I got the same reply as @ArabellaScott and I wondered the same thing - who are these "independent" investigators? Whoever they are I wonder if they will take a good hard look at how these internal staff networks operate.

Anyway, back to the NLS: they've instigated an investigation using an external body, apparently. Curious to know who that body is.

'Due to the complexity and volume of complaints on the earlier decision not to include the book ‘The Women Who Wouldn't Wheesht’ in the Library’s ‘Dear Library’ exhibition, we have outsourced the stage two investigation to an independent external party.

As it is an independent investigation by an external investigator, we have little control over the timescale of that process but, at this stage, we do know we will not be able to provide a response to your complaint within our original aim of 20 working days. We believe the investigation will be concluded by Friday 26 September and aim to respond to you and all other complainants during week commencing Monday 29 September.'

Good to hear the GFT are resisting. Absolutely absurd that these bullies have been enabled. Istr one of their demands was holding an event - for all ages - and saying that the CCA must promise to not call police under any circumstances? Insanity.

Responsible for successfully bullying the CCA (who have seen the error of their ways) and attempting to bully the GFT, who have resisted and held onto their independence for now.

Is there a bit missing, should that be plenty of examples of misogyny?

I'm sure that calling out misogyny is somehow transphobic.

It's good to see a book, in a library, along with other books.

I can't believe in 2025 we are actually having to fight librarians to have this happen.

I think they should be encouraged to read the book and highlight the hurty words. I’ve read it and found nothing transphobic in it at all, but plenty's of misogyny.

There will be much hand-holding and checking in with each other on Teams to make sure they're not feeling unsafe and distressed by the hurty words in the book. They will be absolutely loving the self-inflicted drama and there will no doubt be counselling on offer.

If ever there was an argument for the removal of right to the internet, this is it. Too many people out there who should have been pointed in the direction of hobbies and clubs by their parents, rather than screens.

Any news about the well-being of the LGBT+ staff who were so scared of the book?
Sick leave? Sulking? Work-to-rules? Tantrums? Disciplinary actions? Sabotage? Resignations?
Or maybe just the realisation that bullying doesn't always work.

I dropped in to the NLS "Dear Library" exibition yesterday afternoon to see TWWWW for myself. It's there, among the other 100 books chosen by the public. The book next to it now is an Irvine Welsh.

So I have decommissioned my TWWWW library craft kit - coloured pencils in case the green and purple pencils are missing, mini paper copies of the TWWWW book cover, Pritt stick and list of useful quotes to write on cards.

Thanks for the headsup about Guessie's book group @Seriestwo I wont be able to join the next one (working day, sigh) but hope everyone has a fantastic time in October!

Massive squinting going on, but I think the red book spine immediately next to WWWW is Kacen Callener's 'Felix Ever After' , then the green book spine is Rick Riorden's 'Percy Jackson - The Lightning Thief'. After that, I haven't hope of working it out!

But I'm left wondering which organisation Fanshawe was talking about, as there is no such group as 'Arts for Palestine'.
I wish the journalist/ Telegraph could have been a bit less sloppy, and told us whether they actually meant to refer to 'Artists for Palestine' or 'Artworkers for Palestine'.
I imagine it's the latter, as they've been responsible for targeting (bullying, frankly) various cultural centres in Glasgow over the past few months, with the demand that they publicly endorse PACBI (https://www.bdsmovement.net/pacbi) - one of the main characters involve comes across (online) as an increasingly unhinged, hate-filled, dogmatic, hypocritical, virtue-signalling, over-privileged import-from-England
(and I write this as someone who has been in complete support of both the Palestinian struggle and the BDS movement for decades, but am utterly horrified at the impact this person's 'activism' is having on working class Scottish artists & access to the precious few free/ public spaces we have in the city)

The bit about them giving into activists. Claiming they're worried about the safety of their staff from the...fluence of the GC, Conservative, Jewish people being targeted. In reality it's the violence and intimidation of the activists which is where the fear comes from.

Good, face-forward display, says she with her retired librarian hat on. I just wish I could read the titles of the books shelved alongside. Are they perhaps for "balance"?
