Guardian article about periods does not mention girls or women ONCE

Back in the day, the G used to explain/justify their style guide regularly, on grounds of logic, fairness, etc. But I'd like to see anyone claim that talking about 'men' when the topic is prostate cancer, and 'people' when the topic is breast cancer, or maternity, etc, is fair and equitable.

And yeah, I know they'd come out with some shit about men can get breast cancer too. But that's just a fig-leaf.

Also, if I'm getting this right, a 'queer woman' could be heterosexual, no? So not a lesbian.

There are some cases of XO/XY mosaic resulting in a male but it's very very rare. As far as classic XO some doctors consider it intersex and not a "true woman"

By definition, Turner syndrome only affects women.

I have XO karyotype and have periods. Some people wouldn't consider me a woman, I've been told that quite a few times, yet I do have a period.

Bit like the article about 75% of people getting thrush in their lifetime when the study quoted said 75% of women

The only times women and girls are mentioned specifically is when the drs and minister are being directly quoted. The rest of the article (ie the bits the journalist wrote) its all young people and as adults, its a disgraceful attempt at erasing women and girls imho

What an interesting point, thanks MissScarlett. It’s exactly how I felt when I was approaching puberty. Horrified at the boring drudging restricted life that awaited me as a woman. Then Women’s Liberation happened and the future was transformed. How sad that girls face the opposite now: a movement to reduce women’s rights and liberties.

The Guardian should just rename itself The Misogynist.

I was listening to a podcast yesterday about a miscarriage of justice in the US. Part of of the evidence related to the victim of the crime - a girl - and whether she used pads or tampons. The lawyer speaking said 'we have 2 people familiar with periods in our office so I asked them'. So not only are we just people now, we're just people who are familiar with periods.

Well, they should assign us all male, then, shouldn't they? I mean, Duh! What are they up to, condemning us all to a higher likelihood of chronic pain when they could have avoided it. Honestly! Grr.

The Guardian is a notoriously sexist/misogynist paper. I used to read it regularly until it became impossible to ignore the number of 'articles' attacking women.

OOh, yes, I wonder how quickly they will be calling for more female teachers to support poor white girls now that the exam results have changed in favour of boys. Or whether we'll see all the horror about the masculinisation of education. What we should be seeing is horror at the masculinisation of work and destruction of the economic value of traditionally female roles, but clearly, we won't. Yep my work do this too. Enraging. I will eventually say something as the hypocrisy is what gets me about it. They had a thing on our internal comms about getting feedback from "people on maternity leave". The words woman, women or female were not mentioned once.

I went into their policies and OF COURSE the information about paternity leave said man, men, fathers. Enraging.

Quite. Peter Criss, the former drummer in Kiss, is a breast cancer survivor. He's a man's man, so if you wanted a male celebrity to raise awareness, he'd be great at that.

But I don't think that's what the blue fringes have in mind.
