What nurses have to put up with. His poor wife (although that word's not used*), his poor kids

I'm a non-binary parent but have had to accept being called 'Daddy' | Metro News https://share.google/CdGfmxVnizOeyxBbe

Admittedly, when we arrived at the delivery suite on Tuesday night I did tell the lead midwife that my pronouns are they/them

Of course he did.

The whole article is worth a read, simultaneously hilarious, jawdropping and troubling. I thought he could put it on stage at the next Fringe, it'd bring the house down. It's hard to believe it wasn't ghost written by Glinner as a pisstake.

*hopefully they're not married °so leaving this self obsessed bloke will be easier.

°how would that go anyway? 'I now pronoun you wife and....erm!'

I'm a non-binary parent but have had to accept being called 'Daddy'

I wish that society could be more inclusive towards trans and non-binary folks especially as it pertains to parenthood.

I'd already read that article. They go along with social convention for the sake of the children.

What's wrong with that? Surely that's what the GC want?

SquishedMallow · 26/08/2025 12:27

Please make it stop 😫

ArabellaScott · 26/08/2025 12:27

OP, I refuse to believe that's not satire. You can't fool me!

Scout2016 · 26/08/2025 12:26

I hope he showed up to the hospital wearing all that pink like in his photos, to show those unobservant medics how much he rejects gender stereotypes.

If his kids are anything like the ones I know he's in for tears as it's hit and miss what you get called. I have lost count how many times I have been called daddy. Or just a friend's name.

And what does he think a birth certificate is? It's not his document, it's the child's and it's a legal record of who they came from. Of course there is no "none of the above, I'm so much more special than those options" box.

ItsFineReally · 26/08/2025 12:25

I wish that we as a society had already established gender-neutral parent words which everyone is aware of.

You mean, like 'parent'? Which you use quite happily throughout the article.

ArabellaScott · 26/08/2025 12:24

I did tell the lead midwife that my pronouns are they/them

Did ye, aye?

Biffatcrafts · 26/08/2025 12:23

If I'd been that neonatal medic I'd have probably said ‘Your sperm source is right here for you, okay?,’

But that would probably not have worked for him either 🤔 😂😂

Coatsoff42 · 26/08/2025 12:17

I enjoyed reading this story so much. It is wild how self centred this man is. Most expectant fathers are worried childbirth will be a bloodbath and the mother/baby might suffer or die, worst case scenario stuff, while they stand there like a helpless spare part.

But not this delight! He’s the main character in this scenario. His identity is his first thought.
I imagine this story following him around for years and years as documented evidence of what a massive self-centred knob he is.

Igmum · 26/08/2025 12:15

Haven’t even read the article yet and already I want to advise her to LT(N)B.

AsTreesWalking · 26/08/2025 12:09

He sounds like hard work. Knob.

"Many institutions still assume they will be dealing with a woman as the mother and a man as the father, with no room for grey areas"

Bit of a straw man there. There are many women who give birth without the biological father of their child present, perhaps alone for many reasons, perhaps with a same sex spouse or partner , or with another supporter, mother, sister. Midwives and other staff are very used to finding out who is in the room and their relationship to the birthing mother and giving due respect to that, no one expects all parturiants to be one year into a heterosexual marriage, with a Barrett starter home and top tier of wedding cake in the fridge.

However all birthing women are of necessity females, and all biological fathers are by default males. Ignoring this reality to dance around the solipsistic delusions of a male parent/father/partner who is prioritising the nitpicking details of his identity choices over the amazing reality of becoming a parent seems a bit of a distraction for staff, who's primary focus is the labouring woman & mother-baby dyad.

SirChenjins · 26/08/2025 12:03

Did he not feel special enough growing up and now needs the pronouns to validate himself?

Tosser.

MummytoE · 26/08/2025 12:02

Just thinking of the child when they grow up -
" mummy and theyday, tell me about the day I was born"...
" Well your mum was having back to back unmedicated contractions...but I was called SIR!!!. was just awful!!""

Self indulgent nonsense

In ante natal classes they explained that midwife care is woman centered, and the role of the birthing partner is to support the woman giving birth. Do they not do that bit any more?

There weren't even NHS antenatal classes for me 20 years ago because the men "didn't like the breathing exercises" according to my midwife.

Nct classes at the time were wonderful.

ihavespoken · 26/08/2025 12:01

Fucking hell that is hilarious. What a nob

murasaki · 26/08/2025 12:01

Well if he's not the daddy, that's a conversation he needs to have with the mother.....

AI answer to use of title midwife
😳

can you imagine in the throws of giving birth you’d have to shout
i need the lead perinatal practitioner 🤣🤣🤣

LoudlyProudlyHorrid · 26/08/2025 12:00

"Any discussion around correctly gendered parent names could wait until my babies had been safely delivered and my partner was okay.

So, despite the inevitability, when the neonatal medic called me ‘daddy’ for the first time, it took me by surprise.

Part of me wanted to correct her, but I was far too sleep deprived and my focus was on stepping into my role as parent and looking after my babies. "

It sounds like he's just about clinging to reality by his fingertips. Well done Tom in realising it's not all about you! Keep going!

Why would any woman let they/them impregnate her, that’s the last thing you need when you’ve got a new baby!

I have little sympathy for the "allies". You reap what you sow. It's the child who is to be pitied, growing up with a narc parent.

I read it and just wondered why he does not seem to be profoundly embarrassed at writing such tosh.

I think this is perhaps the result of a child-centred upbringing where, additionally, the child must never be told "no" of that they might be wrong. Solipsism plus unwavering certainty in the importance and truth of whatever nonsense you come up with.

"I realised I was non-binary and came out in early 2017, at the start of a wave of lots of other people realising the same thing. I was 25 and had a brief period of unemployment, living back at home with my parents, which gave me time to be introspective and figure out who I was"

He has pink hair you know!

'I was unemployed, bored, and had my parents doing everything for me so I spent way too much time online to fill my days - but it's my real self, honest!'
