anyone see Boy George on Lorraine Kelly?

a few years back, George was asking people on Twitter to leave their pronouns at the door, sounding very GC and sensible, from the standpoint of a nonconformist male in the 80’s who liked to wear makeup and dresses whilst happy to be a man and aware he’s not a woman.

Nowadays he’s going on breakfast tv mocking JK Rowling, who only replied to his bloody tweet in self defence. George started the conversation with her.

She didn’t say anything in response that wasn’t factual or on point.

And Lorraine bloody Kelly in mock bewilderment, asking “why does it always end up about toilets”
Do some bloody reading Lorraine. Open your brain. Stop pretending that you don’t understand. (in the style of Jeremy bloody Vine)

Bit C list going on Lorraine. How the mighty have fallen…

I wonder if thats part of BG problem with JKR. She's famous for what she wants to be - an author. He's famous for being a star in the early 80s.

Same with Stephen Fry really. Famous for being famous. Not a brilliant author, or comedian, just is comfortable on screen.

SerendipityJane · 26/06/2025 11:53

It started with prisons because

No one cares about prisoners.

If TRA wanted to make a GRC meaningful for single sex spaces, they might have stood a better chance by lobbying to make it impossible for men to obtain female id without a GRC.

And then show the public in what meaningful way the GRC changes a persons sex.

Yes - whether or not we agree, I think the case law and 2004 legislation assume a high level of gatekeeping - not just in terms of legislation but in terms of social understanding of what it means to be trans.

The campaign for Self ID ended that, and given the large number of people who identify as trans, but not as a man or a woman, there is no return.

Which is a bit of a problem if you are making arguments based on the situation in the 1990s and 2000s.

Maybe they are like Pokémon? Gotta catch 'em all!

A Lorraine the biggest fawning transmaiden of them all

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 26/06/2025 11:38

To add why I think it is indeed thin end of the wedge … it’s a quiet way of appealing to people in the basis -

we just want to pee! and
we have actually been using your loos for like, forever, anyway

It has an effect of making people who perhaps feel uncomfortable objecting (but know this is wrong) and who don’t want to open themselves up to the hysterical fury of TRAs because “it’s just having a wee”?

This is certainly what I’ve observed IRL

DeanElderberry · 26/06/2025 11:38

Some psychiatrists say nobody has gender dysphoria because it does not 'exist'.

Which makes me wonder why the UK government decided on uncritical acceptance that it does.

PrettyDamnCosmic · 26/06/2025 11:28

You have to have a diagnosis of gender dysphoria to qualify for a GRC. The male transexuals who have AGP don't have gender dysphoria.

I would like to thank @GallantKumquat on another thread for this observation-

That the desire to transition is the result of an out-of-control fetish and not some innate immutable identity (like homosexuality) is politically problematic, and many find it intolerable to conceive of themselves as not being in some way the thing they most want to be: female.

Echolalialia · 26/06/2025 11:34

He’s obviously just gripping the coat tails of JKR and trying to win more public interest.

Desperate and disappointing.

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 26/06/2025 11:32

Agree with a pp that the toilet thing is absolutely the thin end of the wedge, like the boiling frog thing. It allows a stealth, slowly but surely assault on our safe spaces.

And Boy George? Wow. That sex offending twat is clocking up the airtime right now isn’t he?

It doesn't end with toilets. That's where it starts. That's the line in the sand. It's the gendered space that most people will use every. Giving way, letting them be colonised by men will make it harder to defend spaces where women are even more vulnerable. Just like they took 'woman', were taking 'female' and were coming for 'biological woman'.

I think it's kind of the other way around. It started with prisons because they stated the belief if prisons were captured everything else would follow, but women's groups have with reasonable success carved back space in prisons, sports, rape and DV services etc.

As someone else said toilets are the only spaces left that are governed more by social contract than law (although there are regulations that cover workplaces, schools etc). This is why it's the area that will/has become the ultimate pissing contest, pun intended.

It's the last power struggle of an overreaching movement that is finally being told no in most areas pertaining to single sex accommodations.

I know, it’s ridiculous. Acquiring a sex? How does that work then! LOL.

Does it come from the same catalogue they use when 'assigning sex' at birth?

I mean, it's 'gender critical' activists who made it about toilets, the delightful people at Sex Matters are trying to work out how to make it an illegal offence to use the toilet of your acquired sex and JK Rowling has been telling people to photograph people they think may be trans in the toilet (which would be an offence) and post them up on Elon Musk's far right site. All totally normal behaviour.

How did you acquire yours?

SerendipityJane · 26/06/2025 11:20

For some reason, when I scrolled past this thread, in my head I read:

Which I suggest to the forum seems a better moniker ?

Anyway, back to buns.

Your problem is not Sex Matters or JK Rowling or gender critical activists.

Your problem is that humans can’t change sex. You can blame the universe for that.

If you want to campaign for mixed sex toilets you certainly have that right, and people who want single sex toilets have the right to make their own arguments. That is democracy.

It’s not clear why this isn’t all obvious.

illinivich · 26/06/2025 11:16

That said, we all know why toilets are the fighting ground; transactivists hope that they can use toilets as the thin edge of the wedge now their tactic of removing the boundary in high risk environments such as prisons, failed.

Toilets aren't the thin edge of the wedge. They are the single sex spaces women and girld are most likely to use.

TRA dont use public toilets to force their way into prisions and hospital wards. They achieved that by lobbying clueless governments. They use the fact that they are using monotored single sex spaces to force their way into public spaces thats arent monitored by anyone in authority.

It isn't possible to acquire a sex. Your sex is fixed from conception.

It has been established in law recently that acquiring a gender different from your sex does not (and never did) remove the obligation to use the toilet (changing room etc etc) appropriate to that sex.

I don't think that's accurate BeeSouriante - GC activists have been concerned about women's spaces, not just toilets - if you've followed the discussions on here, you'll see there has been a lot of concern about protecting the women-only status of rape crisis centres, refuges, etc.

The issue taken to the UKSC by For Women Scotland wasn't about toilets - it was about The Gender Representation on Public Boards (Scotland) Act 2018.

It was trans activists who made the ruling all about toilets - have you seen any discussion of the UKSC Ruling by them - the Trans Legal Project, for example - which does not focus on where they are going to pee? And any lobby or demonstration by them which does not involve peeing?

It is trans activists who demand special toilet provision in buildings, even though it is disproportionate to demand expensive and disruptive 'fourth spaces' for such a tiny percentage of the population, who are physically capable of using the toilets designated for their sex - unlike the 'third spaces' which are actually needed by people with disabilities, it's not just a matter of 'feeling more comfortable' in an accessible toilet.

It is trans activists who have sought, for whatever range of reasons, to overturn the standard format of toilet provision - women's toilet, men's toilet, and disabled people's toilet - as set out in building regs, health and safety regs, workplace regs etc, for without offering a proper rationale for doing so.

Toilets wouldn't be an issue at all if people just accepted that public toilets have always been segregated by biological sex, and it has worked OK - 'the good men stay out so the bad men stand out' - until very recently, when a small group of people started to demand the 'right' to use the toilets designated for the opposite sex.

And it sure wasn't GC activists demanding the 'right' to use the men's toilet!

@womanbornn Why was he on there OP? Does he have a new song out for the first time in 3 decades? Or was he just wanting to tell woman to shut up?
Shame on Lorraine for giving him a platform.

He's got a new album coming out. Telling women to shut up is just a bonus.

Merrymouse · 26/06/2025 11:08

He also talked about parents knowing their child was trans because of ‘a little girl not acting as a little girl should’.

There is a world where the Supreme Court considered whether ‘woman’ made sense in law if it included men, and where Hilary Cass produced a report on gender affirming care for children.

This is the world where JK Rowling lives.

And then there is a world where clueless people spout off on Lorraine.

Am I dreaming or did Ms K "write" a book about a lovely, lovely, gentle, kind, stunning and brave transperson winning against all the odds?

Oh yes, the lovely Angus, who was just so obviously actually a girl! The postmaster and mistress in his Highland village knew it before he did 🤣🤣🤣🤣
