I believe some of the vigils for Charlie Kirk have been protested! At least one by a bunch singing the song that was engraved on one of his murderers spare bullets. I'm reminded of the Westboro Baptist Church and horseshoes.

Thank you @SionnachRuadh That’s one of the best and clearest explanations I’ve ever read (From Transition to Transgression above)

It is still very surprising that Lt. Governor Peggy Flanagan has not been called to account for the messaging she intended with that T-shirt.

No doubt she'll be hoping it'll have faded in people's memories. If I were her, with the recent events in Minnesota, I'd still be in squeaky bum mode.

Another one from Holly MathNerd (who's been great on this, check out the rest of her substack):

In recent years we’ve seen multiple trans-identified mass shooters. We’ve also seen the emergence of the Zizians, a fringe vegan cult linked to six deaths, whose worldview is entangled with trans-ideological currents.

And now, a major political assassination has been carried out by a young man whose life revolved around Discord chats—the breeding grounds where ideological subcultures metastasize—and who believed he was defending both his boyfriend and the world itself from Charlie Kirk’s supposed “hate.”

In the face of mass shooters and this latest example — to say nothing of the way that trans ideology and activism has taken over the whole culture in the last decade — we have to ask: why is trans ideology so uniquely radicalizing?

Interesting article by Stephen Daisley regarding media coverage of Tyler and Lance:

https://www.spectator.co.uk/article/the-problem-with-abcs-matt-gutman/

Excerpts I think are relevant:

"Yet the trans angle is also the most fruitful for journalists and progressives. If the story becomes one of tragic love and desperation and the fears of an oppressed minority, no one will be talking about politics anymore. Is political violence in the United States really the preserve of the right, or does the left have a problem with it, too? Did allowing activism and catastrophism too large a role in news reporting and analysis create an atmosphere of existential alarm among some already troubled people? In characterising political speech to the right of David French as fascism, racism, transphobia, and the rest, did Democrats and mainstream reporters place a target on conservative public figures like Kirk?

If this is the thought process, it says nothing good about the condition of American civic life. It says there are Americans who can more readily empathise with an alleged murderer because of his minority status than with the married father of two he allegedly murdered. I would say this is the inevitable end point of progressive identity politics but I suspect the road to hell has more stopovers yet to go.

...Aversion to the mundane, to the ennui of the ordered life, can leave us longing for transgression and its alluring excitements. Kirk espoused the ordered life. Those who cannot find solace in that life hope to conquer it by romanticising destruction physical and moral. Worship of disorder is worship of the generous gambler. "

The problem with ABC’s Matt Gutman

In a report on the Charlie Kirk assassination, ABC’s correspondent wistfully described messages between the suspect and his boyfriend.

There is no evidence for that. Making claims like this is transphobic misinformation.

Are the recent trans identified school shooters not evidence of that

Darker · 19/09/2025 17:45

wast542 · 15/09/2025 21:34

Because it was one of the talking points in Charlie’s debates. School shooters having strong links to trans community

There is no evidence for that. Making claims like this is transphobic misinformation.

Which reminds me of one of my favourite old gags, long predating the internet... what if the Gettysburg Address had been delivered, not by the famously eloquent Abraham Lincoln, but by the famously uneloquent Dwight Eisenhower?

The Gettysburg Address In Eisenhowese (Dec 85,Vol:37 Issue:1)

The Gettysburg Address In Eisenhowese

Although most observers now agree that Elsenhower could be effectively articulate when he wished to be, during the years of his Presidency he was known (Issue: December 1985)..

🤣

SionnachRuadh · 19/09/2025 15:29

That's very funny.

If you look sometime at the Latter Day Saints subreddit, you frequently encounter people who can't be older than about 21 (you can tell because they talk about their missionary service) who talk like they were born when Eisenhower was President.

A family member of Lance has stated the whole family were already very scared of him and has now claimed that he radicalised Tyler. Interesting.

flopsyuk · 19/09/2025 14:20

Love and hate.

Tyler Robinson called Lance 'Love' in the exchange published and went out of his way to try and clear him from being implicated in the shooting.

The more that comes out the more light is being shone on furry culture.

Apparently he played furry porn games and associated with artists who do cartoons of underage furries etc.

Not surprising to hear about the deranged nature of furries if you frequent GC circles as this has been warned about for years.

"Wow, this group of men who get their rocks off by pushing boundaries and breaking various social norms and taboos sure do give off a creepy vibe..."

"Don't kinkshame! They're not doing anything illegal! Everyone involved is consenting! You're just a prude! What gives you the right to decide what other people wear?!"

"I guess I can't quite justify what seems off about them aside from my gut feeling, and I guess I do like being allowed to wear jeans as a woman. Wait, what's this about 'fur cubs'...? Are those diapers they're wearing...?

TheKeatingFive · 19/09/2025 13:27

Doc Stocks's article in Unherd 😘

https://archive.ph/lIAhz

https://unherd.com/2025/09/toddler-logic-is-poisoning-politics/

The last paragraph is actually quite a lovely eulogy to Charlie Kirk and an indictment of his killer

But it’s tempting to think that it was not just the conservatism that these young people hated about Kirk: it was also that he acted ostentatiously like an adult. He was not frightened of sexual maturity and responsibility; he embraced these things. He actively told people not to give into every passing desire, but to be continent and restrained. He was also able to tolerate opposing viewpoints to his own, without feeling the threat of personal disintegration, or the need to get lost in defensive persecution complexes. Whatever else you think about the content of his particular belief system, these seem like decent qualities to aspire to; and presumably they made resentful, fearful, emotionally delayed adolescents of all ages stamp their feet and hate him all the more.

I think many people need to update their understanding of different subcultures on both the left and right. I often see people falling into these traps/fallacies where they have so cleanly linked a behaviour/opinion to left or right that they cannot believe anyone on the other side would do it, and critically, if they are doing it then they must "actually" be on the allocated side.

Like I've had people tell me with a straight face "oh is he a Tory? that really surprises me, I thought he was gay?" Honey have you seen the bar at Conservative party conference at 4am

Gun culture + trans rights + libertarian or separatist views is a fairly well-established combo at this point. If you know anything about this subculture though you would be unlikely to call it right wing. On political-compass quizzes they usually will say left-libertarian.

TheUnusuallyQuerulentMxLauraBrown · 18/09/2025 04:37

Yes, I’m very familiar with Drill music.

But as I said, it’s peers that are the main influence on adolescents. So a middle class white kid in a nice part of Surrey can listen to Drill via internet streaming without ever carrying a knife or being involved in violent crime, whereas the kids who are growing up on the same sorts of London council estates as the Drill artists themselves grew up on, whose brothers and cousins are already involved in gang activity, are far more likely to be involved in crime, including the crimes described in Drill music.

Gang related violence is of course incredibly concerning but it’s not quite the same sort of violence as we are discussing here and has different drivers and underlying causes, which was exactly the sort of clarification Charlie Kirk was trying to make at the moment he was fatally shot.

Yeah, that's a fair point. But I do think on average drill music probably influences more violent crimes than playing Fortnite. But not so much the type we're seeing here. But I think you'd have to already be a bit unstable.

I used to be obsessed with first person shooters and it was more the competitive side I enjoyed. Playing against other teams with my mates etc. Defo encountered more trouble when I stopped gaming as much and started going out drinking and partying.

Many, many people are left wing and right wing, but even in America, politicians expect to go about their business without getting shot.

'Agenda' implies some kind of coherent opinion, but so far I don't think that there is much evidence that TR had one.

You are absolutely right and "agenda" was not the best wording.

But I think we can agree that the motive was principally driven by hate of CK and of CK's views.

Merrymouse · 18/09/2025 18:46

1dayatatime · 18/09/2025 18:41

Alternatively he made have murdered CK in protest against the growing of palm oil in Indonesian rainforests.

But all the current evidence including statements by the killer point towards a left / liberal agenda particularly on gay and transgender issues.

However that won't stop certain posters trying to plant doubts with posts about him being a right wing extremist or mentally unwell or a racist or a fascist etc etc.

'MAGA' and 'left wing' can both be used as short hand to explain or excuse a rift that has a more painful or shameful root.

1dayatatime · 18/09/2025 18:41

nauticant · 18/09/2025 18:30

Some strong Trump supporters view mainstream Republicans as being on the Left. (That's not a comment on where TR might lie on a Left-Right spectrum.)

I'll wait till the evidence comes out at trial. If it shows TR was decidedly Left wing that would be no skin off my nose.
