Nobody here wants to treat people differently just because they're trans. That's the whole point. A man who claims to be trans should be treated like any other man.

Whether humans can change sex with hormones is up for debate. Many animals can change sex and the main driver in this is hormonal changes.

I leave that decision to the experts some who agree some who disagree.

However to hate someone or treat someone diffrrrnylh just because they are trans is wrong. That by definition is bigoted and discrimination

Let’s get some actual facts in shall we. The highest number of shootings by a mile are committed by men. This anti-woman agenda by the media which says that some of these men are women is utter nonsense.

whats A cis man? Did you assume the gender of those men? How do you know they weren’t trans?

Let’s get some actual facts in shall we. Since 2016 there have been over 3500 school shootings but only 5 by transwomen/transmen. More women than transwomen have committed mass shootings but the highest number by a mile are straight cis men. (97% by straight cis men). This anti trans agenda by the far right is utter nonsense.

I love that the policy of many police forces now is not to name these people and give them a notoriety that transcends the identity of their victims, but prioritising the perps’s pronouns when making editorial decisions is, well, pretty despicable. This was a crime carried out by a mentally ill white male aged 23. Those are the salient facts at this stage.

I would be interested to understand whether there was familial neglect/abuse, a history of bullying that may have shaped and damaged him or contributed to his MH issues, because understanding this may help schools and communities to identify future potential shooters though - does the US have a Prevent style programme, for example that this young people can be referred to to ensure they are given psychiatric help as a matter of urgency? If not, do they need one?

The BBC knows the sex of the shooter. There is no other authority like a court to blame for pronoun use. Minneapolis Police have asked media to stop using the shooter's name to deny him the reward of notoriety.

Yet the BBC takes it upon themselves to 'respect' his prounouns.

I hope they give a full explanation of how they came to this decision.

Sadly she has more stripes than a zebra on her forearms, the red scar type, but we had a meeting with the student disability folk today as she has managed to work her way into uni next month. Proud doesn’t touch the surface of what I feel about the way she has crawled her way back through access courses and UCAS applications. She is beyond excited about all the equipment (laptops, printers, extra screens) they are willing to provide to accommodate her ASD/ADHD and is bouncing around the house this evening on a high. The trans trauma is very much part of her, but she is over the moon to be able to put that in her past and move forward with a fresh start. She is still uncomfortable with her body and how she is perceived by others, but baby steps…

Especially as he himself said he felt it was ‘a charade’.

Heartbreaking. It’s why we, as a family, never affirmed our trans child’s identity. We recognised that autistic/neurodivergent minds can be very rigid and fixed for extensive periods of time but need to be allowed space to U-turn, mature, re-evaluate without stigma. My DD was adamant SHE was a trans male for 6-7 years. Space to grow, without judgement, meant she was able to recant the idea of being trans without loss of face. Whether you are dealing with people who are politically brainwashed, trans identified, cult-captured on a religious level, we need to create a culture where people know they can change their minds, change direction, disavow religion/beliefs safely… THAT is the hallmark of an inclusive, accepting culture. One that allows people to change and grow, to explore and experiment without judgment. This sad young man was cornered because he felt he wasn’t allowed to admit that maybe the trans thing had been a phase.

People come out fighting when they're cornered. In the US ‘fighting’ often means armed with semi-automatic weapons.

The Times has an interesting update, if true:

“I only keep [the long hair] because it is pretty much my last shred of being trans. I am tired of being trans, I wish I never brain-washed myself. I can’t cut my hair now as it would be an embarrassing defeat, and it might be a concerning change of character that could get me reported. It just always gets in my way. I will probably chop it on the day of the attack.”

I mean, the BBC news website obscuring the language on the whole with "they" and "the attacker" and the odd "she" was one thing, but I never thought they'd actually say "her" about that murdering scumbag, out loud, on the telly, for a primetime audience.

I can't believe the BBC Six O'Clock News, their flagship programme, called him 'she' in their news report.
I actually feel quite tearful they've fallen so far.
Worked in their newsroom for 30 odd years, Warrington bombing, Shipman, Bulger. I just can't defend it in any way, shape or form. I was so proud to work there too.
And it will be a decision made right at the top of management. Absolutely devastated by it.

That is interesting if it has been correctly transcribed and is truly his diary, because, as another poster said, it would be a classic example of how wrong it is to ‘affirm’ teens who believe they are ‘trans’.
