Jesus, is nowhere safe from this shit?

I hope JKR’s lawyers are cracking our their very best “terse letter” pens this morning.

No, I've never dated a guy from the US.

And what is there to be envious of, exactly? You couldn't pay me to go on holiday there, let alone live there.

"You couldn't pay me to go on holiday there, let alone live there."

Well, we are agreed on that, TBF. Ellen had the right idea, leaving for the cotswalds.
Not gonna lie, life here isn't great right now...

...which should be a wakeup for you guys across the pond. Seriously, WTF are you doing with your voting? You carry on like this and you're gonna get a Trump as well.

Were you cheated on by a guy from the US by any chance? I'm just curious about all this anti-Americanism you have.

Or is it just the classic envy you Brits have because your empire is gone and we're in charge?

Genuinely interested.

There it is, was just waiting for the "we're in charge" bullshit. Also, it's Labour with a u. Hth.

Greyskybluesky · 29/08/2025 15:58

This poster reminds me of the "black pampers", i.e. those young lads in masks who turn up to feminist events and are angry at women and clearly have mummy issues. Oh and are seeking a shit ton of attention.

This poster clearly has Brit issues. JKR is just the "in".

Yes, I know you say that in your country.

Have you missed the general theme of my recent posts, which is that people in your country are not very bright?

Says the lady from the island that did brexit 🙄
And voted in your labor right-wingers 🙄
And paint their roads with flags 🙄
And are going to vote president Farage in 🙄
Etc., etc., etc.

In my country we say "could care less". You'd know that if you ever ventured out of your echo chamber.

Sure, you Brits have your own sayings and, TBH, most of them don't make a whole pile of sense, but that's the glory of the evolving nature of language.

Ironic, on a thread started about DL, I'm sure you'll agree. Honey. 😉

Obviously she's not a Democrat. She doesn't vote in the US, and if she did she wouldn't have anyone to vote for since the Democrats are far too right wing for her.

By the way, it's "couldn't care less".

"Couldn't" means "could not".

"I couldn't care less" means it is not possible for you to care less about something than you already do, which is what you are trying to say.

"I could care less" means you do care at least a little bit.

Whoever said your queen was right-wing?
I think you might be getting confused again.

Mind you, she ain't exactly a Democrat either, so there's that. Personally, I could care less about her. Just going by what's online about her and boy is there a lot of 💩she's doing.

God yes.

Donating hundreds of thousands so that female lawyers can escape Afghanistan.

Setting up and funding a women's refuge.

Funding the Anne Rowling Regenerative Neurology Clinic and Lumos

And a new book out next week.

She has of course been politically active for a long time, and made her views clear on Brexit, Scottish Independence and the Labour Party.

She definitely does a lot of shit!

maybe we're all deluded in some way - wouldn't surprise me with both our countrys in the states their in right now

Yikes, honey, maybe if you're going to call Mumsnet users total imbeciles you might want to check your spelling and grammar before hitting post. You wouldn't want us to draw any conclusions about the state of the education system in America now, would you?

And no, I have not just described Mumsnet.

Mumsnet is a site for women of all ages, but heavily skewed towards British women who have had at least one child. There are literally millions of us.

This means:

  • We understand our own political system much better than you do. That means we understand that a woman who has donated millions of pounds to the Labour Party, elects to remain fiscally domiciled in the UK and pay tax on her vast income in full without using any avoidance schemes, campaigned against Scottish independence and for the UK to remain in the European Union, has donated over 200 million to various charitable causes and has consistently championed the rights of women, children, gay people, people from minority ethnicities and religions and people with disabilities, is not "far right". We also understand that our political right is still to the left of your political left.
  • We have lived experience of pregnancy, childbirth, postpartum and, in many cases, the menopause, and we understand that no male person has ever had nor ever will have these experiences. Many of us have experienced discrimination in employment and the workplace due to the motherhood penalty, or the reality of becoming a single mother who is the resident parent to her small children and discovering that the odds are entirely stacked against her, being unable to move to a different part of the country or take a better job with longer hours if her children's father will not cooperate, but also being unable to force him to pay his fair share towards the cost of raising his children. We have experienced miscarriages, stillbirths, birth injuries, and so much more. And so when we are told that this man is now a woman because that is how he identifies, and that because he is "living as a woman" we must welcome him into our toilets, changing rooms and miscarriage support groups, our instinctive reaction is not, "Yeah, sounds legit", but "In what possible way does he imagine he is living as a woman?"
  • Most of us were safely through the vulnerable, impressionable teenage and young adult years before all this gender identity nonsense came along from America, which is why we haven't fallen for it hook, line and sinker. We weren't born yesterday.
  • Some of us have children born at just the wrong moment, who are incredibly vulnerable to it. We have seen our children become consumed by it, we've seen the social contagion ripping through their schools like wildfire and we are alarmed by it. We've been gaslit and treated like bigots for objecting to boys sharing changing rooms with our daughters at school or sleeping accommodation with them on school trips or at Guide camp. Never mind that there should not even be any boys at Guide camp. So yes, those of us who are mothers to children who have fallen prey to this ideology have a lot of skin in the game. And those of us with younger children are watching, informing ourselves, praying that the craze will have burned itself out by the time our children are older, and preparing ourselves for what to do if it hasn't.

So yes, completely unsurprisingly, you will encounter a healthy dose of scepticism towards this gender identity shit on Mumsnet.

But it is not an echo chamber. Because you are here. And other people who also buy into all this shit are here. People who spend their days on here posting about how bigoted we all are for not wanting any man to be able to self ID into our spaces and sports, who openly admit that a certain number of women and girls being harmed by trans identifying males is acceptable collateral damage for those men being allowed to have what they want, without ever specifying what they think that number should be. And trans people are here. Some of them are respectful, some of them less so.

None of you are banned. None of you have been booted off the site for expressing a different opinion. Because we don't feel threatened by your opinions.

Probably why the guy in charge of Duo is laying off the staff and moving to AI. Cba with all the trantrums.

AI reliance is a real bad move, IMO. Have you chatted to Grok recently? Seriously, stay away from that stuff!

JKR is a leading left wing feminist and noted philanthropist. Idiot Americans claiming her to be a right wing bigot are only displaying their utter ignorance.

Because it was/is the prevailing attitude online - whether rightly or wrongly - and DL's bots just scooped that up and dumped it into their app without any human invention then they removed it in a panic when called out.

Seriously, don'tcha actually read?

Or, maybe, DL staff did include it themselves? Who knows? Don't change facts though, does it?

prevailing attitude online

I think that might be the difference - online vs offline.

"I suspect most people are only vaguely aware of what she has said."

DuoLingo seems pretty sure, given this thread topic!

Somebody at DuoLingo clearly doesn't like JKR, but I don't think their action risked much money, and I doubt that many people are even aware of what they did.

On the other hand HBO are investing billions into a multi year project that is very clearly tied to JKR.

SeinfeldsMom · 29/08/2025 15:34

DarlingHoldMyHand · 29/08/2025 15:29

Yeah right. If they were that sure why are they apologising and removing that content 🤷‍♀️

Duolingo keeps telling me there's a bear trying on a dress and a duck in my shower. I think it's regurgitating rubbish. If it's 'educating' itself off the Web it will be skewed tra. Many places; reddit, the Guardian, don't allow GC voices to be heard. You'd have to be an imbecile to take a green owl as an authoritative voice on anything.

I don't think it can be that mainstream - otherwise HBO wouldn't be investing so much money in the HP reboot.

I suspect most people are only vaguely aware of what she has said.

Similarly, I keep seeing a picture of Angela Rayner in an inflatable dinghy, but I just don't have the interest to find out why.

MissScarletInTheBallroom · 29/08/2025 14:40

Yeah, I thought so.

The view that JK Rowling is "a repulsive human being" might be mainstream among Democrat voting Americans who don't have a Scooby Doo about anything that goes on outside their borders, but it's not the same in other countries.

In the UK it really is just people in trans activist echo chambers who consume too much American nonsense who hold that view. Most people either wholeheartedly agree with her or don't give a shit either way.
