WRASAC Dundee and Angus job vacancies - quoting exemption for a women only post via Equality Act, and saying women includes transwomen

WRASAC is Women's Rape and Sexual Abuse Centre. I harnessed two adverts today from them stating exemption for women only under Equality Act and including transwomen.
Link to their website adverts
I naively thought things would have changed after ERCC, FWS tribunals etc

Trans women are women. Irrespective of the fact that they're being used as a political punchbag at the moment, to detract focus from GENUINE issues. As a former user of WRASAC I would be as comfortable speaking to a trans woman as I would be to a cis woman. Go complain about real problems and advocate for more funding or protest the huge number of sexual assaults carried out by Cis men every week.

Did you miss the Supreme Court ruling? Transwomen are not women either biologically or legally. HTH

“Trans women” are men. Many women would prefer a female only environment when dealing with the aftermath of sexual assault and other male violence. Some would self exclude unless they could have one. Why is pushing your identity politics agenda more important than what they want? Why don’t you respect their rights?

1(1)A person (A) does not contravene a provision mentioned in sub-paragraph (2) by applying in relation to work a requirement to have a particular protected characteristic, if A shows that, having regard to the nature or context of the work—
(a)it is an occupational requirement,
(b)the application of the requirement is a proportionate means of achieving a legitimate aim, and
(c)the person to whom A applies the requirement does not meet it (or A has reasonable grounds for not being satisfied that the person meets it).
(2)The provisions are—
(a)section 39(1)(a) or (c) or (2)(b) or (c);
(b)section 41(1)(b);
(c)section 44(1)(a) or (c) or (2)(b) or (c);
(d)section 45(1)(a) or (c) or (2)(b) or (c);
(e)section 49(3)(a) or (c) or (6)(b) or (c);
(f)section 50(3)(a) or (c) or (6)(b) or (c);
(g)section 51(1)
(3)The references in sub-paragraph (1) to a requirement to have a protected characteristic are to be read—
(a)in the case of gender reassignment, as references to a requirement not to be a transsexual person (and section 7(3) is accordingly to be ignored);
(b)in the case of marriage and civil partnership, as references to a requirement not to be married or a civil partner (and section 8(2) is accordingly to be ignored).
(4)In the case of a requirement to be of a particular sex, sub-paragraph (1) has effect as if in paragraph (c), the words from “(or” to the end were omitted.

Call me Pollyanna, but could they be using transgender woman to mean transman?

Any thoughts on this?

And the TWAW mantra is sooooo 2018. It's almost nostalgic seeing it in the wild now.

Can you imagine where we'd be if TRA's had focused on developing specialised services and spaces to meet their needs since 2018 rather than trying to aggressively colonise women's? If they hadn't tried to sell the world a nonsense?

Hello there.

Please would you explain to me how transwomen are women, as in order to be a transwoman one must be born male, aka a man.

Thank you.

I am glad you'd be happy discussing your sexual assault with men but not all women would be, and that is why single sex services are vital, especially for women who have suffered violence at the hands of men. Minimising their trauma as not "a real problem" is insulting.

@myplace @MoodyAndBlue not sure if this zoomed in image is any clearer, but hopefully... It's in the smaller font text at the bottom of the ad.
No response yet to my request for clarification.

Ah yes I can see it now, thanks

I've looked at the ads and downloaded the application form and info and still can't see where it says anything about trans women?

myplace · 27/06/2025 18:36

The picture is t clear enough for me to read. Could it say including transgender women, ie transmen?

IwantToRetire · 27/06/2025 18:32

I think we’ll have to agree to disagree on this one.

I am just pointing out that councils and trust funds can prioritise who they want. ie not all services are of "equal" value to everyone.

But for everyone of us who thinks women only services are a priority, the majority of those administering funds wont think it is.

And funders know that most people wont be perturbed.

ie as is so often quote Donkey charities get far more money via donations that women's aid projects.

Obviously any funded organisation should be run with good employment practice, but funding itself is not subject to any sort of X number of users = X amounts of funds available.

It is always a political decision, whether a local council or private charity,

lets face it even JKR (which she is of course totally entitled to) is not practicing equality. She is taking decisions based on her personal politics.

Hoosemover · 27/06/2025 08:32

IwantToRetire · 27/06/2025 00:51

No they fund organisations to provide services that the state local or national is thought not to be so able to do.

As charities (and in fact businesses) they are obviously meant to follow equality in employment and service provision.

But many charities aren't about an equally available service. They are about provided very targetted services.

But of course a group could be absolutely wonderful and well run. But if the funder thinks well this service isn't that important the group doesn't get funding.

And in fact the biggest cut in funding is to domestic violence project. Nothing was so ever to do with trans issue but funnily enough the bean counters in local councils dont think providing women escaping male violence are that worth while. So many refuges have been closed, and at best a woman may be offered a bed space in some shitty hostel.

Dont ever forget the TRAs do so well because their misogynistic beliefs are build on the solid foundation of MRAs.

I suspect even if JKR was to committ every penny she has earned to provide safe secure housing for women escaping male violence she wouldn't have enough.

Sadly not many people, even feminists are that bothered that the refuge provision in this country has shrunk.

I think we’ll have to agree to disagree on this one.

I was under the impression funding to organisations was on terms that they promoted equality. Organisations are scared losing funding. If the Scottish government came out and said all rape and domestic violence organisations should be single sex only. Then this confusion would not occur

Ah Dundee. Full of bampots.

Sorry OP I have nothing useful to add except that this is where Maggie Chapman is MSP, and the university (which is locally massive) is fully onboard with all kinds of genderwank.

I really, really hope the Scottish Greens get their arses kicked out of the park at the next election.

The University of Dundee. An incompetent principal, jobs lost and the Scottish Government having to bail them out.

This is Scottish Government fault. John Swinney is dragging his knuckles on implementing the SC judgement.
This nonsense has pushed through the back door.

Not really. In the instance of advertising women only jobs ie trans exclusionary nothing has changed.

The problem with job ads, is the few mainly in Scotland who just out right lied.

ie advertised jobs using the clause that means TW are NOT able to apply and then let them apply anyway.

Good idea.

Its hard enough with the word woman having being mangled and manipulated and looking at obscure reference to section this, paragraph that.

@TwelvePercent When I look at /download the documents the text seems to be different in the files to download, compared to the images shared on social media.

Ignore social media.

It is the info in the job descriptions that are relevant. You can download and read them for your self.

IwantToRetire · 26/06/2025 20:03

They do offer support to the LGBTI survivors of rape or sexual assualt.
https://www.wrasac.org.uk/lgbti-survivors/

Many Rape Crisis Centres do, but as separate services.

IwantToRetire · 26/06/2025 20:00

I've looked at the job description and the post being advertised is for women only services.

There is no mention of this service for which the job is advertised as being trans inclusive.

The Women’s Support Service provides support to women (over 18) who have experienced rape, sexual abuse and/or exploitation.
Support can include 1:1 session in the centre or on outreach, advocacy support and signposting to other organisations for support.

We are a feminist organisation which means we recognise that all forms of rape, sexual abuse and exploitation are acts of violence, that disproportionately affects women and children, involving the abuse of power and control, are a breach of human rights and are fundamentally rooted in gender inequality.

There is reference for a service for young people but this job seems to be linked to the over 18 women's service.

We all know that some groups based in Scotland have misadvertised but cant see that this is the case here.

But may have missed something as quite a quick read.
