I think JKR would forgive her if Emma reached out.

maybe if she apologised properly in the style of John Boyne apologising to Glinner. But she’s a long way from “I was wrong, you are right and I’m sorry”.

It sounds like she has left Hollywood behind (she hasn’t done a film since 2018).

Maybe academia has given her a different perspective and she is trying to gently row back towards JK Rowling.

I think JKR would forgive her if Emma reached out.

The UK Supreme Court ruling that the terms "sex," "man," and "woman" refer to biological sex at birth, not a person's acquired gender will have woken up many.

What I don't understand is, whatever happened to common sense? Why did they need a court to tell them what a woman was? If they didn't know what a woman was until the SC ruling, their parents had done a really bad job raising and educating them. Do we really need to go to court to get the water agency to tell us water is wet?

I have no idea where the ‘Italian ghetto’ of Australia would even have been? The over dramatisation of using those words was something that I was confused by.

Any ideas?

None. I've been to a few places in Sydney that have many Italian migrants, but none were 'ghettos'. And that's another thing, too. We tend to say 'slums' or 'slumming it' in Australia. Ghetto is more an American term.

Well done! Emma Watson has always been a class act. Nice to see her maintain consistency in treating those you disagree with respectfully.

Clearly, it is a DOG WHISTLE.

I went to a very nice pizza place in Fremantle. Maybe it's that?

MelOfTheRoses · 25/09/2025 12:00

Her career has always depended a lot on the PR. 🤔

I have NO mercy for her! None whatsoever. What she did to JK was beyond abhorrently cruel. She deserves everything that's coming her way.

so much this

Trust me on this, he most certainly is not from Australia. He is from America, and I am fairly certain from which state just from some google sleuthing.

She's in her thirties! Again with the infantalizing of grown women in here. She's not a child.
Also says a lot that you won't even read anything not to your "view" as you find it too angering, maddening 🙄

oh did I miss the mea culpa
do you want to address the points I made- the cowardice, the hedging of bets, the disdain she's treated JK with over the years
she's infantilising herself, you wally- with silly 6th form views that she never grew out of
I bet if I called Trump a child you'd let it slide- you don't seem like one for consistency

"when she was slammed for "liking" a tweet that referred to trans women as "men in dresses.”

-Supporting a dog whistle for ‘deluded’/mentally ill

Months later, Rowling came under fire again for coming to the defense of Maya Forstater. At the time, the researcher had been waging an employment discrimination battle, as her contract with a think tank wasn't renewed after she made a series of anti-trans statements. These statements included that people should not be "compelled to play along with literal delusions like 'transwomen are women,'" and she referred to a gender-fluid person as a "man who likes to dress in women's clothes.”

-Supporting those who explicitly call trans people ‘deluded’/mentally ill

"Rowling revealed she is a survivor of domestic abuse and sexual assault and said this led her to sympathize with women who had "concerns around single-sex spaces." She argued against throwing "open the doors of bathrooms and changing rooms to any man who believes or feels he's a woman.”

-Dog whistle for trans people as deluded predatory sex abusers

"Rowling published a new novel titled "Troubled Blood" under the pseudonym Robert Galbraith. The book, which revolved around a male serial killer who dresses like a woman, was accused of being anti-trans.
It was disappointing that Rowling was propagating a "long-standing and hurtful presentation of trans women as a threat," a spokesperson for Mermaids, a charity that supports trans children, said to CNN. Rowling, meanwhile, said the book "was loosely based" on real killers."

-Dog whistle for trans people as mentally ill abusers of women

"When Scotland's new Hate Crime and Public Order Act went into effect in April, Rowling tried to bait them into arresting her with posts online. The law criminalizes "stirring up hatred" against people based on their race, religion, disability, sexuality or gender identity. By passing the law, Scotland "placed higher value on the feelings of men performing their idea of femaleness, however misogynistically or opportunistically, than on the rights and freedoms of actual women and girls," Rowling said in the thread on X. If anything she wrote qualified as an offense under the new law, "I look forward to being arrested when I return to the birthplace of the Scottish Enlightenment," Rowling said."

-Dog whistle for trans people as deluded/mentally ill predatory abusers of women

"Rowling posted a photo from the fight, accusing Khelif of being a man who was "enjoying the distress of a woman he's just punched in the head."

-Dog whistle for mentally ill trans person who enjoys abusing of women

It's an interesting one though.

The character of Hermione Granger isn't supposed to be particularly beautiful. She is completely overlooked by Ron despite being miles out of his league until the Yule Ball, when she walks in wearing beautiful dress robes, on the arm of a famous international quidditch player, and having altered her appearance significantly to conform to prevailing beauty standards. She admits to Harry that after her disastrous experiment with polyjuice potion when she accidentally used cat hair instead of human hair, she got Matron to make her teeth look the way she wanted them to look, rather than put them back the way they were before. And she explains that she spent hours smoothing her hair using SleekEazy hair potion, but that it was far too time intensive to do on a daily basis. So Hermione was an ordinary looking girl who could make herself scrub up nicely with a lot of time, effort and money, and she discovered at the age of 14 that this would get her more positive attention than her academic achievements or bravery.

If the casting agents were being true to the book they should have cast a rather plain looking girl as Hermione and prettified her for the Yule Ball. What they actually did was cast an extremely pretty girl and just give her bushy hair - and they didn't even keep up the pretence beyond the fourth movie, which happened to coincide with her first modelling work for Teen Vogue.

I find this really quite grim, because it encapsulates what is wrong with Hollywood. I think the casting agents deliberately chose Watson, in part because they could see that she was going to be a classically good looking woman when she grew up, which would help to sell the Harry Potter brand and boost the movie profits. The Sun had a countdown to her 16th birthday, it's not exactly hard to believe that men might have gone to see the Harry Potter movies because they had a crush on teenage Emma Watson. The idea of adult casting agents assessing ten year old girls for "future hotness" is really quite gross, and yet realistically, that must have been what happened. I don't honestly believe that she was a better actress than any of the other girls who auditioned for the part.

Yes! People thought I was nuts when they were first cast when I said she was too pretty. One of Hermione's vulnerabilities is that she isn't drop dead gorgeous. She is not ugly and grows into her looks and scrubs up well, but effortless raving beauty is an advantage she doesn't have. Snape and Malfoy both make comments about her teeth, and Rita Skeeter about her frizzy hair.

Then I saw her act and realised there was NO WAY she was the best young actress who had auditioned. Made me furious.

OK I only skim read the article cos I'm lazy (and I found it a difficult read for my blood pressure0, but- it's done nothing to make me any the less angry with that spoilt child (Emma).
There's no mea culpa re ridiculous support of gender ideology, the nasty side she has supported for years, the flack JK's taken (and her part in it)- she's still more than covering her arse with them
Ugh! She's making out that she's all gracious and willing to have a friendship with someone with differing views- how very noble of you, Emma
Oh God I'm getting madder as I write this- I'd actually have more respect for her if she slagged JK off- instead she's trying to play both sides.
What a coward.

I would like to repeat the excellent joke made when the news broke that Emma Watson and Zoe Wannemaker both lost their licences in the same court on the same day: 12 points from Gryffindor!

(assmed it was The Sun, but can't seem to find the origin online)

Had to go and look: the Sun has 'Azka-banned', which I think is even better!

Nup. She was a beloved character in the Harry Potter movies, but like many child actors, wasn't convincing, relatable or expressive enough to make the transition from child to adult actor in the business.

Her "feminism" didn't help her. It always looked like PR posturing without engaging with the basics of what feminism is about.

Yes, tweeting pictures of herself prancing around leaving copies of the Handmaid's Tale for members of the public to find and read.

"This is what a feminist looks like. Oh, and a woman looks like anyone who says they are one."

Aye, right, Emma, then how come none of the handmaids were trans women?

Bloody hell. If she had another brain cell it would be lonely.

user9637 · 25/09/2025 11:00

My initial reaction was "ah, she's growing up". Then I realised she's in her 30's. Maybe Hollywood just fucks you up that much, I don't know...

She sounds like a mental health mess tbh, like a lot of Hollywood. We really shouldn't take what they say seriously. In fact, that we do is probably a cause of it all... just reminded of what Catherine Zeta Jones recently said... (where's the puke emoji when you need it?!)

ThatBlackCat · 25/09/2025 10:43

She is beautiful and very wealthy. I guess she can't have everything.

And this right here, Gentle Reader, is exhibit A of how shallow trans activists are. And listed first too. They actually do our work for us. No substance. Not a brain cell to bump into each other among them.

It's an interesting one though.

If being beautiful and wealthy is what she wants, she got it. Somehow I doubt being a "has been" actress and without much support from the women she keeps saying is supporting, it's all she wants.

Otherwise, she'll be retired from the profession and enjoying her life without giving public interviews.

Alltheprettyseahorses · 25/09/2025 10:54

I don't think Emma Watson wants to be a writer. If she did, she'd just write. Her PHD is the busywork of privileged procrastination. Good luck to her I suppose, I wonder if she understands the public perception of her as an intelligent feminist is not because of amything she's ever done or said (she seems vacuous imo) but because of a character that JKR created.

You would think that if people were secure in their arguments it wouldn't be necessary to smear women with dissenting opinions as perverse men but there you go…..🤥

Mate, we know you're a bloke. We knew that poster from a while ago with the fussy French feminine name who told us we were so ugly no man would do us the compliment of abusing us in changing rooms was a bloke too.

Now can you please get on with the irrelevant Wikipedia link posts? I've got a fiver riding on it with another poster. She doesn't think I can call it.
