I think you’re getting fooled by the huge difference in hunting culture between the UK and the US; the US hunter is usually blue collar/middle class, is an experienced rifle shot and has a big freezer. The chatter I saw when the young man was identified was along the lines of ‘yes, an experienced hunter could have easily made that shot with standard hunting gear.’

This is a crime which could have equally well happened in the UK (and has). Someone with a legitimate, legal use for a gun, who then used it to murder people.

Lots of people learn to shoot though. I don’t think it necessarily translates into gun violence. The Swiss, Norwegians and Finns all have about 30 guns per hundred people but gun crime is low. People are trained to use weapons and often keep them after military service, I assume training covers shooting at a live target.

I’m not saying no one ever gets shot in these countries but its much lower than you’d expect than if you were to say training + gun ownership / access = high rate of shootings.

I grew up in a city, my father liked to hunt so I grew up around guns. I learned about gun safety and responsibility.
I was not into hunting but my dad liked skeet shooting, and he took us. Americans like such things, marksmanship, going to a gun range. If I were still there I'd have a gun for safety.
America is big and vast. You can go hunting, shooting for fun without a problem. I think crowded Britain and Europe don't get that.

I assume the poster is referring to this article which was published today. It doesn't confirm anything, just summarises what other outlets are reporting:

Innocently means ‘not guilty of a crime or offence’ or ‘without responsibility for or direct involvement in an event yet suffering its consequences’.

That is, the parents were not guilty of any crime or offence when they taught their child how to hunt, nor were they directly involved in their son’s decision to use those skills to murder someone.

I think you’re getting confused by the difference in meaning between the adverb and the adjective.

Nobody is "stooping". They are responding to the thread starter. There does seem to be an indication that the assassin was living with a male who was identifying as a woman. This tells us nothing definitive, but it does potentially point towards some of the sort of surrounding culture/atmosphere that the assassin was inhabiting and how that may have encouraged him to do what he did.

At least in this instance there is actually going to be a trial (as often in these sorts of scenarios the perpetrator is dead leaving questions unanswered).

Well, hopefully there will be a trial, fingers crossed he’s being kept physically safe (including from himself) in jail.
