Not sure how to feel about this. I don't agree with someone taking the flags down but is it really a hate crime?

You're the one who can't even define the groups it is supposed to be a hate crime against

Exactly. If you can't define a group, how can you define hate? Or even that it was hate against a group that cannot even be defined?

That word salad just gave me a migraine.

I think it’s just a general inability to understand that definitions, by their very nature, exclude all the things they aren’t.

So why has there been a thread started on FWR dedicated to minimising a homophobic hate crime?

There is no evidence this is even a crime, let alone a homophobic hate crime. We don't know if it was a drunken dare, or what the motive even was.

CassOle · 01/06/2025 12:58

Third said that '... to be a hate crime it has to be a crime first...'

This is correct as per the CPS link I posted.

I haven’t seen any posts mimimising the removal of the flags. But the discussion has moved on somewhat to posters talking about how the LGB community, especially lesbians, feel that it’s all about the T now and they should accept lady dick or they’re called sexual racists.

Wish some people would get their head out their arses and look at the bigger picture.

No. The OP was asking it it was a hate crime. See below and please take careful note of the question marks. Asking if something counts as a hate crime or not is not the same as minimising. If the crime fulfils the criteria of a hate crime (as per the law) then it can be prosecuted as one. If it does not fulfil the criteria, then it isn't one. Please see this link: https://www.cps.gov.uk/crime-info/hate-crime

If it turns out they were lesbian flags torn down by trans campaigners, will suggestions still agree it's a homophobic hate crime?

There is currently no hate crime category against women, but to be a hate crime it has to be a crime first - suggestions do you agree that tearing down feminist flags is a crime that should be investigated and prosecuted?

This case in Arran may or may not be anything to do with the perpetrator's political persuasions and the particular colours of the flags. We'll see. Both of the above however have taken place on multiple well documented occasions. Would be good to know we have your support suggestions.

Men are men.
Women are women.
No-one on this board enacts hate, prejudice or discrimination.
We just want our own spaces and services.

Hope that’s nice and clear.

If your particular group are happy to have their legal definition and protections removed then I’m sure you’d be very welcome at Prude. Some Pride organisations have explicitly stated they wish to exclude ‘LGB views’.

It started several years ago with a man who identifies as a woman Munroe Bergdorf having a group of lesbians wearing ‘pussy’ hats removed because it was ‘exclusionary’ to ‘lesbians’ with a penis. Many gay men and lesbians have since been physically attacked or excluded from Pride by trans activists.

Why would you support a group that does that?

This Bergdorf.....

(Edited to add for the terminally dim, this is stuff he's said to lesbians)

Then you are beyond delusional and deeply, deeply in denial. It is solely the trans ideology that is fuelling a re-emergence of homophobia, and in a much more malignant, virulent and dangerous form.

I have lesbian friends who say they feel physically sick at the sight of the progress pride flag

Ok let me rephrase that to "You are obsessed with policing identity and I am not, as it's clear that hate, prejudice and discrimination is enacted irrespective of precise definitions that no one will ever agree on anyway."

If you're talking about transing the gay away then aren't those men attracted to other men, not women? So not calling themselves lesbians.

Young women who are attracted to other women (lesbians), being told that this must mean they are men
Young men who are attracted to other men (gay men), being told that this must mean they are women

NotBadConsidering · 01/06/2025 12:26

Homophobia and transphobia are interconnected and stem from the same root. They arise from authoritarian attitudes that believe in rigid gender binaries and actions taken to try to enforce that on others.

Given people who are sex realist and GC don’t believe in rigid gender binaries, by your words, it’s not us who are homophobic and transphobic. It’s not us saying gender binaries make someone a woman, it’s not us saying gender binaries make someone a woman and therefore a lesbian, it’s you. Your rigid gender binaries, and men meeting them, are what defines women and lesbians according to you. The rest of us deal with the reality of sex and same sex attraction.

You, and others, are engaged in a process of encouraging vulnerable minorities to turn against each other. We know this, we're not stupid, we have read the 'divide and conquer' tactics, we know the fraudulent narratives that you spin and regurgitate on boards like this, and we stand united against the hate.

You can’t even define the minorities you seek to represent or defend. To you, “minorities” includes heterosexual men. Your fraudulent narrative is that you claim to care about anyone other than the rights of these men.

How can you define hate if you refuse to define the group that the hate is aimed towards?

Sexual orientation is not an identity.

Young men in Iran don’t get thrown off tall buildings because of their ‘identity’.

Sexual orientation is a fact not an ‘identity’ and it utterly homophobic to argue otherwise.

moggly · 01/06/2025 12:17

These are the activists who think that a male literally becomes female because he grew a pair of moobs. Having a healthy relationship with reality isn't their forte.

FlakyCritic · 01/06/2025 12:13

Maddy70 · 01/06/2025 09:47

That is not an example of a gender critical feminist saying lesbians shouldn't use female spaces.

It's about where one was confused for a male, in this highly charged atmosphere where females are understandably, on HIGH ALERT for women in our spaces. It says nothing at all about lesbians.

You're not even trying.

Consider this:

I refuse to fall for a trap set by someone who mistakenly believes that definitions comprised of inherently finite and limited language can ever encapsulate the complexity of lived lives.

Then consider this:

I am a female born lesbian.

Then consider what the truth might be.

Yes, how are we to know when words are being used in the normal meaning or the Humpty Dumpty 'whatever I mean them to mean' way?

It renders all of Suggestions posts meaningless, as we cannot trust a single word. Who knows if 'I' even refers to Suggestions themself or someone else.

Don't be ridiculous.

Are you saying that homophobia never existed before the 'trans cult', as you put it? I can assure you it absolutely did, in much stronger and pervasive forms.

Mainstream awareness and acceptance of trans issues correlates with increasingly positive attitudes to gay people as well.

We know exactly who is fuelling hostility towards us, and it's not trans people.

Then you are beyond delusional and deeply, deeply in denial. It is solely the trans ideology that is fuelling a re-emergence of homophobia, and in a much more malignant, virulent and dangerous form.
