far as I can see, he was videoing in a restaurant of about 40/50 people and panned round and said hello to her (actually “Awright darling”) and she said hello back. A minor point also but she was wearing a Union Jack scarf (or possibly a flag tied stylishly as a scarf) - not ‘wearing it round her shoulders’ as claimed which creates a whole different impression.

He labelled the video ‘the A team’ and didn’t tag her in it. I’m ready to be proved wrong if anyone has evidence to the contrary but it didn’t happen in the way it is being presented.

Not sure how I missed this thread before now but, like @ILikeDungs, I was there.

The women were, as usual, standing around politely listening to each other. There was a lady who struggled not to cry (and reduced many of the listeners to sniffs and moist eyes) as she described how she hadn't seen her grandchildren for two years after she'd raised concerns about a female grandchild being raised as a boy. A woman and her mother who talked brilliantly about enforcing single sex loos in schools, and another who talked about the harm caused by gender clinics doling out hormones on first appointments. A fabulous woman who talked about what fascism REALLY is, when she'd lost members of her own family to Nazi gas chambers. And a couple of men, one who just thanked LWS for allowing a different opinion to be heard, and another chap who shook as he described his mother's horror at the idea that men could now be allowed into women's refuges when she'd herself fled domestic violence.

As for the flags, there were mostly "Woman Adult Human Female" and "TERF Island" ones - the latter have been around for quite some time, it's not something that's come about due to recent events.

Everyone was friendly and supportive.

Of course, on the other side of the road were masked protestors screaming at us. Some of it was the usual nonsense of "There's more of us than you/Whose streets our streets" (walk down any street you like, we're not stopping you!) but it was really unpleasant and deliberately intended to be intimidating. The visual of women talking among themselves and a solid phalanx of protestors howling abuse was quite striking. That was on top of the men whom I saw with the protesters earlier, who slunk round the back of the LWS group to have a good look at what was going on, a sudden loss of sound which may or may not have been someone pulling the plug deliberately, and a woman in sub fusc who pushed forward to shout "Fuck you" before running away.

I'm no wilting violet, I'll happily give as good as I get and I've spent quite a lot of time in Oxford over the years and never felt unsafe. And yet when I had to walk back past the protesters shortly after the LWS event finished and everyone drifted off, I carried my attack alarm in my pocket. THAT'S how awful the protesters were. THAT'S how shitty they were to women who wanted to speak in public.

As for the preacher, he absolutely was standing with the protestors and right at the front. Maybe he'd got confused and thought the number of keffiyehs on display meant it was a pro-Palestine event but he was still supporting people who were screaming abuse at a women's rights event. He was at his stall later on and got short shrift when he asked us to support his cause, so I hope he understands the sort of people and attitudes he was lending credence to.

Edited

Thank you and @ILikeDungs for your accounts. It is great to have it from the horses mouth so to speak.

It sounds like that Muslim preacher could have got confused but naturally gravitated towards the men shouting abuse at women rather than listening so I think pp was wholly unreasonable in criticising KJK for being rude to him (and dishonest for implying that she was being anti Muslim and called him an ‘asshole’ randomly with no provocation).

I’m looking out for an event near me - it sounds scary and all you attendees are very brave but I need to stand up and be counted at some point.

FFS. I haven't bullied her or LWS. I've literally said that it isn't a good look if flag wavers/shaggers/YL supporters start to attend LWS events. And don't start saying I'm now using different words, because I'm not going back copying and pasting everything I've written, as you seem to think is necessary.
The reason why I said it was that it plays in to the hands of those who accuse GC's of being far right.
You could do with working for the GLP, with your ability to find something out of nothing.

But you didn’t literally say that. You specifically said ‘flag shaggers’ and that they were attending her events.

No need to go back to your posts, it’s right here:

Not sure what confuses you. She attended, very publicly, Yaxley Lennons marchin London with a union jack around her shoulders. Now the flag shaggers are attending her LWS events.

I took exception and called you out on that disgusting use of language and smearing the event attendees/KJK and you then pretended you’d said something different and denied being dishonest.

You then accused me of supporting TR when I hadn’t even mentioned his name.

I'm assuming that you support YL otherwise you wouldn't be so dogmatic.

The only reason we are still having this conversation is because you kept denying and misrepresenting the facts.

I’ll leave it there though. I think everything is clear now. The only people I can see accusing anyone of being far right are KJKs detractors on here.

LWS usually hire “private security” and attracts far-right groups, so please be mindful of your safety first and foremost. We strongly urge you to wear a mask as this group get very personal and may record protesters

The absolute nerve of these people.
I have watched more than enough LWS events to know that the women that attend are mostly older women and are of no threat whatsoever. It's these counter protestors that behave violently towards the attending women.
Also, these events are always filmed anyway. And if the counter protestors are behaving appropriately why would they have to conceal their identities to avoid being recorded?

Please be mindful of your safety?
These people have no shame.

No self awareness for sure.

Every hero needs a villain, the more villainous the bad guy are the more heroic the good guys are. These people so desperately need to believe they are the good guys. Perhaps the voice they need to drown out the most is the one inside their empty heads that keeps telling them 'you're the villain, you're the villain'.

Oh come on, be fair. You wouldn't want them to hurt their backs while they were throwing things, would you?

It's so nice of them, and our visitors, to give us such a clear insight into their thought processes. Now what we need to do is give the rest of the world the chance to see it too, and that's starting to happen, which probably explains some of the behaviour.

How many speakers were there?

I arrived about ten minutes late so it had already started. It was surprising how many women were courageous enough to step forward to speak, considering the very large loud obnoxious crowd only feet away from our group. Maybe eight to ten women spoke? Two men as well, both basically saying "of course you are right, thank you for showing me I am not alone"

Imagine how powerful women would be if there weren’t so many women trying to tear others down.

The TRA side wore black hats and face masks, many dressed all in black with signs like 'Terfs off our Turf' and loudly singing "there's more of us than you" and other put downs while gesticulating wildly. Some made noise with pots and wooden spoons, there was at least one loudhailer, and very oddly an Imam arrived and appeared to play the conductor to the chanting crowd.

On the LWS side the women were dressed as they might dress any day, faces on show for anyone to see (imagine!) holding up signs saying 'free speech for women' and flags with the dictionary definition of women, and this small circle of women offered sympathy and understanding to the women who spoke. One speaker was in tears describing her story. She was supported by the others with many hugs and well-wishes. Who are the baddies here?

About the flags, I should add that the other side also used the Union Jack flag, on signs with slogans (tried to read them, couldn't make them out).

Thank you for your account, only the gender addled will still think 2+2 = jackboots and Hitler salute after it.

Jeez love, do you scrutinise everybody as much as this, you must be exhausted.
I didn't say the "flag shaggers from the London protest". So no I didn't say the exact same people attended both.
Saying that some undesirables were present at the same time as a LWS event was taking place is not being derogatory to LWS.
"Wild and totally unfounded accusations". No love, it's called an assumption.
Why don't you have a stab at telling me what you're actually trying to say. Because at the moment all you're doing is nit picking.
