TiM wonders if he's a 'hypocrite' for requesting all-female care

There's a fascinating range of opinions on a Reddit thread today in response to a trans-identifying man who wonders if he's being a hypocrite for asking for (and receiving) female-only care at a hospital appointment.

He write:

Am I a hypocrite for asking to be treated by female staff?
I've now got this uncomfortable feeling that I might have sounded like one of those middle-aged pearl clutching GC 'feminists'. It's bothering me a bit.

Some answers:

Matters of personal comfort in this regard do not necessarily reflect your political views.

And:

There is a massive difference between "I personally would feel more comfortable with a female member of staff" vs. "No woman should ever be treated by a male member of staff"

They so nearly nearly almost almost get the point, don't they?

I won't post a link here, because I suspect that's frowned-upon, but you'll find it easily enough.

The poster is silent on whether having other TiM's providing the care would or wouldn't but count as all-female, but I'm wondering what that person would make of a medical team made up of (assuming they had the correct medical qualifications):

Isla Bryson
Dr. Upton
This person
and Robin Moira Wright

Would that be satisfactory?

Another question: do men in general have the right to female-only care, that is, is it single-sex care everyone can request or only same-sex care?

Yet another question: does anyone in the all-female team rostered the day this person is receiving treatment get a choice in who's allowed to request their care?

There’s another thread running about the same Reddit thread.

Not sure why he needs so many pelvic scans unless he went the chop and has infections and complications.

Oh FFS 🤦‍♀️. No mate, you don’t sound like a pearl clutching middle aged woman, you sound like a misogynistic entitled male who would like a harem of affirming handmaidens.

Beautifully put.
