FFS the rape happened at 8.30 in the morning. I don't know why that has shocked me so much. Daylight and safety and bad people (men) being inside until much later maybe.

In that case, it's important to recognise the misogyny but also homophobia involved.

The Rotherham victims were targeted partly bc they were white. That's important to know isn't it?

Saying there was a racial motive doesn't mean it wasn't misogynistic. It was BOTH.

We have genuine immigrantion problems here, but we also have a racism increase, it's not all reasonable protest. As feminists, we can acknowledge all those facts and oppose all harm to women, while also being aware of aggravating factors.

As the mother of a visibly Sikh female child, this has broken my heart. That someone could hate us based on our religion and skin colour so much that they would actively cause us such harm. I wish this young lady well. Oldbury has quite a few Sikhs living there and I can imagine the impact this has had on people’s fears for their safety.

Thing is, Sikhs are generally peaceful and integrate well, so the attackers are likely to be staunch racists who don't like anybody that's isn't white. I don't think I've ever heard anybody complain about Sikh immigration because generally they start businesses and work hard.

I do understand the theories about power etc, I was actually responding to a comment and trying to suggest a reason why some people may struggle to grasp some of the motivations behind rape.

Because rape is not actually about sex. It’s about power and control . That’s where the vast majority of the arousal/satisfaction comes from.

Well, considering many of the posts on here, yes!

The same concept applies to assaults and murder so I don’t understand why some posters struggle with it being applied in the case of rape too.
