Where did I say I think all men are amazing? I know that men are behind most violent and sexual crime. As I keep repeating it doesn't mean I feel anxious around men I dont know and it doesmt mean sex is the only factor I use in determining how safe I feel with someone. I also dont base my life decisions on posts ive read on places like mumsnet.

I don't doubt that most here would agree.

I don't feel particularly anxious around men I don't know.

I don't use sex as the only factor I use in determining how safe I feel with someone.

I don't base my life... Etc.

But...

This does not invalidate the need for single sex spaces. You, or I, do not consent for all women.

I'm glad you haven't (and if you're a woman I question this) seen the potential and willing that some men have to size and strength to subjugate women. That they declare themselves to be women shouldn't make a shred of difference.

Don't you see?

😁😁😁😁😁

I knew you weren't a genuine poster, but you've just confirmed it by having my previous post deleted.

ETA, which bit did you not agree with?

I have some amazing men in my life. That does not make me naive stupid enough to think all men are amazing. Have you done any reading of the myriad, intelligent, well researched posts going back years on this board, as you were recommended to many pages back? No? Thought not.........

I'm around men almost every day of my life. I'm starting to feel like some people on here dont interact with men at all.

I also know from your posts that you have zero idea how prisons work or about the risk management involved.

You are out of your depth here and you should thank your lucky stars that other, much wiser, much braver women than you are willing to put the work in to protect all women.

Enjoy your beverage in the garden.

That's correct the prison service and criminals is not something I think about in my day to day life. I don't know the inner workings of the system.

You've either been incredibly lucky, or you're incredibly naive. Or just stirring.

Well that's your thoughts. I genuinely don't feel scared or nervous or anxious around men I dont know simply because they are men. It's how they act, their eyes, what they say, their body language, the vibe/6th sense I get from them.

Ok, but again, we are discussing how the law and prisons should work.

Your understandably emotional reaction to your mother being murdered by another woman is not a useful basis on which to base public policy.

It’s why we have judges and juries to make sure there is parity between punishment for similar offences.

As I said above, the threat of sexual violence is not acceptable as a form of punishment in any civilised society.

I dont know what your going on about but I've never said I think the threat of sexual violence should be a form of punishment

Eagle2025 · 29/06/2025 20:17

BettyBooper · 29/06/2025 20:07

Well what we're all doing here is making sure that this doesn't happen to your (hypothetical) friend. Whatever she's locked up for.

We're moving the man to a different cell.

To a different prison, so not in any woman's cell.

Well everybody feels strongly about something.

Haulage · 29/06/2025 20:10
  1. Credulous
  2. Craven
  3. Dishonest

I’m going with 3.

I meant if she had for example murdered my mother in cold blood- no I wouldnt give a toss about her cell mates.

Ffs honestly. Can you really not grasp what I'm saying about for me sex doesnt come into determining how safe I feel around a person. Can you at least take that on board.

You've either been incredibly lucky, or you're incredibly naive. Or just stirring.

BettyBooper · 29/06/2025 20:07

Eagle2025 · 29/06/2025 19:51

Firstly it would depend what she was in prison for. Secondly I would hope that she wouldn't be sharing with a man. I dont have any idea how the system works but if she found herself with a man I would try and help her or the man get moved to a different cell, if possible.

I agree that we can make judgements about people that we know personally that take other things into account about who to trust.

But when dealing with strangers, the risk assessment only falls one way. We have no other knowledge of the person than their sex. It doesn’t mean that most men are not decent human beings. But for those who are not, you can’t defend yourself if they choose to do you harm. And men are way more likely to use their physical strength against another person. And indulge in voyeurism, indecent exposure and other paraphilias.

Do you understand the difference between people you know and people you don’t know?

Yes

nutmeg7 · 29/06/2025 20:03

Eagle2025 · 29/06/2025 19:55

I didnt say I deemed men safer than women. I said that's not the main factor to me when deciding how safe someone is to me.

Like you say it will be based on statistics so it's up to the people with access to all the correct information to make up the laws.

I agree that we can make judgements about people that we know personally that take other things into account about who to trust.

Why cant you believe me? Think about any nice man you know. Picture him in your head. Now think of a female person you wouldnt trust (I'm being careful how I word this so as not to offend). Now imagine waking up beside both of them in hospital. Are you honestly saying that simply because the woman was female you would feel safer beside her?

Do you understand the difference between people you know and people you don’t know?

Eagle2025 · 29/06/2025 20:01

nutmeg7 · 29/06/2025 19:55

Why would it depend on her crime???

Sentencing does NOT include additional punishment in the form of being made to share a cell with a man. That is not how our justice system works. Should threat of sexual violence be part of women’s punishment? I doubt that is legal under international law.

I’m very happy to see the Woman flag flying during Rod Stewart’s set! Being swung back and forth with an enthusiasm that suggests they’ve been safe.
