Simone Biles attacks Riley Gaines

Simone Biles has come out in defence of males in women's sports, and has attacked Riley Gaines for fighting against it. She said on Twitter:

"@RileyGaines
You’re truly sick, all of this campaigning because you lost a race. Straight up sore loser. You should be uplifting the trans community and perhaps finding a way to make sports inclusive OR creating a new avenue where trans feel safe in sports. Maybe a transgender category IN ALL sports!! But instead… You bully them… One things for sure is no one in sports is safe with you around!!!!!"

So, so disappointing. Both my daughters do gymnastics and are huge SB fans, so it is awful for her to show such contempt towards RG, who is fighting for a level playing field for women and girls in sport. And to suggest a separate category as if nobody has ever thought of that and tried it 🤦🏻‍♀️

Correct. Conservatism and religion centre men, arguably.

And so does gender identity theory and those who support it.

JessaWoo · 13/06/2025 13:23

That makes zero sense. She posted it.

She 'reposted' it.

And it was a link to the interview she did. Why should she not have reposted someone else's link to an interview that she did.

Did you even listen to what she said there? Please tell us what it is that she said in the clip she reposted that you disagree with.

Point it out please.

She is discussing competition equity and why that is not logical.

Or again, is it simply the fact that she is even talking that you wish to continue to denigrate her for?

TRAs and Simone Biles centre men.

The date stamp says that was posted on June 11th. Today is June 13th. One day ago was June 12th.

She reposted yesterday (my yesterday, anyway).

As does TRA activity, fundamentally

That's cool. I don't see women's rights sitting well with ideological platforms which centre biological males.

I’m not going to argue with you, but she has. This one was posted a day ago.

The thing is I appreciate Riley Gaines as a women’s rights campaigner. Her conservatism? Not so much, particularly when it marries with evangelical Christianity. I don’t see women’s rights sitting well on those ideological platforms.

So now she shouldn't be posting about other issues either, @JessaWoo ?

Yet you will do anything you can to undermine her efforts while not acknowledging that you are doing so. But that is what you are doing. These are based on the arguments that you have used on this thread.

A worthy woman seems to be:

one who chooses to take a large cut in earnings at the start of her career to cover the vital campaign to protect female sports categories.

will pay for all her accrued costs out of her own pocket unless she gets donations, and she cannot actively seek donations or provide any merchandise or content for those donations.

will take abuse and never discuss it publicly lest it might be seen as unkind to the abuser, or capitalising on unasked and unprovoked abuse from public figures, or just merely unkind, likely unwomanly.

will remain silent unless the media or campaign supporters who are perceived as having the exact credentials takes an interest in her campaign.

will always remember that she never gained Olympic medals and she was just a sore loser in 5th place.

will never mention any other issues that she is interested in.

Is on the speaker circuit and has her name with various agencies where she talks about … stuff not related to swimming.

will just absorb any abuse she receives and not respond publicly at all, not even mildly.

will never accept an interview on Fox to promote their campaign to as wide an audience as possible.

Not seen that, where?

But anyway, you were posting about dragging it out yesterday morning UK time when the Americans were still in bed, so you must have been referring to the stuff Riley did on Wednesday. The day after Simone's apology. This means you think acknowledging something one day after is dragging it out.

With that in mind, are you going to apply your silly one day standard to Simone's repost last weekend, or will it be different rules for her?

I’m quite aware thanks, and it certainly isn’t just a right wing phenomenon, whatever your bubble thinks.

I’m not sure you do, given your inaccurate description. And I didn’t describe it as merely a right-wing phenomenon, either.

JessaWoo · 13/06/2025 12:47

RomanCavalryChoir · 13/06/2025 11:43

Interestingly, Riley hasn't posted anything on TwiX about Simonegate since 11th June. That's the day after Simone's apology, which came on Tuesday the 10th. Nothing about it on her Instagram either. I don't have TikTok or any of the other social media channels people in their 20s seem to go for, perhaps anyone who does could clarify?

Also @JessaWoo since apparently you think referring to something the day after it happened amounts to dragging it out, presumably you also agree Simone was dragging the matter out when she reposted her initial attack on Riley the day after?

She posted yesterday.

People often do that with their X bios - I think Obama's is something like "husband, dad, president" - so I don't read anything ideological into it.

But there is a thing with African-American women, who vote Democrat by margins that even Putin would think ridiculous, but who often hold views at odds with the party's metro-trendy elites.

I think it's somewhat different when a man does it. Obama will have faced prejudice on account of his race but he won't have had to contend with the effects of millennia of sex-based oppression.

Simone can do whatever she likes but I personally wish history's most decorated gymnast had made a different choice (particularly in view of her apparently other male-centric views).

Arran2024 · 13/06/2025 12:11

Btw Biles' X account describes herself as "Wife. Olympic Champion". I personally find that incredibly wierd - it is giving off American trad wife vibes. I am not sure that Biles won't turn out to be conservative in some respects too.

I think it's perfectly in keeping with her apparent wish to centre males in sport. And not just for HER to centre them, but the expectation that Riley (and presumably other women) should do likewise.

Riley is politically Conservative but she is here for women, and (unfortunately) increasingly the only way pro-women advocates can get a hearing these days is through right-wing channels. I wish the left hadn't thrown women and girls under a bus, but that seems to be the way the dice has rolled these days and we have to work with what we have. Hence why Julie Bindell will speak to the Daily Mail.

RomanCavalryChoir · 13/06/2025 12:06

Yes, does anyone seriously think Simone's publicity people weren't inundated with interview requests over this?! Both she and Riley are identical in that they made the most sensible decision about interviews. The only difference is that Riley is better off going on, Simone isn't.

Arran2024 · 13/06/2025 12:04

JessaWoo · 13/06/2025 09:37

In reply to “Fox would have loved to have her on” - it’s relevant. She’s on there all the time as she’s a regular contributor.

"Fox would have loved to have her on" referred to Biles. Yes, I know Fox regularly features Riley Gaines, but they would have been trying to book Biles - she is after all the GOAT and people are interested in her views on men in women's sports.

They would have given her an opportunity to explain what she meant, what she thought the solution might be, why she thought Riley should be the one to campaign for a solution, why she body shamed her. Any news outlet would have been desperate to hear from her.

You can't blame Riley Gaines for taking full advantage of the media opportunities available to her while letting Biles off the hook.

Perhaps you should look into engagement farming. It is far more than simply “someone on social media speaking about an issue”.

I’m quite aware thanks, and it certainly isn’t just a right wing phenomenon, whatever your bubble thinks.
