I think you are taking it all a bit too seriously for a light entertainment show.

I thought the expression "outraged denizens" was mildly amusing. It was in response to all the shouting at people by people on this thread.

As for misogyny being everywhere, what point are you trying to make by asking me not to worry about it? I'm saying we have experienced it all our lives.

Remains to be seen which male professional is asked to fall on their sword and accept being voted out before the Halloween special.

I am conflicted on this. Like many I believe that drag is adult entertainment and should be nowhere near children’s story hours etc. I am also fed up of seeing it so often on the BBC given that it is niche adult entertainment (not family friendly IMO). But then I wonder if it was Lily Savage or Dame Edna in the competition would I view it the same way. They were mainstream and family friendly. What do others think?

Why must we tear each other apart because we disagree? This thread reminds me of feminist infighting in the 1970s. Polarised positions, all of them humourless, arguing about political theories, whether it is okay to be a mother, whether it is okay not to be a lesbian, how people are betraying the sisterhood with their thoughts.

Exactly. This form of mockery of one of the protected characteristics as mainstream entertainment has (rightly)been consigned to the dustbin - hopefully drag will go the same way in time.

Drag nowadays is rubbish anyway. Far too many sub-mediocre performers jumping on the bandwagon since it became mainstream and Americanised. We've lost the gentler British tradition of female impersonation.

People used to find the black and white minstrel show highly entertaining and not at all racist….. so you’d be ok if that was still shown? If not, why not?

So you’re ok with men mocking women? Why? Why are you ok with men with womanface mocking women but would be upset at a show like the black and white minstrels? What is the difference?

You can tell a lot of these people came to gay rights advocacy a bit too late, so now they pick up any old flag with a rainbow on it without realising it's actually bright red.

As we can see, the history of blackface and womanface is very tightly intertwined.

Not even the MRAs on this thread can deny it now.

It IS mockery! That's what you are not understanding! That's what we've all tried to tell you! Laughing about women smelling 'fishy', 'fishy vaginas' and using stage names like Anne Abortion and Miss Carriage is certainly mocking to any normal person! Drag is hateful, misogynistic and is mocking women.

Many posters on here argue that it is mockery, mocking women, when a man dresses as a woman for a drag show.

What do you think is actually going on, if not mockery, then what is it?

Many people find drag queens hugely entertaining and not at all misogynistic.. I don’t see the problem
