Men in women’s groups.

Really unsure if I’m being unreasonable, but what do others think?

I belong to a FB group for women over 65 in my town. They have lots of get togethers, at least a couple a week. A few months ago there was a vote after a man requested to join. The overwhelming majority said no. If they want a similar group, start their own. Fair enough.

However there is a trans woman that has been welcomed with open arms. He would NOT pass as a woman, not quite a bloke in a wig but certainly you would know he was trans.

What do people think about this? Acceptable or not? I’m am totally the ‘live and let live’ but seems a bit disingenuous to ban men but not trans women?

So it's all about the man's 'feels'. HIS 'feelings'.

Right?

Well in this case no, it's about my feelings. That's what you disagree with.

Because I would find it strange that a 'normal' man would want to join a female only group and therefore be saying 'yes I am female' when he isnt trans. He can set up his only group or join a male or mixed sex group. And before anyone says anything yes I am aware a trans woman is not a biological woman! But I personally wouldnt have a problem with them joining the woman's group.

How do you know the difference between a “normal” man and the other class of man who are joining for nefarious purposes? Or more to the point, what about the women who his act of joining excludes? From a women’s group? Like me - I wouldn’t be comfortable in that online space. Because men overstep and before you’d know it women would be drifting off because the man has to be front and centre and setting the rules.

But they are not women, they are men. Male. It's a female only group.

I know that. I would still be happy to accept them. It doesnt matter how many times people disagree with me, it doesnt change how I feel on the subject. You cant force everyone to feel the same as you.

Anchorage56 · 20/09/2025 07:27

SternJoyousBeev2 · 19/09/2025 22:41

But why are you not equally happy to accept other men with genuine interest in the subject matter of the group?

I'm not sexist 🤣

Well, according to the vagina brain peoples, it's not sexist to expect all card carry vagina holders to think exactly the same.

Go figure.. 🤪

I've no idea, you guys look way too much into things. I like what I like, dislike what I dislike, feel the way I do, I dont need to explain it in great depth. It's quite bizarre that you cant accept this.

If the biological reality of “woman” means nothing, how are you going to provide me a safe space for counselling as is allowed under the exemption in the Equality Act so that I can mentally try to process things as I recover from from a very violent rape and sexual assault?

Taztoy · 20/09/2025 07:24

I would have a massive problem with this.

In the U.K. at least men are not legally entitled to be in single sex women’s spaces. And a transwoman is a man.

So you either admit all men or none.

The man you declined has been discriminated against.

Anchorage56 · 20/09/2025 07:23

FlirtsWithRhinos · 19/09/2025 22:35

Would you allow their god beliefs to determine how you live?

If a man says their God belief says they are allowed to join a woman only group, would that be ok by you?

If not, why is it different if it's a woman belief?

Again, it's because you are basically saying "Well I'm sexist and that's just how I feel and I'm really surprised so many people care about it"

I'm not sexist 🤣

Your still putting words in my mouth. That has never been said by me. I said I can understand if he wishes to be a woman or feels like he was born in the wrong body. I didnt say he feels like what he thinks a woman should feel like. He knows how he feels and he feels he should have been female.

His 'feelings' are irrelevant. I couldn't give a fck about his feelings. He is a man. Full stop. That's it.

Is Rachel Dolezal an African American? Does she have the right to join the NAACP? Yes or no?

ThatBlackCat · 20/09/2025 06:12

Anchorage56 · 19/09/2025 14:54

If I felt I was supposed to be born a man and decided to go down the route of changing my appearance or having surgery or just being out as trans, I would like to think I could join a men's club. So therefore I can see it from a trans person's perspective. But at the same time I'm a realist so I can also accept that some men wouldnt want that in their club.

So do you believe Rachel Dolezal should be allowed to join an African American group?

Yes or no?

ThatBlackCat · 20/09/2025 06:05

Anchorage56 · 19/09/2025 14:41

Yes I would object to that.

But in both situations, they are both men. You can't object to one man, and not the other man.

Your whole premise is that it depends on the men 'feelz'. A narcissistic man's fetish should not be taken into account.

ThatBlackCat · 20/09/2025 06:03

Anchorage56 · 19/09/2025 14:34

Well that's up to the group in question. I'm saying I would have no issue with a trans woman joining a women's group that I was a member of.

But it's a man. So you're saying you have no problems with a man (and a man in every single way) joining a womens group. That is in effect, what you are saying.

You just said it - I have no problem with a man joining a womens group.

ThatBlackCat · 20/09/2025 05:53

Anchorage56 · 19/09/2025 13:49

No it's out of understanding.

So basically pity. Centring the wants of men. You couldn't be more on your knees for men and the patriarchy if you tried.

ThatBlackCat · 20/09/2025 05:51

Anchorage56 · 19/09/2025 13:47

Yes biologically they are both men. But I can see a difference between a man who wishes to stay as a man (which of course is the majority of men) and men who feel they are female.

You keep on saying 'female'. Yet they tell us they know they aren't female. They feel like a woman. Not a female. There is a difference. They themselves say that. They don't feel like a female. They feel like a woman.

And they are not women.

Your whole premise is all about centring the 'feels' of men. Can't you see that?

ThatBlackCat · 20/09/2025 05:49

Anchorage56 · 19/09/2025 13:44

I guess I can understand how they would feel if they wished to 'change sex' or felt they were born into the wrong body. I can accept that and I can understand that. Agreed it doesnt change the biology but that personally doesnt bother me.

So it's all about the man's 'feels'. HIS 'feelings'.

Right?

ThatBlackCat · 20/09/2025 05:46

Anchorage56 · 19/09/2025 12:50

Well again personally speaking I wouldnt understand why a man would want to join a woman's group. But like I just said I can understand why a trans woman would. I can see the difference.

A transwoman IS a man! There is no difference!

ThatBlackCat · 20/09/2025 05:44

Anchorage56 · 19/09/2025 12:36

All I said was that it wouldnt bother me. Making friends as adults can be hard and I can imagine making friends when you are trans would be 100x more difficult as you will always come across people who wouldn't accept you simply based on that, no matter how funny or nice or friendly you were. So the way I look at life is I would accept them into the group as I'd understand they were trying to make female friends and wishing to hang out in that environment and only judge them on how they behave. If they were an arsehole I'd wish they had never joined, but that would be the same if they were biologically female.

I can imagine making friends when you are trans would be 100x more difficult

That's their problem. They did it to themselves, actions have consequences.

I'd understand they were trying to make female friends

Female only groups don't exist for MALES to make female friends. That's not the point of it. They can make female friends outside of a female only group.

ThatBlackCat · 20/09/2025 05:38

deadpan · 19/09/2025 11:35

I wonder what they'd do if a trans man asked to join 🤔

NM

ThatBlackCat · 20/09/2025 05:25

Anchorage56 · 19/09/2025 10:56

If they joined because they see themselves as a woman and wish to have more female friends then it wouldnt bother me.

But they are not women, they are men. Male. It's a female only group.

ThatBlackCat · 20/09/2025 05:22

Maddy70 · 19/09/2025 10:50

As someone who rejects anything women only (or men only) I would have no issue with it

Oh we get it. You're a 'cool girl' who thinks women should not have anything for themselves, right?

childofthe607080s · 20/09/2025 00:34

So why not say the group is open to those who people accept independent of sex ?

Like with any friendship acceptance usually depends on whether an individual complements the friendship. Perhaps the transwoman was accepted by your friends & not the man as they felt she had more in common with them. Men on average have distinctive behavioural, cultural & psychological traits to women so I suppose it depends on the individual concerned.

Anchorage56 · 19/09/2025 21:29

If you look back over my posts I have explained that. I dont believe they become women either. But I'm happy to accept them into a woman's group. That's just my opinion. You are allowed not to agree with it and I am allowed to be ok with it.

But why are you not equally happy to accept other men with genuine interest in the subject matter of the group?

FlirtsWithRhinos · 19/09/2025 22:35

Anchorage56 · 19/09/2025 20:47

I have explained it. Your mind isnt open to the subject, its closed off, so you wouldnt get it. Its like- I dont believe in god, and someone speaking to me about their belief in god, I'm never going to get it am I. I'm not going to understand their way of looking at that subject.

Would you allow their god beliefs to determine how you live?

If not, why is it different if it's a woman belief?
