I know I'm making a lot of threads but TRA ideology is so widespread that it makes me question if there's something I'm missing sometimes. I also added a poll. I understand viewpoints are more complicated than being X or Y, but it's just to get a rough idea of mumsnet mindsets. Thank you.

I don't think I am wrong in my view that people cannot change sex, it is a biological fact. If that makes me 'gender critical', so be it.
As for your poll, I am very centrist when it comes to politics, my views sometimes seep into both the camps you mention depending on the subject, so I can't vote as you have disregarded the massive middle ground where you will find the majority of people.

Yeah, sorry OP but I'm sick of playing this game

Quite

SexRealist · 18/06/2025 20:03

Sex realist. No doubts whatsoever. See my username (though I use a few).

Centrist. Used to be LD, then green. Would still be green if they hadn't gone insane. Now I have no idea. FPTP makes liberal/conservative polarity meaningless in the UK. Not done the poll as a result.

MissScarletInTheBallroom · 18/06/2025 19:10

No, I don't think I'm wrong about being gender critical.

Didn't vote in the poll because I don't think I fit in either box.

Same.

OP, lots of highly conservative people are highly trans-sceptical because they believe in sex-linked gender roles. This is the polar opposite of a feminist view, which would land on the more liberal side of things.

You're looking at it wrong.

PennyAnnLane · 18/06/2025 20:02

In neither a conservative nor a liberal, politically I’m somewhere in the middle.

I know humans can’t change sex, on principle I cannot lie and pretend someone is the opposite sex and that’s without going into how harmful the trans ideology is.

I also have a sneaking suspicion that for many men it’s a fetish, and I don’t want to be an unwitting participant in someone else’s sex game.

TheOtherRaven · 18/06/2025 20:00

No, I'm not doing the 'pick one' because this feels like an attempt (another one) at trying to force evidence that women who want rights are right wing and can therefore be regarded as subhuman.

I'd refuse to vote if those were my two options.

Delphin · 18/06/2025 19:58

"The voting options don’t really work so I haven’t voted"

I cannot see a poll. Where should it show up? (am using a tablet, tried 2 browsers)

myplace · 18/06/2025 19:54

I was a Liberal Democrat. Then a Green. Then labour. Now I’ve moved more towards Conservative but I think that’s partly the fault of what’s happened to the left.
I’ve not actually voted Conservative or Labour yet.

Buggers.

fabricstash · 18/06/2025 19:50

Almost everyone I have met are gender critical when you actually explain it clearly. The only exceptions are a few young people

NotMyRealAccount · 18/06/2025 19:49

I've never stopped asking myself if I could be wrong. When I've got people I've always seen as decent and intelligent saying "TWAW" and "it's not that simple" of course I'm going to wonder whether they're right and I'm missing something that is obvious to a lot of people. But I always end up coming back to the bare fact that sex is binary and immutable and gender ideology is full of bullshit.

Oh, and floating lapsed socialist.

StormyPotatoes · 18/06/2025 19:48

I have a question for you, OP. We had the resident TRA on a thread yesterday say that we should leave trans people alone and by that he meant (and I’m going to copy paste what he said):

Stop having opinions about trans people.

Stop talking about trans people.

Stop trying to force everyone to agree with your definition of particular words.

If you ever come across a trans person in the wild address them as they ask to be addressed (e.g. use their name) and let them get along with their business as you do with everyone else.

I’m really curious what you think about that, because to me telling someone not have an opinion, not to ever talk about an issue, accept someone to change definitions of words we know and address them contrary to what we believe is incredibly authoritarian (actually rather close to facism, wouldn’t you say).

What do you think about those set of views, OP?

This

TheAutumnCrow · 18/06/2025 19:47

Where’s the box for Revisionist Marxist? Primitive (Original) Communist?

Left of centre??

Absentmindedsmile · 18/06/2025 19:44

The voting options don’t really work so I haven’t voted. The left have gone so far left these days, that they’re on the right. None of it is easy or accurate to label anymore.

On the sex realist (more accurate wording than gender critical) question my answer is no. Categorically no. It’s not about being right or wrong. It’s about scientific fact. The scientific fact is that there are biological men and biological women. Both can present how they like. But neither can turn into the other. Ever.

Orangemintcream · 18/06/2025 19:44

MissScarletInTheBallroom · 18/06/2025 19:28

I spoiled my ballot paper.

So did I.

I do consider myself liberal…just a logical one.

Kinsters · 18/06/2025 19:43

I do feel bad about being gender critical sometimes. I would really like for everyone to be able to do as they please and be happy. But the world is just not like that and I can't in good conscience elevate men's desires over women's needs, even though it doesn't personally affect me.

Not sure where I fall politically. I would identify as liberal but not left leaning.

Theeyeballsinthesky · 18/06/2025 19:43

Do I ever feel wrong about being GC? Nope because I’m acquainted with reality

I can’t vote because liberal means what exactly? Communist? Socialist? Centre left? Liberal socially but conservative fiscally? I’ve no idea

DeanElderberry · 18/06/2025 19:41

No, I never feel wrong about rejecting the harmful, oppressive, and reductive stereotypes bundled together as 'gender', that are used to justify misogyny and homophobia.

When I do the 'political compass' test I come out in the left wing liberal quadrant.

ArabellaScott · 18/06/2025 19:39

'Do you ever feel wrong about being gender critical?'

No. Sex is immutable and dichotomous. For a few years, I did think that I must surely be missing some deep truth, but I've come to realise that the more one digs, the shallower the hole gets.

'Gender' is merely sex stereotypes. Long hair and pink for girls, etc. It's bullshit.

StormyPotatoes · 18/06/2025 19:39

Weren’t the communist party lambasted for being GC?

At any rate, it’s really funny you posted this as it’s a very similar conversation DP and I had last night. While he agrees with the view, he thinks being GC is a ‘right wing’ view. I argue that it’s not any ‘ side’ view, anymore than flat earther is any particularly wing. It’s just factual and should have no ‘side’ - I know sex is real in the same way I know gravity is real. I’m not wrong and don’t doubt myself.

In terms of views - I was actually very, very liberal (do whatever you want in a democratic society) as a teenager but I’m a lot more socialist with age.

Brefugee · 18/06/2025 19:38

I'm a communist. Where is my answer? Liberal and Conservative are rubbish categories.

Is this A-level homework?

BaronessEllarawrosaurus · 18/06/2025 19:38

Politically homeless as I'm liberal by nature but this shower of shit that goes by that name are not my brand of liberals.

Live and let live, dress however you want, date whoever you want but if you are male you will always be male and females need spaces away from biological males when appropriate. Females need accommodation and support in a world built around men. Women need to be acknowledged as different to men, different body frame, different medical needs etc. Different but not lesser than.

UnlockedXCX · 18/06/2025 19:37

EasternStandard · 18/06/2025 19:35

What does the poll refer to in this context? I’m not following the connection you’re looking for

I'm just curious how do people here see themselves in a political sense. Gun to your head if you had to pick a side, where do you think you fall in general (outside of gender related issues).

OP posts:
ArabellaScott · 18/06/2025 19:37

Are you US based, OP?

The UK doesn't really use the term 'liberal' so much in terms of political leanings.
