I am going to defend Grint a bit here, I thought he was the better of the three in the last few films, acting a lot more like an older teenage boy would be actually like, talk and react compared to the script-stilted Radcliffe and Watson.

He was given shit lines I liked him though.

He was the best of a bad bunch.

None of the characters were written as well in the films. Grint did rubber faced comic relief, which is what film Ron was. He can gurn well enough for that.

Willoughby's posted six tweets today about JKR. Obsessed.

ArabellaSaurus · 29/09/2025 20:48

I don't want to make a screenshot of it, because it's fucking weird posting pictures of someone's house. Text:

'Classic gaslighting and manipulation from JK Rowling. Plays the victim - but SHE is the sniggering abusive bully who revels in nastiness. Really leans into the White woman’s tears to encourage hate and contempt for her target - trans people - specifically women who are trans. Time and again. Absolutely disgusting. Btw, you didn’t grow up ‘ordinary’ as you imply
@jk_rowling

  • you were in this converted schoolhouse!'
ArabellaSaurus · 29/09/2025 20:48

He's made a post with a picture of what I assume must be JKR's childhood home. Creepy doesn't begin to cover it.

MissScarletInTheBallroom · 29/09/2025 20:15

Can someone screen shot for the benefit of those of us not on X?

aold · 29/09/2025 18:13

just noticed that India Willoughby is doing post after post after post of toxic posts about JKR again. It’s really unsettling and odd.

Wow. Just gone and had a look on X. He's having a normal one, isn't he? Even for him, it's deranged and obsessed.

Well that’s gone well for Emma hasn’t it?
i am so glad JKR has finally addressed this in public.
the three former actors must be feeling very left out now that the tv series is gaining momentum and very pissed of that Tom Felton got the dream Broadway gig and a job on the new series, both I’m sure we can be certain were in JKRs to gift.

Oooh what’s he doing on the new series?

Americano75 · 29/09/2025 19:14

I can only imagine the tantrum going on in that ivory tower right now.

Bravo JKR!

He keeps begging people to sue him. That's how desperate he is for attention.

At what point did Stillaboy become relevant? Think I missed it.

I assume the economics of film v. tv series have also changed hugely since 2001, because it's so much more difficult to get audiences into cinemas.

That makes sense. People like things they can binge on at home now.

Maaate · 29/09/2025 17:20

MissScarletInTheBallroom · 29/09/2025 13:02

I've seen a lot of comments along the lines of "Emma is so classy, unlike JKR".

JKR could have thrown EW under the bus after receiving that note from her. The fact that she didn't shows class

Merrymouse · 29/09/2025 17:20

DontCallMeLenYouLittleBollix · 29/09/2025 17:15

Yes, I can see why they chose film initially, but the material seems much more suited to a TV series.

Also not surprised they've gone with kids who have some acting chops already, well as far as that's possible at aged 11. Casting something like this is inevitably a punt, and they failed pretty hard last time. I find it really hard to believe that the leading 3 were all the best candidates available for the roles.

Never mind the kids, I'm nearly 40 and I can't wait to see it.

Not just because it's impossible to do justice to the books in a feature length film, but because it will be great to watch Harry Potter without Emma Watson and Daniel Radcliffe in it. Rupert Grint seems like less of a twat, but his portrayal of Ron wasn't great.

Emma is most definitely panicking. If the new show is as good as it looks like, the movies are most definitely going to be massively sidelined. Theres a whole generation of kids and even adults too young to remember the movies coming out which was half the fun, and they are about to experience that with the series. Multi episode shows are a lot more popular than movies these days as well. I dont think any of the movie cast expected a remake for quite a while, perhaps in 15-20 years or so. I wouldn’t be surprised if we see over cast members slowly associating themselves with jkr again

Troubled Blood of course did not feature a trans-identified serial killer, not that that stopped JKR's critics.

I can see where cultural sensitivity might justifiably come into play when depicting a villain. The classic 1949 black comedy film Kind Hearts and Coronets was based on the 1907 novel Israel Rank, but with this notable change - in the aftermath of WW2 it seemed insensitive to make a film about a Jewish serial killer, so the villain was given an Italian background instead.

I have Romani heritage. The Irish Travellers are a different group and not Roma, but I still get a kick from Brad Pitt playing a badass and thoroughly unromantic Traveller character in Snatch. And I will never tire of recommending Black Cat White Cat as a warts-and-all non-victimhood portrayal of Roma culture.

As an aside I love kind hearts and coronets. There was a fab cinema in a hotel that used to show old movies. No trailers, no popcorn, no kids just a bunch of leather armchairs and you could bring your drinks from the bar. I watched pretty much everything Ealing studios ever made ruined me for multiplexes.

I'm not sure how to break this to you kindly, but a fictional character is exactly that. Are you saying that all writers must respect your beliefs and only write characters who hold those beliefs as wonderful kind people and/or tragic victims?

For instance, as a disabled person I'm proud that Davros the creator of the Daleks didn't let disability stop him having a good go at taking over the universe. I know Russell T Davies felt it wasn't nice to portray him as disabled but it's better than being an eternal victim and object of pity.
