Which wife was this? You know a while back before all this kicked off (and the complaints about him were in the news) there was a 'my daily routine' type of interview with him. In one of the weekend papers? It describes his wife as being a lot younger (of course!), she I think originated from another European country and was the mother of his youngest child (the one who's autistic I believe). It said how she was the one who wanted a child and how he only spent a set time each day with his son. There was also mention of her moving her own parents in with them.

Does anyone else remember this? Poor woman and poor kid. Is she still with him?

Me too. I've mentioned before that I did Masterchef (in 2001 with Gary Rhodes) There's an awful lot of work goes into it, including non televised heats (or there was at that time) We filmed in early Feb and the programmes aired from late May onwards. I didn't win, but obviously you have to keep quiet about who won etc. That person is going to potentially lose their moment of glory. Back when I did it, it wasn't as prestigious. I mean, it was still big and I did a lot of publicity; interviews, magazine articles, my recipes published online and in BBC good food magazine. People make careers on the back of it now. It all stinks and has needed a makeover for a long time now.

The pair of them were the reason I never understood friends etc gushing over Masterchef. I used to say can’t you see they’re piss taking cunts? To me it was screaming from every pore. Good riddance

Yes, the industry is utterly riddled @deadpan It seems to attract bad sorts, but also the deeply ingrained culture of "Oh that's just what he's like, don't mind him" You absolutely would not get that anywhere else - at that level - these days.

I used to think that being a chef was a nightmare as there seemed to be no rules about your boss not shouting in your face that you were a fucking cunt, but at least it's not as riddled with predatory men that are excused time and time again with the wave of a hand.

The whole TV environment has failed women. Obviously Saville, but long before Wallace there was Chris Evans dropping his pants on TFI Friday and John Barrowman doing the same on the Dr Who set. Laughed along by Catherine Tate and David Tennant. Then there's Russell Brand, after allegations and complaints made to Channel Four, he was invited on Stand up to Cancer Bake Off. It's rife and it isn't banter.
If you can't do it in another work setting it shouldn't be ok to do it on a set.

You're absolutely right, @Beowulfa, I really should go along and learn how the girls do it now. But it's difficult for this old lesbian feminist because I've had the same viciously cropped haircut for about the last thirty years, and I haven't worn a skirt (not even one that go spinny!) since my sister's wedding in 1984 (God, the things you have to do to keep your mother happy..).
