Liberal as a meaning is difficult because a lot of people who call themselves liberal now are signed up to a list of set values - that's not liberalism. That's authoritarian virtue signalling.
Then you have economic liberalism, sexual liberalism. And various definitions.

Liberalism as in liberal democracy is essential a pragmatic consensus building which relies on debate and engagement with a broad section of the voting public. It is possible to have an issue which comes to a conservative consensus within a liberal democracy.

You need to nail down what people understand when they vote or your vote is meaningless because you don't know what you are quantifying.

I would call myself a believer in liberalism (as in liberal democracy) but absolutely not a liberal in the sense of how many members of the Democratic Party or the LDs might define this.

No. I'm in serious favour of one objective reality and of equality. Actual equality, involving everybody, including the ones you don't like and don't agree with, and who vote 'wrong'. And quite into child safeguarding, not abusing women and homosexuals, not removing women's pregnancy rights, stuff like that.

There is no box to tick on the poll for 'absolutely none of any of this shower'. I am politically homeless.

Can't vote as I'm not either of those options, I'm very left leaning. Sex is real, sometimes important and immutable. That can't change and isn't wrong.

I originally came to FWR because I was sure I was missing something. I read a lot and still thought somewhere, someone could make the TRA side make sense, and not be the misogynistic illogical position it seems to be.

I've barely seen a single person on the 'other side' who's willing to even try and explain their thinking, and the total lack of critical thinking and instant resort to insults and threats only reinforces that I'm right to think that sex is real and sometimes it matters.

The best take I can come up with is that 'society is sexist - even though we shouldn't treat men and women differently in normal life and make assumptions about them, people do, so I'd rather the assumptions they made about me were ones based on male/female stereotypes rather than the opposite. Therefore I will try and make people think I'm the opposite sex'.

Time was that everyone was proud to criticise gender and its boxes. Apparently now that's wrong.

How do you match up voting with views. How can you be certain you won't get an influx of people deliberately voting a certain way to try to portray mumsnet members as something they are not?

Political leaning aren't a single straight line spectrum. The opposite of Conservative isn't Liberal it's Socialist. The opposite of Liberal isn't Conservative it's Authoritarian. There are Authoritarian parties on both left and right (eg the Green party is quite Socialist but extremely Authoritarian)

What's weird is the way that that the Liberal Democrats are so illiberal on the topic of trans ideology - absolutely no deviation from required beliefs, really Authoritarian on that issue.
