Spent a little while trying to track down a source report for the Amnesty conversion therapy claims

Was not able to find anything - anyone else found the report?

I did find some Amnesty published documents, for example

Was a bit shocked to find that about 95% of the references in this paper were for to other Amnesty documents - all a bit circular.

There seemed to be a need to use numbers to backup claims,

"In the realm of technology-facilitated gender-based violence (TfGBV), Amnesty International found that racialized women (Black, Asian, Latin American and mixed-race women) in UK and USA were 34% more likely than white women to be mentioned in abusive content"

but on closer inspection the numbers do not seem to be based in scientific method - e.g. the 34% above is based on anecdotal evidence

The study appears to use crowdsourcing to inspect tweets, pick out the ones with women, divide them up by race and then use AI to rate them as abusive or non-abusive.

There might be a further step where the AI scales the results of the small tweet sampling to reflect the total number of tweets posted in the UK and USA.

The exact definitions of abuse, woman and methodology are clearly very important in interpreting the study's results.

Attitudes like this show how ironically relevant the suffrage colours have become to women's resistance against this dangerous infringement on our liberties.

To suggest that women's fundamental right to a democratic voice should be conditional upon total capitulation to their wants is really revealing. We've come full circle, it seems, from 1928 and it's taken only just short of a century.

Note there is no similar hypothetical sanction against men who apparently pose a threat to non-masculine men in their changing facilities.

I donated to amnesty back in the day. I stopped due to being skint. I then was bombarded and harassed for donations. What they sent me, clearly cost more than what I had donated in the first place. I realised it was a total con and none of the money I donated was going to the causes I thought.

It’s really sad that I can no longer have any respect for Amnesty. Their stance on this makes me wonder whether I can trust what they say about other human rights topics.

Well given that left wing grass roots women's organisations have been labelled as nazi and far right I think we have reached a point of labelling anything that remotely disagrees with the 'official internationally approved trans line' as 'anti-trans' regardless of whether it's left wing, right wing, pro-any other group, martian, safeguarding.

So anyone who doesn't agree is being smeared.

Meanwhile if you follow the money in the trans industry it gets murky quickly. But talking about that will get you labelled as far right and anti-trans.

Here's the thing. No one gives a fuck anymore because they are so fed up of all the bullshit and not being allowed to talk about their own issues in peace without 'but what about the transpeople' when the subject has fuck all to do with trans and it's a massive waste of time, effort and emotional headspace.

So yeah the far right could be taking advantage of the total loss of patience with it all, but that's not the fault of women campaigners campaigning for women's rights in the UK. That due to the utter lack of respect the trans movement has for anyone but themselves.

For there to be accurate evidence to support Amnesty’s claim. several things would need to be defined.

One of those would have to be ‘conversion therapy’.

In the UK, conversion therapy is already against the law. As it should be. What has been wrongfully described as conversion therapy is exploratory therapy. It is anything other than affirmation.

So, this article seems to be using misinformation to bring in the ‘LGBT’ population into their report. Most likely to get more funding.

If they supplied the details, and were up front about what was being referred to, this report probably would be canned for inaccuracy. But then they wouldn’t get the funding would they.

Does anyone know if there's a public report to back the assertions? In particular I find the following highly implausible:

Despite the UK government announcing plans ban on conversion therapy in July 2024, no legislation has yet materialised. "

I'm quite curious about the list of 12 groups. I'm not aware of any groups that, even within the broadest definition, are promoting conversion therapy to change or suppress sexual orientation. With respect to gender identity anyone promoting approaches that seek to address underlying psychological issues first or who disagree with any aspect of gender ideology dogma could be labeled as 'advocating for conversion therapy'. Genspect is probably the most famous, though even SexMatters could probably be classified under that rubric.

I suspect one of the reasons Labour kicked the conversion therapy bill into the long grass is because whenever they asked for examples of what they were supposed to be banning, no one was able to produce objectionable cases.

The organisation which back in the day started off asking people to giving a voice to an unpopular opinion and now campaigns to remove the rights of people to engage in the democratic process Amnesty?

Me too! I went to a lunchtime club at school and wrote so many letters.... I dont recognise it anymore.

Amnesty sent placards to transactivists picketing a Filia conference on violence against women and children. It also supports prostitution in developing countries. It is a disgrace.

But it was okay for Stonewall to have the luxury of US funding because it was the right sort?
