Very late at night so cant find link now, but some years ago when there was a suggestion the women claiming unemployment benefit (as it was called then) were disturbed to see jobs advertising doing telephone sex work.
And also at that time there were stories that in Germany unemployed women who refused to work in a brother would have their benefits cut.
And in fact it was the union of the staff in the job centres who campaigned against this.
So wonder if this is happening now, whether whichever union it is, could be encouraged to do the same. If not then they are effectively becoming pimps.
re. Reed - yes I remember yet another of Blair's right wing private business is better that state business and Reed getting the contract for job centres. But what was even more catastrophic was this meant they also dealt with housing benefit. They were totally incompetent, and claims were weeks behind. And in the borough where I lived at least one women was forced into a sex for rent situation. And no one, including the majority Labour Party in the council seemed disturbed.
I had totally forgotten about it until reading this thread.
And it has made me feel the rage I felt then on hearing about this. And sadly the helplessness.
