If you don't think she is please don’t post. Please can you tell me specifically what she has said or done that is so bad. I promise that I will listen and not argue. If you could include links that would be great. If your inclination is to assume that I’m posting in bad faith and any reasonably well informed person must be stupid or bigoted not to know, then please just let the thread die.

Given that I’m not on X I wouldn’t be retweeting anything about anyone.

I find it interesting that because I asked you for proof of something that you have declared to be true, that your response is to become abusive and have assigned actions to me that are, quite frankly, bizarre. I make my decisions on any given subject based on facts. You declared something that you insisted was factual, I asked you to provide proof and you respond in this manner. I can only assume you are so angry because you have no proof of anything.

I hate when she ends a dramatic situation in HP with...'everything went black and then he woke up in the hospital wing'. It's soooo lazy. (I can't quote specifically but it's basically in every book. Whenever HP gets into a situation with Voldemort/deatheater/triwizard/bludger etc, you'll find it).

Also, (and this is a hill I'm almost prepared to die on) - Quidditch makes NO SENSE. You go to all the effort with the bludgers etc and then the opposing team just have to get the Golden Snitch and suddenly it's game over. So what's the point of all the Quaffles? None! It's so stupid. And even more stupid is all the uni students playing it on broomsticks on foot, (like the hobbyhorse olympics).
At least with JK being cancelled by the younger generation, they are less inclined to participate in the ridiculous charade.

Yet she spends all her time on social media dividing society 🤷🏼‍♀️ it’s clear this thread wasn’t started in good faith asking for actual contributions, so I’m out

She's a writer with a new book coming out at the beginning of next month. Difficult to achieve that if she's spending all her time on social media. Yes, she posts most days on X, but not very much in real terms. However, what she does post has great impact.

But you didn't entirely answer - at the point I've reached in the thread, there are still few to no quotes. Eg. the racist stereotypes - please quote (not just character names, which I can guess at, but the actual words). Genuinely interested.

Cho Chang- (if you want to ignore the fact her name is racist we can do) but a sweet, intelligent Asian girl who cries all the time (we're clearly supposed to forget that her boyfriend just died and Harry jumped right on in there) and has no other character development.

Parvati Patil becomes absorbed by divination early on, seen even in the wizarding world as a nonsense and feeding into "mystical" Asian stereotypes, and Padma just disappears. In the books, they are at least "pretty", which seems to be the only descriptor they really get, but the film undoes that because no-one could be bothered to actually dress them properly and wanted to focus to stay on Hermione.

The Irish characters (Seamus Finnigan, but also Luna after the casting decision was made and signed off explicitly by JK)- one is an idiot who is always blowing something up, the other is a lovable eccentric who believes in a wide range of conspiracy theories and would be a tin-foil hat wearer in the muggle world.

There are very few characters explicitly identified as black in the books but we do have Dean Thomas who JK has said was black although he isn't defined as such in the UK version, which is a problem in itself. He's not too bright, always in trouble and hangs out with Seamus. His Dad left him.

And Kingsley Shacklebolt...do I really need to go into why that's problematic?

Fleur is hyper-sexualised and extremely passionate.

Lavender Brown was black in the film until the filmmakers realised she had some lines, then she was recast as white!

Don't get me started on the hook-nosed, money-obsessed goblins.

As an aside, JK Rowling has explicitly confirmed that lycanthropy was a metaphor for HIV/AIDS. Apparently, likening AIDS sufferers to people who turn into uncontrollable werewolves who attack people in the night was meant to REDUCE stigma.

And finally, if you ask me a question I will answer it but if you're replying to my posts just to insult me, then you are wasting your time as I won't respond to it.

Its obvious that JKR is skeptical about trans ideology. And that skepticism has either grown over time or shes more comfortable with expressing it.

People who are more supportive of trans, either completely or think its more nuanced, have to stop her talking and highlighting the madness.

Nobody cares where she spends her money, how she poses in photos or if she gets on with actors. Shes been rich for 25 years, and its only been since she spoke up about this that anyone has thought about any of these things.

Its that TRA know that if she tweets something, it gets a large audience and one they cant control. And trans isnt like any other issue that becomes more accepted more its debated. It cannot cope with the level of light JKR will bring to it.

“And trans isn’t like any other issue that becomes more accepted ( the) more it’s debated. It cannot cope with the level of light JKR will bring to it”

And there is the absolute truth of the matter. Once people realise that entitled and wicked people with their own negative agendas are calling for

healthy bodies to be mutilated,

children to be given life changing drugs and encouraged to undergo irreversible surgeries and modifications,

people medicated into a life of future health issues that are both painful and debilitating,

mentally ill children lied to and shamed about their sexuality,

people with sexual fetishes using trans ideology to promote their own perversions

it becomes very clear that, whatever the truth about body dysmorphia - which I believe probably is a very rare psychological condition- a deliberate and cynical group of people have lied and manipulated their well meaning but poorly informed followers into believing hype, poor science and lies.

Keep shining the light JKR.

All I ever see of JKR is her getting into slanging matches on Twitter. The last thing I saw was her saying something about a back sack and crack wax to a trans woman. Unnecessarily personal IMO although I know India W is hardly a victim. I think things like that are beneath her and drag her down too.

I find the hero worship of her on here a bit cringe.

'All I ever see of JKR is her getting into slanging matches on Twitter''
Nuff said - if that's 'all you ever see of JKR', you obviously don't know very much about her.
There's a lot more to JKR than tweets, as you're probably learning from this thread.

I agree with you about hero worship, I hate it too. I prefer to base my admiration for people like JKR on something solid and verifiable, like the very solid foundation of ethics and courage and generosity that JKR has shown over the years.

I've heard she writes a good book, too, but I haven't read any of them so I'll have to trust the reviews and astronomical sales figuresSmile

In fairness, @justteanbiscuits , you did make some pretty remarkable accusations about her. It's reasonable to ask for evidence that she did say horrible things.

Badger baiting Willoughby isn't the classiest move but god knows JKR has had provocation enough on that front. Given the awfulness she receives I figure she deserves a little fun exposing IW's nonsense to ridicule.

You said she criticised a friend of yours because she was told your friend was a transwoman holding a position for women. But deleted it when she found out the truth.

That's responsible, isn't it? To take a stand about the rights and positions of women being taken away, but more importantly to retract and delete any comments made from wrong information.

I said that yes, at least she deleted it. But it had already been read by millions of her followers. Just because a man had decided she didn't meet his level of attractiveness for a woman. She has so many followers she should not be sharing unverified information, including my friends full name. Can you imagine what happened to her teenager daughters at high school? She didn't care when she tweeted it - she didn't care enough to do a very basic check to see if the information was true.

I stated before I am not willing to share my own personal information on here, including my personal twitter account. In previous discussions I have offered to share information privately, but this private information was then shared in the public discussion (MN deleted it thankfully when I reported it).

I just find it very dull when people, because you're not saying what they want to hear, immediately jump to "you are lying".

For the record, I have done significant work, entirely in an unpaid capacity, around protecting women, though mainly in sport, ensuring that competition is kept fair. I also campaign for there to be adequate psychological support for young people questioning their gender, which I think is vitally important. There is, for example, a clear issue with autistic young people, and I think that there is an enormous lack of trained, meaningful psychological support for them to prevent them making awful, life changing mistakes.

Why on earth would I take a screen shot?!

So that you can demonstrate her ‘hatefulness’ to the world presumably. Especially as no one else has been able to prove even a smidgeon of ‘transphobia’.

EmmyFr · 18/08/2025 10:59

TheLudditesWereRight · 18/08/2025 09:32

Doing it in an offputting communicative style is counter-productive.

It's not, though. It's really sad, and I mean it because I'm a gentle person, but because of the click bait media and social networks tough language is most likely to resonate (I said tough, not coarse) and that is hugely necessary when the other side are chanting "no debate" and forbidding to just talk about the issue. In addition, soft talk like "Hannah Mouncey laments "she" won't be able to play sports" make the vast majority of people not invested in the issue genuinely fail to see the problem: Mouncey is a male.

By the way, it might interest some people on this thread to know that there is currently £1m in reward money up for grabs for the person who can find something JK Rowling has actually said which is transphobic. It's been unclaimed for a surprisingly long time.

Is that really true? That’s so interesting

LadyBracknellsHandbagg · 18/08/2025 10:54

justteanbiscuits · 18/08/2025 10:43

Excellent. "That didn't didn't happen waah waah waah".

Come up with a better discussion point than "I don't want to believe you so you are lying". It is dull, and shows what an ignorant person you are.

You are the sort of person who would probably gleefully jump on a bandwagon of supposedly outing someone as trans (again, she is not trans) and trying to wreck their family lives as she once had a job you didn't approve of. It is people like you who utterly disgust me.

Being asked to provide proof for statements you make is perfectly logical and reasonable. People make up all sorts of things on SM, are you unaware of that? Do you believe everything you read on SM? It would seem that you do if your views on JKR are anything to go by.

If I told you I was the Prime Minister would you believe me? Because there’s actually no objective way for you to prove that I’m not. Given that presumably you don’t have daily conversations with her, you could easily prove what you’re saying about JKR yet you choose not to do so. So excuse me if I choose to draw my own conclusions from that.

Your last paragraph makes absolutely no sense so I’m unable to comment on that.

Kalalily · 18/08/2025 10:50

CrumpledBlouse · 18/08/2025 09:06

I think she’s a significant philanthropist. The reason she’s assumed an undue prominence on trans erosions of women’s rights is largely precisely because she’s rich and powerful, and can therefore speak frankly without fearing she’ll be fired or her books ‘cancelled’.

I can think of several writer friends, successful and famous in that their names would be familiar to the reading public, but who are reliant on university jobs and rpthejr books continuing to be bought, and live in dread of someone asking them about trans issues at a Q and A because they’re gender-critical, but aware of how kneejerk sympathies are.

“But aware of how kneejerk sympathies are”…

This I think is a significant factor in the ongoing trans identification of young autistic people searching for an identity. Kneejerk sympathy can be understood as affirmation in this cohort and anyone who gives a thoughtful response or digs a bit deeper is seen as GC and ‘on the wrong side of history’.
Imagine if you have been bullied all your life for being different (autistic) and suddenly everybody is sympathetic and kind to you when you identify as trans then of course you are going to hang on to that trans identity and to hell with the long-term consequences of your decisions because it’s better to have found acceptance than to continue to struggle.
Sorry OP, I appreciate this is not the subject of your post but I think it is an important point to raise and although JKR is mostly coming at it from a feminist point of view, she does also consider the harmful impact on young autistic people which is more than most.

I am sure that if JKR thought India needed advice on being a woman, say on cervical health, she would offer it willingly.

Knitting? Knitting is too good for her! Knitting is for real women, like Jane Fae.

That post was an attempt to answer @CurlewKate 's (implied) question: what did she do and say, and what do TRAs think about it?

I think @Imnotgonnamiss nailed it with:

Some people believe trans women are women and transmen are men. Either because they believe people can change sex, which isn’t really the case based on a typical understanding of what sex is &/OR because they believe gender is the defining characteristic and sex is secondary.

In other words, she is hateful because she is a non-believer.

I have trans friends who firmly believe in the hate, but won't even read her words. Because they know, on some level, that they are imposing a metaphysical belief on society.

Ahh I see. The sarcasm went over my head!

‘When I asked her, straight out, if she supported all women what ever their POV on the trans issue, she said no, she only supports the women who agree with her. Which is her right, but she says it so nastily.’

It would be lovely to see the proof of that, as surely if someone like her interacted with you you would take a screenshot. Because if not, it’s just hearsay.

It was all around 2 years ago. It's all on twitter so feel free to find it. But no, I am not posting links to my personal twitter on here, and I don't have time to trawl through a few years of tweets from very very tweety people.

JKR was one of many who jumped on the bandwagon of doxing a close friend of mine as she had previously held a job they didn't agree with (literally just an E&D role in a charity where she had been in post when they released a pride flag badge, that is all). JKR at least had the guts to delete her posts when told the information she had was 100% incorrect (that my friend was a trans woman, not born a woman. Apparently pregnancy and child birth weren't enough for others to withdraw their tweets and videos). Others didn't, even when it led to friends children being bullied.

Sure Jan.
