If you don't think she is please don’t post. Please can you tell me specifically what she has said or done that is so bad. I promise that I will listen and not argue. If you could include links that would be great. If your inclination is to assume that I’m posting in bad faith and any reasonably well informed person must be stupid or bigoted not to know, then please just let the thread die.

I'm also a bit agog at the amount of posters who seem to think it's their right to decide what she uses her platform/spends her money on.

Richard Branson, Bill Gates and Sir Tom Hunter do loads for charity and good causes but I don't see anyone policing their efforts.

Vaxtable · 18/08/2025 10:09

All you have to do is look on the internet, you can then make your own mind up. Look at her X account, or read articles she publishes in papers or response to people

she had done nothing bad shes fighting for safe places for women

DialSquare · 18/08/2025 10:08

She can’t win. As a PP said, she tried ignoring them so they spammed her feed with porn. Now, according to some, she’s not responding to them in the right way.

Personally, I’m in the “when they go low, go lower” camp. In my experience, the high road isn’t all it’s it’s cracked up to be when it comes to certain behaviours.

Why 'should' she?
Why does he 'deserve' respect?
Because he is a man?!

No, because he selflessly gave up everything he had - his career and family, to allow himself more time on X to fight this evil ideology.

Mmmnotsure · 18/08/2025 10:08

Why has this thread been hived off into Feminism: S&G? It started in Chat (? I think).

It is about one high-profile person, and addresses different areas. Much of the discussion has been about charity work including donations to medical research.

Are we not allowed to discuss anything on the 'main' boards.

She could be using her platform for good, instead she uses it to target marginalised and vulnerable groups and attack them repeatedly. Not just transgender people, cis-women who appear too "manly", asexuals and anyone who doesn't agree with her stance.

There's also a lot of racist stereotypes in the Harry Potter books, and they're not at all well-written. All the ideas are stolen and they are full of plot holes. There are no openly gay characters but she's tried to curry favour with the gay community by randomly going back and naming characters as gay, despite no evidence of them being gay when she wrote it. It all comes across as calculated and fake.

If you don't believe that trans people are really the gender they say they are, you're probably able to overlook all that.

The irony of posing as a man in order to write books about how people shouldn't present as the opposite gender will never stop being ridiculous.

I won't be arguing further about it on this thread or anywhere else- you asked and I answered.

My toes have just turned inside out for you.

I'm not Graham, but you know that.

I take it that you don't agree she's deliberately ignoring him for some unknown reason?

It's starting to come across as cruel and intentional at this stage.

I reiterate she’s not his Mum. She’s under no obligation to acknowledge him, or anybody else.

Helleofabore · 18/08/2025 09:19

Could you post some of the links to her ‘anti-trans’ posts please.

The OP did want to see the evidence rather than just general accusations.

Yes, I'd be interested to see all this proof too please.

I'll even hold my breath whilst I wait, because surely anyone who confidently makes this claim won't take long to deliver the proof.

AccidentallyWesAnderson · 18/08/2025 10:05

It’s coming up to years now, both on here and the rare times now in real life thankfully that anyone calls her a big transphobe, where I’ve asked for evidence of any transphobia and I’ve yet to get any.

Helleofabore · 18/08/2025 10:05

I think that to some people, they think the JK Rowling is sitting there responding to every abusive post she gets.

No. She isn't.

If you actually take the time to check, you will see she responds to abusive posts that are from male people who have influence on policy or who have been relentless in their abuse of her.

She also will highlight situations that she believes needs to be discussed. Considering the current pervasive issues that we have with the BBC, she also will highlight issues in how issues and incidents are reported.

I think people wish to see what they hold a prejudice to expect to see and perhaps the issue is theirs and not JK Rowling's.

I’m always interested when people tone police JKR.

The tone of her opponents is truly vile- gratuitously abusive and often Violent. When she posts a sharp take down of someone else, check out their posts too.

Then, balance up the need for tone policing.

If you find that hard, ask yourself why you are holding her to a significantly higher standard than them.

I hold her to a high standard precisely because she has such reach, influence and visibility on social media.

@Cutleryclaire Have you read the other reviews of Nicola's book? I've yet to see one that has anything good to say about it.

justteanbiscuits · 18/08/2025 10:03

Graham Linehan is no hero. He is a disgusting, awful man who is one of the few I reserve outright disgust and hatred for. He does not support women. Being so vehemently against trans people does not equal support for women.

I also find this completely wild. The problem is always her response, not what she is responding to. Which is usually vile.

C95 · 18/08/2025 10:00

115 posts and not one thread of evidence of her "anti-trans".

Plenty of evidence of the amazing charity work she funds.

I completely understand the OPs reason for thread. And reading the replies just confirms how uninformed TRAs.

But if we have to post a negative comment, I would say I really don't like her baiting India. I wish she would just grey rock him.

Every time she posts about him he gets more publicity. Let him just disappear into obscurity. Pleeeeeeese.

Rowling tweeted support for Maya Forstater, the expression of whose views constitute harassment and victimisation of transwomen and discrimination against them.

Rowling spoke out against a Devex article for using the phrase "people who menstruate" instead of "women". She stated that denying the reality of biological sex erases the experiences of women worldwide and eliminates the possibility of same-sex attraction. Harassment etc, as above.

Rowling published an essay on her personal website in 2020 in which she revealed that she was a survivor of domestic abuse and sexual assault, and stated that "When you throw open the doors of bathrooms and changing rooms to any man who believes or feels he's a woman...then you open the door to any and all men who wish to come inside". This conflates TW with male predators.

Rowling argues that adults are promoting an ideology that is harmful to children, and claims the term cisgender is "ideological language signifying belief in the unfalsifiable concept of gender identity." Thus denying the existence of trans people and fulminating against healthcare for them.

She is a hypocrite who claims that her beliefs arise out of a sincere concern for transgender people, and in particular, young transgender men.

Rowling opposes legislation to advance gender self-recognition and enable transition without a medical diagnosis.

She also voiced opposition to the Scottish Gender Recognition Reform Bill, aimed at allowing transgender people to change their legal gender more easily and subsequently she donated £70,000 to the legal challenge brought by For Women Scotland against the Scottish Ministers in the UK Supreme Court, which, on 16 April 2025, ruled that the legal definition of a woman in the UK Equality Act 2010 is based on biological sex.

In response to Edinburgh's rape crisis centre being run by a trans woman, Rowling established a sexual assault crisis centre, Beira's Place in December 2022 that excludes trans women.

In response to a fan praising this decision, Rowling tweeted "Merry Terfmas".

Rowling has also expressed her opposition to the Hate Crime and Public Order (Scotland) Act 2021, and when this went into effect in April 2024, she deliberately misgendered several transgender women to challenge the new law.

TLDR

She doesn't believe that humans can change sex.

i find it hard to find fault with the things that you list. To my mind they are ways JKR has enriched lives , many of them women’s lives but also the lives of children and people with chronic and debilitating illness. I don’t understand the problem you are finding with this.

Two points of information .

Beira’s place does not admit any biological men , which of course includes Trans Identifying Men, as it is a safe place for female victims of male violence.

People cannot change sex. If you don’t believe me may I refer you to Professor Lord Robert Winston, Emeritus Professor at Imperial College, who knows more about the immutability of sex than possibly any other human being on the planet and who says it is impossible. I think you are confusing the social concept of “gender” with the biological reality of sex.

justteanbiscuits · 18/08/2025 10:00

I believe the language she uses is deliberately divisive a inflammatory. She deliberately tries to hurt people, and I find that horrible. You can support a cause, have strong beliefs, without making out others are ignorant, or mentally ill. When I asked her, straight out, if she supported all women what ever their POV on the trans issue, she said no, she only supports the women who agree with her. Which is her right, but she says it so nastily.

I think it is her use of such cruel language that gets peoples backs up and upsets them. And her support for Kelly Jay Keane who is truly an awful horrible person - she has said she will flatten women who don't agree with her.

I respect everyone's right to support causes and hold opinions. I don't support peoples right to be cruel and nasty to any group of people who exist legally.

My only problem with JK Rowling is that she hasn't defended Graham Linehan, until she came along he was the biggest celebrity in this fight and the TRAs took his career, wife and family away from him.

I think she should show him the respect he deserves.

Why 'should' she?
Why does he 'deserve' respect?
Because he is a man?!

I agree. I'm not in favour of trans people taking part in sport in women teams. I'm totally against it, But her anti trans stand borders on hatred which isnt acceptable.

My only 'complaint' is that she lets her wit run away with her sometimes, which may not always be wise - but she is sharp and funny. Maybe by doing that, she attracts unpleasant attention which would otherwise be directed at HJ, MF and other prominent campaigners.

I don't think JKR is perfect, but she is unusual in how much she gives away, and she acts as a shield (for example in her reaction to the hate crime law).

CassOle · 18/08/2025 09:52

ThatCyanSheep · 18/08/2025 08:43

I never said she was embarrassing. Other people have labelled me as that.

I saw a really good post on here a few weeks ago about how there are much, much more pressing issues facing us. Our NHS being stripped, children living in poverty, the cost of living crisis. Things like trans people, the “boat people” etc are used by politicians as a diversion tactic to hide that they’re not doing anything to address the actual issues.

I was originally pointed to a YouTube video by two transwomen talking about her essay when I asked the Q in the OP. It was utter tripe.

Recently, however, the argument I have been given is the one I have quoted. That this is all a 'distraction from bigger issues'. So, JKR isn't actually trying to help women and girls, she is pulling the strings in a Machiavellian way to obfuscate the real threats from the public. Conspiracy theory ahoy!

From this, we know that women and girls having single-sex spaces, intimate care (if requested), prisons, rape crisis centres, etc, is such a teeny-tiny thing that it doesn't matter.

I think her constant posting on SM now comes across as a deep hatred of ALL trans people. There is no longer any light or shade. Lots
of her posts (and posts on here) feel
unnecessarily personal and mocking to me - for example attacking appearance. I think because of this she has become a bit of a caricature now.

Is it ALL trans people though? Or trans women aka men? Boundary pushing men who go into spaces and take sporting places where they have no right to be?

Please show me something where she’s posted about trans men - females?
