Seen this on a number of threads on facebook, and wondered if it was true?

Kellie Jay had a public reconciliation with a gc woman recently, at a Let women speak event, I can’t remember who- can anyone help me?

Filia sounds tedious. Good that they're GC, but a dull purity spiral beyond that.

I know, I know. But that's the problem with feminism isn't it - full of these po-faced boring women. Doing boring things like setting up campaigns to reform the Hague Convention to support women fleeing domestic violence, and tediously organising to get lesbians out of the Kakuma refugee camp where they were being persecuted, and yawningly running a lesbian book club, petitioning for the release of a secularist feminist in Morocco, starting up a trade union women's network - why can't they just let their hair down and have some FUN, amirite?

SouthWamses · 31/08/2025 08:48

Trump is an example of someone who understands sex matters but is very definitely not gender critical!

Who was it who said ‘The left see women as public property, the right see women as private property’?

Trump is bad for women’s right but Harris would have obliterated them. The democrats were/are determined to destroy the very category ‘woman’ and the language used to describe it.

KJK supports Tommy Robinson, invites the far right to take part at her events, goes on YouTube channels of known white nationalists and goes up to women with veiled faces and has a go at them. You're telling me she's not racist? Yeah, right. Hmm

Edited

I'm no fan of KJK, but she did one interview on one youtube channel with someone about feminism, she had no idea of the man's views on white nationalism. What you are doing is accusing Guilt by Association. We've all unknowingly associated with someone with unsavoury views. It doesn't make us guilty. It's just smear for smear sake at this point.

No, I'm critical of KJK. My assessment of you is based on this thread and your nonsensical posts.

Do you want to go back and read what I actually posted? I really don't understand why you think I'm a sock. I posted that I remember when she was banned from mumsnet and referred to a personal communication I had with her which was abusive. Nothing I've posted on this thread could logically be described as 'nonsensical'.

Tbf, right wing men aren't a monolith. Some might support feminism. Even the kind of conservative Christians who want women to submit to their husbands may still have been anti-TWAW not simply to keep women in a box, but out of genuine concern for the danger, lies & humiliation this caused, among other reasons.

Yes, absolutely agree. I think I referenced that in my earlier post better.

It’s just Trump I have the issue with because he’s truly a terrible human…but he has helped the GC cause. I can acknowledge that while still not believing that he gives a jot about women’s rights.

He’s certainly not representative of all right-wing men. I may not agree with their other politics but that doesn’t mean there isn’t some decent folk right of centre. Trump absolutely isn’t though. He’s a pig of a man.

Here’s an early quote from someone who goes: I don’t think it’s true FiLiA is some kind of elite thing though, definitely not if you go. There’s so many women there from all over the world, and most are grassroots activists doing stuff to do with male violence. It’s not really about the big names, such as they are. I don’t think they are setting themselves up to define what other people must find important or to represent what women’s rights are either - it’s just a gathering of women who care about similar issues. No one is forced to attend!
if this is tedious, then sign me up for tedious please.

If FILIA are no platforming her, then I’m done with FILIA. KJK is the only
prominent figurehead who platforms ALL women.

But they aren’t, so you’re all good.

I only just caught up on this thread but wanted to mention the whole Trump issue.

I agree with a PP - sorry, forgotten your name 🤦🏻‍♀️ - that actually it is really important that we are meticulously fair in acknowledging when the other side has done something that’s good. If we don’t do that, we’re no better than the TRAs.

Trump has been fantastic in reversing some of the gender ideology laws in the US and rolling back some of the damage that’s been done. There will be a very real impact for women in the US and particularly girls in college.

My very big difficulty is that I don’t believe he’s done it because he cares about women’s rights. Even setting aside his personal issues of being a rapist and stating freely that you can just “grab them by the pussy”, he’s done unspeakable damage to women in so many other ways with his policies.

He’s only acted on the gender issue because right-wing men want to keep women in a box, plus Trump is astute enough to see it was an issue he could capitalise on.

I can acknowledge that he has put policies in place that benefit women who were suffering from gender woo nonsense, while still believing that he is a deeply misogynistic, sexist bully who has very few redeeming personal qualities. I think on balance he does more harm than good to women, despite how he’s acted on the issue of gender.

I completely understand how women in the US must have felt real despair on election day. Both sides were terrible for women.

Because of all of the above, I understand why someone would celebrate Trump’s actions on gender but given the great damage he causes to women in other ways, no one who cares about women’s rights could be a diehard Trump fan. Celebrate the policies yes but not the man.

Don't crap on all they do. They seem to have some issues w this no-playforming. But they do a LOT of good
. I have a lesbian pen pal in Prague who has a horrible time since all the lesbian groups there have become "queer' and are dominated by bicurious women (if that) & their bfs, plus buy TWAW. I recommended her Labrys Lit, the book club FILIA runs over Zoom the last Sunday of every month, w a great selection of books. It has members from all over the world, including places where lesbians have a lot of persecution, (nlt saying it's easy here). There's far too few organisations like that.
I don't know a lot about their other activities, but I'm pretty sure they do quite a lot of other stuff as well.

Well don't GCs all believe in freedom of speech, by definition, since it's the illiberalism of suppressing speech which necessitated the need for a GC movement in the first place?

Only as much as any group does in a free society. It is not illiberalism that necessitates a gender critical movement; it is patriarchy and misogyny. I take it you are very new to this?

Sex is why women are oppressed and gender is how women are oppressed. Gender is the harmful construct that says women must act, dress and take specific roles. And men ditto. Gender ideology says women are women because of the way they act, dress and roles not because of their sex. These gender expectation oppress women eg by requiring them to take on more of the mental load and housework, by suggesting that women cannot vote, be leaders, by saying women should wear clothes that restrict us (eg heels), by presenting us as sex objects for men. Gender criticism is criticism of this construct. It says that women are women purely because of our sex and everything else is bullshit. That we must have the vote, be paid equally to men for the same work, be given the same opportunities in the workplace, that men should take an equal share of housework, that women must not be presented as sexual objects for the benefit of men. Sex matters only in respect of biological (pregnancy, breastfeed) and differences in physiology (sport and privacy, dignity and safety). You cannot be a feminist unless you are critical of gender.

No that is not what gender critical means 🤦‍♀️. That is believing in freedom of speech.

SouthWamses · 30/08/2025 23:38

It sounds like there needs to be a fringe event to give women a chance to hear speakers not sufficiently aligned with Filia’s position.

I'm not quite sure I understand what's going on. Is Sheila Jeffreys suggesting that she's being excluded from FiLiA because she asked to be a speaker in 2025 and they said no? Which is what that link suggests. I'd always understood that FiLiA had a policy of only letting well known figures appear two or three FiLiAs running, and I think Sheila Jeffreys has been platformed pretty much every single FiLiA so far, so definitely time for her to let someone else take that spot.

Super that she's doing her book launch nearby though as it means lots of women will be local and wanting to do both.

Apparently Sheila and Fiona of Sex Matters aren't here invited to specific sessions related to both of their books? That's what I'm seeing on X.

Same reason the grooming gangs were allowed to continue , because it was racist to talk about them , let alone arrest them

SouthWamses · 30/08/2025 22:53

AliasGrace47 · 30/08/2025 22:28

Exactly. I thought the whole point of being GC was the freedom to criticise any idea or person without fear or favour.

If you are on facebook the comments to this statement are really good and interesting raising lots of points.

And the fact that WDI are having an "alternative"(?) or side meeting around the corner from FiLia. Have now fact checked.

It is about another "excluded" speaker from a previous FiLia https://womensdeclarationinternational.telltix.com/events/womensdeclarationinternational/1738199 called excluded but silenced
