Everyone follows the same set of rules - you don't get to have special ones

Actually LOLed at that 😆

You accused a poster who started a serious thread about women’s experiences, of making fun of others (men). In my book, that is shameful. I’m yet to see you actually engage properly.

Ah, I hadn't made that link. The thread with the deeply moving and often heartbreaking personal stories from women about their life experiences. But it wasn't centering men so we got a scold.

Yes, there's a parallel thread on a certain subreddit right now.

Ooo do share some highlights

Yes, the use of 'subforum' in the OP does give possible visitor from Reddit vibes.

Can we please note that defending women’s rights is not “anti” trans.

It’s the idea that we should not indulge an individual’s body dysmorphia (or even the pretence of it, in the case of rapists who suddenly say they’re women) in law and public policy where it can harm girls and women.

IAmNotPrepared · 21/06/2025 08:47

You know what they say about equality feeling like oppression when you’re used to privilege...

The rules are applied to everyone. We get deleted and banned when we break them too. Rather than whinging that you’re being censored, perhaps consider how to make whatever point you want to make without breaching the Talk Rules. It really isn’t that hard.

You can't have an opinion on biological facts, OP. That's not an opinion it's nonsense.

Maaate · 21/06/2025 08:39

Trans supporters have got used to having a special protection when it comes to their views which is wrong.
I think you are struggling to cope with the grown up adult world where you are not being constantly protected from hurty feelings & not used to having your views challenged.

When you are used to having your own way all the time, any attempts to redress the balance will feel like censorship and oppression!

The site isn’t moderated equally. Mumsnet does have a position on stuff and moderates it accordingly. On the trans issues I would say it over moderated agaisnt those who were opposed to trans rights for a period of time, then it re-read the room and shifted the other way. I say that as somebody who barely gets involved in trans discussions and have never been moderated on them.

I have however had a post removed on a different matter where a small number of people were bullying the OP horribly; I called them out. My message was deleted (I swore at them, so me being deleted was fair enough as I had breached the guidelines). But they didn’t do anything to the bullying posts / posters at all. So I don’t think mumsnet always moderates fairly or accurately. If somebody reports a post mumsnet really should take a second to look at the wider context before responding, instead of look at the one post in total isolation.

You might find it helpful to read up more on this - your characterisation of people in this board as being ‘opposed to trans rights’ is wholly inaccurate and may have coloured your concept of fair moderation.

You may want to start with the basic facts:

No one can change sex
Sex is important in some situations like medicine, sport, jobs and facilities
‘Gender identity’ has no real and fixed definition and relies totally on stereotypes.
Trans people have the same rights as the rest of us - most of their common demands are privileges which impact negatively on others.

If someone starts a thread which breaks talk guidelines & attacks trans people in general then MN will remove it. The deletion message will state it is due to breaking talk guidelines.

I think the issue you have here is that the policy is being applied fairly (or as best they can depending on posts being reported) and Trans supporters have got used to having a special protection when it comes to their views which is wrong.

I think you are struggling to cope with the grown up adult world where you are not being constantly protected from hurty feelings & not used to having your views challenged.

It will be a good learning curve for you. I think you will mature alot from regularly engaging with this board - it's a very different experience to reddit.

I'm a bit torn on this one.

I occasionally post what some might (some frequently do) see as pro trans posts. I'm neither pro nor anti, I just don't like posts that appear to me to be bullying or taking the piss out of one group of people.

On the other hand I have never reported any of the so called attack posts that usually follow. And hope I never have to. I have one opinion, others have a different one. By reporting a post, i would be denying someone the right to their opinion. Despite the fact that those disagreeing with my view have told me to shut up, that I'm a narcissist (still wondering where that came from, but whatever) and that I should be ashamed of myself, I still feel those that post these things have a right to their opinion, as have i.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 21/06/2025 05:38

Nothing is pre-moderated here. Users register and post what they like. It's up to other users to report if they think rules have been broken. If the paid moderator on duty agrees, a post will be deleted. One reason would be if a previously banned poster tries to start posting again. The moderators have access to a lot more information than the rest of us which enables them to work that out.

I’m not sure you understand how this forum works.

Yep. We've had a few of those recently. Rushing in to scold an entire board without knowing how this forum works.

It might be an idea for the fingerwaggers to lurk a while and get a handle on stuff before making themselves look ridiculous.

But then, that's not the appeal for them. OP, you're just looking for a dopamine hit from telling women off - it's very clear.

MyAmpleSheep · 21/06/2025 00:42

I think the OP thinks this subforum is moderated by its own users, like Reddit is.

In fact Mumsnet is a commercial organization with a cadre of (I think) paid moderators who probably don't read the posts, until someone hits a "report" button.

So the deliberately goady thread title doesn't make a lot of sense.

Yes, the use of 'subforum' in the OP does give possible visitor from Reddit vibes.

FlirtsWithRhinos · 21/06/2025 01:41

OP, I see one of your threads that I posted on has been hidden since.

Sometimes threads that have raised concerns about the poster's intentions or where the conversation risks becoming a pile on will be hidden until the moderators have time to look at them properly and reassure themselves the poster is posting in good faith. If you are genuine (and assuming your thread has not ended up a pile on) it will get reinstated.

If I can offer advice though, you seem to have turned up today and started threads about a topic that's clearly close to your heart without taking any time to read through existing posts, find out what may have already been discussed.

I'm sure you can appreciate it is super annoying when someone turns up having clearly not even bothered to do a basic search and read some threads, maybe post on theads already in flight about their favourite topic, and instead just jumps straight in with the 79 millionth post exactly the same as 78,999,999 other posts, every one of which was patiently replied to.

So if you want to get a better experience maybe take the time to hang around, read some threads already running and see if your thoughts will add value there rather than stating new threads all the time.

At the very worst, you'll probably get some great cake recipes!

Try asking the administrators rather than the members?

There's an email address somewhere.

Helleofabore · 21/06/2025 01:25

I suggest you report one of your posts and ask MNHQ why you were deleted.

The mods are very professional and do not delete just because a post had an opposing opinion.
