You are of course NOT a woman and, despite what you thought you were presenting as, to everyone else you are still a man in a dress with make up, tights and a handbag. So whilst there probably wasn't any doubt to your friends that you think you're a woman everyone else sees the truth. And as for the policeman you are correct he surely must've also known there was a huge trans event on, which is totally irrelevant to reality, and when confronted by an obvious man in a dress he addressed you as such.

I doubt the story is true, it's all part of the fantasy of whoever said it happen. But if it did, well done that copper 👍
I'm in a dress today because I've been up the smoke to visit a relative, but no tights, no make up and a rucksack instead of a handbag, does that mean I'm not a women or that nobody will think I'm a 'trans' and misgender me?

@afuckinggoat years ago I used to see this person at the bingo and to this day I could not tell if it was a male or a female! sometimes they wore womens blouses and other times they wore mens' shirts. same with trousers. short hair but definitely hair. no sign of receding hairline but that means nothing. a bit chunky so i wasnt sure if they had boobs or moobs!!!

well maybe he did indeed think he was a lad in a skirt which lets face it, is a statemen of some kind, even if one that we might applaud - and have applauded, even. But he had 'styled' himself (hair, specs and iirc, bag) in a stereotypically female coded way, so I'm afraid my assumption was that he considered himself a 'she'. Unlike David Bowie.

Fun story. At my daughter's martial arts class this evening there was a child of about nine with chin length hair and at a distance I wasn't sure if they were a boy or girl. At the end of class the child came very close on the way out and I could see he was a boy.

When the features that we usually associate with one sex (in this case, longer hair which would usually be associated with girls) have you thinking "I don't know" rather than "boy/girl", that usually means "not the sex you'd jump to if they really were that sex; the reason you're unsure is because we associate this feature with M or F but you can tell something is not consistent with that".

Even if you wore a dress, makeup, tights and a handbag every day, what happens when you take them all off to shower or go to bed or go swimming or take a karate class? Do you just pop out of existence until someone manages to fling them all in the right direction? If clothes and cosmetics make you a woman, what are you when you're not wearing them?
