We have had single-sex prisons since the campaigning work of Elizabeth Fry in the nineteenth century. The UN mandates that prisons are single-sex. There are good reasons for this which I shouldn’t have to explain.

Male prisoners should be in male prisons. Transwomen are male. It is nothing to do with 'targets'. It is nothing to do with same-sex attraction. It is to do with biological sex as clarified in the EA2010.

A transwoman (biological male) who is attracted to males should be in male prison.
A transwoman (biological male) who is attracted to females should be in male prison.
A male person with no gender identity or one who says they are 'cis' (whatever their sexuality) should also be in a male prison.

Re the thread title, another MC bastion - Waitrose this morning. I rarely go, so don't know if they think June is over already. Was greeted by a revolving board which included the progress flag, and was fully expecting more. But nothing in the shop. Nada.

Of course if you just lump everyone together that would be insane. A transwoman in a female prison with their bits cut off is very much in the minority. Lots of hard women in prison and if the transwoman isn't segregated I could actually see him being the one in danger. Especially since any transwoman with violent or sexual offences against women or children wouldnt be put with women. So they will be men convicted of lesser charges.

That doesnt make me homophobic though which is what you were throwing at me. You say dont house transwomen with women as that is their most likely target, so on that logic I said dont house lesbians with women as that is their most likely target. You are also acknowledging in this post I'm tagging that not all lesbians would attack but not acknowledging the same for transwomen.

Do you not understand the large differences in strength between men and women (meaning male and female adults)?

The division of prisons into male and female is the single, simplest step to take if you want to reduce the number of victims of violence in prison.

It is barbaric to lock a woman up to share a cell with a man.

Ergo, I believe that your special prisons for homosexual women is homophobic. You would be including the non-violent lesbians in your special lesbian gulag because of their same-sex attraction.

Male prisoners, however they identify, who are considered vulnerable should be housed in a VPU. Placing trans-identified males in women's prisons instead indicates that this is an ideological decision taken against the best interests of women.

Some prisons have Vulnerable Prisoner Units (VPUs). This is a unit or a wing where some prisoners stay if the prison believes they are at risk from others.
VPU is not the same as segregation.
Not all prisons have a VPU, so it may be necessary to transfer you to another prison if this is the most appropriate option.

I am saying that female prisons should only house female prisoners (including the lesbian prisoners as they are female). Male prisoners sould be in male prisons. This is using the biological meaning of sex as clarified by the Supreme Court regarding the EA2010.

If there is an issue in a prison where a prisoner is attacking other prisoners, then that will need to sorted out, as that should not be allowed to continue in female or male prisons. The answer to that issue is not mixed-sex prisons though.
