Hi all,

Just flagging this for any lesbian or bi women who’ve felt pushed out of Pride, or like something’s quietly disappeared.

We’re organising a lesbian and bisexual women-only march on Saturday 5th July in central London. It’s the same day as the main Pride event – but we’re not part of their route, and we’re not affiliated.

Time: 11.00 AM
Meeting point: Emmeline Pankhurst Statue, Victoria Tower Gardens South (by Parliament)
Route: Walk to Parliament Square for a few short speeches, then back to the park for a picnic (or a nearby pub if it rains)

No men. No brands. No pressure.
Just women. In public. Without compromise.

It’s fully self-funded. All permits, insurance, stewards and first aid are covered.

RSVP now
Click “Attend” – even if you’re only thinking of coming. It helps us plan and it shows other women that this space is real.
New faces always welcome.
Meetup

If you’re coming alone or feeling nervous, join our entry WhatsApp group – we’ll look after you:
chat.whatsapp.com/FCsLSOzgV4C2yUGplyQr5m
(This is our public group – open to everyone before vetting. The private WhatsApp spaces are strictly filtered. Only verified, registered women are added after screening. To move into those, register and complete sex verification here: thelcommunity.com)

If you want to understand the story behind why this is needed:

They didn’t make space for us. So we did.

You can have an event for people who share two or three or four characteristics of course. What you cannot do is have something where people only meet one of the two protected characteristics. So black AND disabled - fine. Black OR disabled - not fine.

Exactly this

A march for lesbians and bi-sexual women is open to lesbians, bi-sexual women and transmen who are attracted to females.

This is therefore trans inclusive. Just not male inclusive because sexual attraction of females to females is the point.

HTH.

Exactly this. It’s about same-sex attraction. Female to female. No male inclusion no debate. That’s the boundary.

Actually, I think if we’re talking about what the Equality Act allows here, the event could only be for lesbians or for bi women, but not both. Lesbians and bi women do not share the same protected characteristic in relation to sexual orientation.

They are both same sex attracted.

In theory anyone can join this lesbian & female bisexual march/picnic as there is no ticketing or verification of the participants. Participation just depends on normal polite societal norms i.e. you don't stick your nose in where you aren't welcome. Why would anyone who isn't a member of the invited groups want to attend when it's made clear that they aren't welcome? The Equality Act 2010 doesn't come into it.

I have said since the start I have no idea if the Equality Act is even relevant to this event, I was just responding to the pp who was talking about the fact that straight women are excluded from the event, who specifically said the Equality Act allows that.

LCommunity · 17/06/2025 09:52

BernardBlacksMolluscs · 16/06/2025 16:08

I’m not included because I’m a straight woman, and thus far have managed not to lose my shit and threaten to turn up and shout at some Lesbians and Bisexual women having a picnic.

Amazing. I think I’m going to be able to maintain this level of self control right up until after the event

hope you have a lot of fun. It’s great to see women out and proud and organising

Thank you. Exactly. No one’s angry about being excluded unless they feel entitled to override lesbian boundaries. We appreciate the support and respect.

Where on earth does the Equality Act or the Supreme Court judgement say that an event/service/facility/whatever can't be for two protected characteristics?

I thought that the judgement simply clarified that something described as 'women only' is in fact mixed sex if it admits transwomen; and therefore that if women were disadvantaged by the mixed-sex provision they could in principle make a claim under the act for discrimination on the grounds of sex.

Of course you can hold events for people who display at least two protected characteristics. For example, an event uniquely for older same-sex-attracted people homes in on two protected characteristics - age and sexuality; and an event for older same-sex-attracted Christians homes in on three - age, sexuality and belief. Neither of those is remotely controversial or illegal.

I am beginning to think that transwomen have FOMO, it's crazy, that they will protest about women. To all the people who are attending have fun, unfortunately as a straight woman I can't

Exactly. It’s baffling that anyone feels entitled to protest lesbians for existing. And thank you your support means a lot, even if this one’s not your space.

The point is that anyone can join the official march, including allies - it doesn’t exclude anyone

I'm excluded because I'm a straight woman but I think it's fantastic that lesbians and bisexual women have a chance to celebrate Pride away from straight people and away from men.

I'll share the event with my lesbian friends.

Thank you that support means a lot. That’s all this is: lesbians and bi women finally getting space to celebrate without men or pressure.

Why would anyone want to 'counter protest' women who are lesbians? That they won't sleep with men? That's pretty rapey. What vile sort of creature would even consider such a thing?

Exactly. Lesbians saying no to men isn’t “phobia” it’s just being lesbian. The fact some want to protest that says everything.

I imagine trans men are allowed Aida, but presumably they don’t count, for some inexplicable but not penis related reason.

It’s a same-sex space. Female biology is the boundary. That’s the core of lesbian orientation not “inexplicable”, just reality.

Males trying to stop or force their way into a female homosexual only event are homophobic.

The End.

Forcing lesbians to include males isn’t inclusion it’s coercion. This is why we need the march.

Is this a gender critical event is about as relevant asking is this a vegetarian event.

It’s a lesbian march. Same-sex attracted women gathering. No political label needed.

"what are you planning?"

Nothing. Just trying to establish if this event will be similar in nature to the KJK anti-trans hate rallies (as described by NZ media I believe).

If people are actually going to be using megaphones to screech hatred against trans people and anyone who supports them it would be (just a suggestion) more balanced if some LGBT supporters were there also to peacefully show there is also support for LGBT people. You know, free speech for everyone?

No you mean TRAs as anyone who supports LGB would have no problem with a lesbian only event.
By claiming that LGBT supporters would have an issue with or need to protest against a lesbian only event don't support LGB people.
Your mask has truly slipped now @Christinapple and any protest that you and your TRA friends set up will just prove it to the world.
Oh and it was the Australian minister who falsely claimed that LWS rally was pro nazi and then lost a defamation case over his false claims as LWS events have nothing to do with nazism. But if you'd also like to be crt ordered to publicly apologise to KJK please do keep wilfully lieing about LWS and falsely smearing them with claims of nazism

MagpiePi · 17/06/2025 09:39

MrsOvertonsWindow · 16/06/2025 16:59

It's been quite the display of dominance and power.
(paraphrasing)

"What - who's organising an event for women without my permission?"
"My question hasn't been answered"
"There'll need to be a counter protest if women are meeting without permission"
"Are male lesbians invited?"
" Then I'll organise a counter protest"

The complete inability to respect that women have the right to organise without male permission. Incapable of reading women's words without issuing threats. Counter protest ffs.

This behaviour is indicative of individuals spiralling out of control.

Not forgetting all the 'no LGB without the T' sentiments. Can they not see the hypocrisy?

...It's not about potatoes!

Good luck everyone, you clearly knew a bunch of entitled tossers would be planning on turning up and harassing* you so stay safe.

*because they always do

Exactly. The fact people feel the need to harass lesbians for organising is exactly why this march exists. We’ll stay safe and we’ll keep showing up.

This is a lesbian-led march for lesbians and bi women who want same-sex spaces without being told off for it. No one’s hassling anyone, we're simply organising something for ourselves, like everyone else does.

The comment was for our lovely misogynist Christinapple who absolutely is all about hassling women, lesbian, bi or straight.

If you’re going to argue that a) L and B are two separate characteristics, and b) that there are so many as not to meet the under representation requirement, your mind’s going to be blown when you hear about the other march - three separate characterises which include far more of the population! Better call the rozzers quick!

The point is that anyone can join the official march, including allies - it doesn’t exclude anyone

This is most pride thing to do, go and protest transphobia, read your history. I was gonna skip london but well, now I have a reason to come over and bring some friends along!

See you all there!

You’re free to attend Pride that’s what it’s there for. This march is for lesbians and bi women who want same-sex centred space. We just want peace, but you're making it hard. You don’t have to like it, but you don’t get to erase it.

@Namechangeforobviousreasons100

sorry, I think your interpretation is wrong

I assume you are seeing those definitions as exclusive, however that is not a correct reflection on life - someone who is Lesbian is likely to only ever be female to female attracted, where someone bisexual under that definition is generic (male or female) attracted to both sexes…

I can see therefore your argument that to include bisexual as a protected characteristic it should also include bisexual men - therefore this is not covered, but that is I think to misunderstand…

someone who is bisexual doesn’t have to be always attracted to both sexes, nor are they always attracted to both sexes in equal weighting, either way there is only one group of them who enjoy lesbian relationships - bi-sexual women…

so this has one protected characterisation which is that of lesbian:

  • born a woman
  • sexually attracted to women

and this includes lesbians with no attraction to anyone else, plus lesbians who have a bisexual element and are also attracted to men…

it can’t though include bisexual men as they have no lesbian attraction and never will

so one protected characteristic- lesbian

it really couldn’t be simpler!

Nothing you have said here relates to what the legislation actually says

Ah, thanks, I can see it’s s158. So if the Equality Act applies to this event, the organisers could argue that both cisgender lesbians and cisgender bi women are underrepresented at Pride (as two separate groups with two different protected characteristics) and it is proportionate to organise a separate event just for them. I don’t know if the evidence of underrepresentation is there to support that argument though.

If you’re going to argue that a) L and B are two separate characteristics, and b) that there are so many as not to meet the under representation requirement, your mind’s going to be blown when you hear about the other march - three separate characterises which include far more of the population!
