Reform gets confused by men in dresses

Looks like we need a thread to discuss how Reform finds it difficult to work out the difference between men and women after recent developments. This is not surprising at all remember it was the Tories who were key playing is promoting this stuff in the first place. Trump was previously fine with trans stuff. Gender ideas are regressive and conservative so they will always have a place on the right, though the left are pushing it hard as well.

Nigel Farage will NOT pledge to ban trans inmates from women's jails
By CLAIRE ELLICOTT WHITEHALL EDITOR

Nigel Farage has failed to commit to banning trans women from female prisons after his new justice adviser said they should not be automatically barred.

Vanessa Frake, a former prison governor who oversaw the detention of Rose West, said decisions on where to house inmates should be made on an 'individual basis'.

Asked for his views on her comments yesterday, the Reform UK leader told the Daily Mail: 'I've personally never worked in a prison so I can't answer [the question] but I think you'll find that the answer that you'll get from somebody who has worked in prisons at the highest possible level is, I think, basically it's about risk assessment, isn't it?

'But in terms of the problems in prisons, it's a relatively small one.'

A Reform spokesman later added of Ms Frake: 'An ex-prison governor... has a different opinion. That does not constitute party policy.'

In an interview to mark her appointment, Ms Frake said decisions about trans prisoners should be made on a case-by-case basis. But she told The Times that sexual offenders may need to be held in male prisons.

'It's all about the risk assessments for me, and each has to be done on an individual basis,' she said.

Some sense from Joan Smith

Even Reform UK is falling prey to gender ideology Joan Smith
https://archive.ph/pIjQj

Even Reform UK, which has tried to position itself as a refuge for voters who are fed up with the trans-obsessed rhetoric of other parties, can’t keep its recruits on-message. A former prison governor, Vanessa Frake, had barely been announced as the party’s new justice advisor when she <a class="break-all" href="https://archive.ph/o/pIjQj/www.telegraph.co.uk/politics/2025/08/04/reform-prison-tsar-vanessa-frake-trans-women-female-jails/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">declared that trans women should not be barred from women’s prisons. Her argument, which is unusual to say the least, seems to be that some female prisoners are horrible people, so it makes no sense to exclude trans-identified males.

We have to be mindfull of the man who has spent 30 years living as a women, who is in prision for, presumably, jaywalking.

In the meantime those men who ID as women frequently get no jail time (even when they are violent offenders) because the judges perceive them to be so vulnerable that they can't possibly send them to prison...

Yes. That man has committed to this for 30 years, he's earned the right to use women as support humans for his validation.

Even if we look at it from an individual rights perspective, what about those women's rights? There are reasons we don't have mixed sex prisons and it's not because every single male prisoner would be a threat to women's safety. Men shouldn't be in women's spaces. Not even nice, harmless men.

It's so depressing to realise there are that many men out there who don't seem to see women as fully human. They don't even realise that they're putting the cross-dressing man's rights above women's. They claim that there's no conflict.

I think their best hope is to do a deal with the Tories. They can’t be dismissed as easily as some posters might hope, though.

That would be the kiss of death for Reform. Never going to happen.

Im i imagining things or did see a press conference where he said he wasnt an expert on prisions and would defer to those who were? Then laughed?

Im not going to vote for him, so what do i care, but hes as slippery as the rest of them.

He said it was a matter of a risk assessment. Vanessa Frake had said case by case risk assessment. They think we're stupid.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 05/08/2025 12:12

As things stand I won’t be voting for any of them.

Reform candidates and voters represent a real rag-tag collection of single issue voters, odd bods and misfits of one sort or another. How on earth they can all be corralled into one big tent is anyone's guess. I imagine Farage imagines that most of his voters will prioritise immigration and Brexit type issues above everything else.

I think their best hope is to do a deal with the Tories. They can’t be dismissed as easily as some posters might hope, though.

What's so exasperating about this is that Reform doesn't need to formulate a policy or to work out what will most please their supporters - they just need to follow the law. That's all any of the parties need to do. It's really simple. They just need to acknowledge that the Supreme Court has made a ruling and they will adhere to it.

Indeed. The other parties don’t even need to placate the trans lobby, they aren’t in a position to change the law.

Nigel seems to have updated his views on the matter. If you don’t want to or can’t look on X apparently he’s never supported men in women’s prisons.

Surely putting men in women's prisons would require a law change now with the SC ruling. Does anyone know if all the men in women's prisons have been removed to the male estate now? If not surely it is only a matter of time before there will be a legal challenge. There was a JR previously wasn't there. I wonder if that would have succeeded now?

I dont think its the EqA that allows men into womens prisons. And i know that its been going on for longer than the EqA or the GRA.

But it would be odd for women and female to mean significantly different things in different laws

They either exist or they don't. Mumsnet is a big place. Just link what you mean and we can see what you are going on about.

As I say, if you can't find a few threads that were clearly started to peddle an agenda of an unstoppable Reform revolution than maybe I am being overly cynical.

I am hoping that such self awareness will prove a vaccine against the Reformabollocks I fear.

Reform candidate Andrew Southall has posted the following on Twitter.

'There’s been some confusion about Reform UK’s stance following today’s press conference. Let me be crystal clear: Reform UK does NOT support putting biological men in women’s prisons. Vanessa Frake is an adviser, not a policy maker. Reform will always put women’s safety first; no ifs, no buts. The left want to twist this because they know we’re gaining ground. They want to make Reform look weak on the one issue we’ve never budged on: reality. Well here’s reality: Women’s spaces must be protected. Sex-based rights matter. And no man, no matter how he identifies, belongs in a women’s prison if there’s any risk to safety. '

Note the final sentence: 'And no man, no matter how he identifies, belongs in a women’s prison if there’s any risk to safety.'

So while appearing to say they won't allow men in women's prisons, they are still saying they only won't allow men in women's prisons 'if there's any risk to safety'

Clowns.

Thats the problem with all small parties, especially change ones. They just dont have to people to parade around who have had experience.

So hes using people like frake who have experience. But shes part of the establishment who fucked it up in the first place.

Every party has to appeal to a wide base, and therefore gives contradictory messsges.

But if people are voting for Forage and expect change, the let down is going to be greater than whats happened over the last few years.

The torries let the electorate down and they were voted out. No one really believed labour would do anything, and didnt get a good victory, therefore the anger isnt there. More that everyone knew Starmer was going to be bad, but not this bad.

The expectation is high for reform. And i dont think they even want to deliver.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 05/08/2025 11:42

Women in prison are compelled to accept men claiming to be women in their cells, showers etc. They will be punished for "transphobia" if they voice any complaint. That's because transactivists captured the Ministry of Justice, the Home Office and the Prison Service years ago.
So the ex prison governor won't have heard any complaints from women locked up. They'd be punished for doing so.

All part of the silencing of women to accepting voyeurism and indecent exposure without complaint.

SerendipityJane · 05/08/2025 11:36

Ive heard that Farage needs a wider base to get the support needed to form a government.

Especially in a FPTP system, the electoral maths means that to get anywhere near power, Reform needs people to vote for it that (for example) are committed EU rejoiners. And these people hate Farage. There are other oxymorons too. A word that seems so appropriate when talking about Reforms policy panderings.

I think hes appealing to an imaginary middle voterwho wouldn't vote for him normally, but see a progressive policy and be swayed. He's appointed people who go against what a lot of people would imagine a typical reform voter would want.

I dont know about the other issues, but regarding men in womens prisions, it demonstrates a lack of understanding of the 'middle voter' and safeguarding

. Its extreme to want men in women prisions, even the often used trope of 30 years living as a women, ones.

It also shows that he hasn't an opinion on a lot of issues that have been talking points for the public for a long time.

I dont think he's as forward thinking or the natural leader many assume. He's often seems to need a long time to understand, and its only because the main parties stubbornly refused to see the problem with immigrant that he looked on top of the issue.

If he does get to power, i predict a lot of people are going to be disappointed.

Yes, the thing about the 'men in women's prisons on a case by case basis' suggests he's given no real thought to the issue at all...and like many other men see it as a non issue...but it also, worryingly, suggests that he might well extend that type of thinking or assumption to other types of single sex space too.

And yes, if Reform should win it is going to be an even bigger mess than it is now with Starmer - in terms of delivery on manifesto commitments. He'll be like Trump.....will immediately issue a lot of 'bans' on certain types of things to make it look like he means business....but fail to achieve anything significant in the long run.

Like Starmer before him his main job is to get Reform elected and he'll say whatever he thinks he needs to say to do so...but once in power we'll find he doesn't actually really stand for anything much at all......except his freedom to smoke cigarettes in the pub and say provocative things about migrants.

I was referring more to the flood of "We are just waiting for the second coming of Farage" threads that have taken over MN since the start of the summer holidays. Presumably a load of bots that have been told by bigger bots that posting on a parenting forum automatically makes you a woman.

Are you talking about other boards on MN? I've never seen such a thing here.

Why do women in positions of power use their influence against other women?

Especially the most vulnerable?
