Not sure how to feel about this. I don't agree with someone taking the flags down but is it really a hate crime?

Really obnoxious behaviour.
Including the fly tipping flags on the beach.

Lesbian and Gay people deserve better than to have their march sabotaged.

Suffragette flags, Adult Human Female banners, Palestine Flags, Star of David, and the Tufty Club. No one has the right to ban anyone else’s flag.

Tbh I would happily ban every flag. Bloody tribalism.

I think the general Mumsnet reader has grasped this puzzle already, and sees these posts for exactly what they are.

Yes they have. They see your homophobia plain as day. In your world men can be lesbians. Men can be in lesbian WhatsApp groups. Refusing to agree that men can be lesbians is transphobia to you.

Absolutely the general Mumsnet reader grasps this puzzle. I just think it’s fun to repeatedly remind you of the homophobic hypocritical ideology you support.

suggestionsplease1 · 31/05/2025 22:29

NotBadConsidering · 31/05/2025 22:26

Well that doesn’t make sense being a one way street, because your homophobia seems to exempt you from transphobia, and one of the perceived actions of transphobia is to be not homophobic.

You’re saying refusing to be homophobic is transphobic, but if you’re homophobic that makes you transphobic too? So that makes you transphobic, doesn’t it?

I think we are going to need those definitions of lesbian, gay, and homophobia to make sense of this puzzle.

This is a deeply depressing thread.
Homophobia is alive and well here.

They don't, though, do they?

Given all the unsolved violent crimes, flags shouldn't just be low down on the list of priorities, they shouldn't make it onto the list at all.

Exactly,

Musclewoman · 31/05/2025 22:20

Christ alive it's so exhausting....its been exhausting since 2020.....

When will this weird woke competitive nightmare ever end?

I am openly bisexual and had a lot of lesbian relationships.

I would remive every pride flag if i could. I hate that rainbow BS.

Hang on, were you anywhere near Arran last night? Can you account for your whereabouts between the hours of 02:00 and 07:00?

FWR is populated by many who make wild and untrue statements that gay people don't support Pride or the rainbow flag etc, that is of course because there is an agenda at work here.

None of this is true on the ground, in our communities.

You can often identify this happening - the person making statements will get confused through their post...firstly claiming an identity as LGB and later saying 'they this/they that' a grammatical slip highlighting they are not in fact an LGB person. They will also eg. refer to 'homosexuals' which no gay person would be happy to do.

Are you aware that lesbian women have been kicked out of Pride events for asserting their sexual orientation?

suggestionsplease1 · 31/05/2025 21:45

We exist, despite many people wishing that we never did.

We refuse to have our own identities used as a stick to beat ourselves with.

We make space for complexity without haranguing other people for their stated identities.

Is that the ‘royal we’?

I’m sure you’d like to speak for all lesbians and gay men but it’s very clear that you don’t.

We refuse to have our own identities used as a stick to beat ourselves with.

How is accepting a sex based definition of lesbian a stick to beat yourself with? Either you are a lesbian (women exclusively attracted to other women - no penises involved) or not?

Having a settled definition that has enabled protection of rights and against discrimination is not ‘haranguing other people for their stated identities‘.

Are you against legal protection for gay rights?

moggly · 31/05/2025 22:12

What type of flag design were they? The old-school rainbow one, or the new-fangled regressive one?

Do the police in Scotland ever investigate real crimes?

REAL as in hurty feelz? That's all they do!

I refuse to fall for a trap set by someone who mistakenly believes that definitions comprised of inherently finite and limited language can ever encapsulate the complexity of lived lives.

This is one of my favourite ripostes in a long time. A deliciously mind-bending paradox inviting the total collapse of language itself. Unintentionally gorgeous.

Books? Inherently finite and limited language that can never encapsulate the complexity of the published work.

Cats? Inherently finite and limited language that can never encapsulate the complexity of feline existence.

Definition? Inherently finite and limited language that can never encapsulate the complex relationship between signifier and signified.

Human? Totally inadequate as a descriptor in the light of the above. Better not even try.

And, despairing, language itself fades and dies...

Butler would be proud. Sapir-Whorf make a good point.

suggestionsplease1 · 31/05/2025 21:27

My recollection is the collection extended beyond that definition.

Is the next step then collating lesbian sex crimes so that we are not permitted in single sex spaces? There are some people after all that would like to see that happen.

Just quoting this a second time because I don't want it to get lost.

Can you explain why you think objecting to trans women (male people) in a female only space leads to objecting to lesbians (female people) in a female only space?

Not that many on mumsnet as far as I recall.

You were listing hateful behaviour seen on here specifically - please do give specific examples of hateful stuff.

please do try to look past what you’ve been told and really look at what people are saying.

Notmycircusnotmyotter · 31/05/2025 21:50

This is not a hate crime FFS.

also amused that there's a Palestinian flag flying. Morons.

NotBadConsidering · 31/05/2025 21:50

Lesbian WhatsApp groups with men in them. Par for the course in gender land. Persistent, daily homophobia.

Honestly you're not that important or in the minds of others as youd like to think!.
The general population just don't want blokes as in male bodied, XY gened people in female loos/changing,.that's it!

Serencwtch · 31/05/2025 21:45

Yes it's most likely a hate crime. It would depend on the motivation.

Yes. You appear to be denying that lesbians and gay men exist as a defined (therefore protected) entity. That would be homophobic.

I am in several WhatsApp lesbian groups based in Scotland, and understandably there is a lot of dismay about what has happened in Arran tonight.

Female lesbians?
Honestly cannot think of any other group other than TRA as stunningly exhibited here by suggestions who clearly want the right to determine how others think amd speak!
